Hi Guys, I'm New! Just A Couple Of Questions
Esky the husky replied to bigbadwolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good luck, it may seem overwhelming, but the joy you get from you pup will make up for everything. Have you had a look at the breed sub forums, just up the top of where you posted this? Ask some questions of the people in there, there is a lot of collective knowledge. A few experienced people could be able to tell you more about the breeder, or suggest one that may be better suited :) -
Feeding Breakfast Before A Trial
Esky the husky replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I usually give Esky some baited water before a run. Either baited with a tiny bit of chicken stock or a tin of sardines in water. Depending on what time we're running she might get a meal of 'husky soup' before hand. But if she's still sleeping when we leave home she does not. Post run she gets husky soup about an hour or 2 after. The day before a run I'll feed her a little more than usual to make sure she has the energy stores for a run. -

Boarding Kennel V's In Home Care
Esky the husky replied to Colliewood's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd say kennels for me (although we've had very bad experiences) I've done at home care too when we had no other choice. She was fine too, but kennels just seem a little safer. -
tdierikx that is so sad

Breed Misidentification
Esky the husky replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG those puppies. Can I steal the last boy :p -
What energy  In all honesty she's an easy keeper, she likes to relax inside with us. Indoors we keep her busy with frozen treats or food toys, ( like kibble balls) When we're out the door it's a different story, she loves walk times. Depending on how busy we are we do a combination of walking, walking + running (interval training for me ), walking with backpack on, free running at the park, running next to the bike or pulling the scooter. I'm in the process now of buying a treadmill, and considering a few other activities, but I don't do them yet. Most winter weekends we're busy with sled dog club activities. Even when we're not racing there is a group of people I meet up with to train every weekend. That said she'd survive on one walk a day and some training, but I'm a very competitive person and I want us to do well this racing season :) Anything else you want to know about the breed, come ask in the sibe thread under 'breed sub forums ' :D Disclaimer: Your experience may vary :p

Breed Misidentification
Esky the husky replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks to Esky's long coat I often get asked if she's a samoyed cross. At races last I was even asked if she was a belgian shepherd crossed with a rough collie. Uh, never mind the fact her face would be a lot lot lot different. This was coming from husky owners too Esky and I will be at an exhibition on Saturday, gotta get my game face prepared  -
The only reason I'm glad I went to puppy class was that Esky now LOVES visits to the vets.

I think giving the dog a chance to do his job, or a modified version is high on my list. Mainatining a healthy weight and feeding species appropriate food.

Lappiemum is he related to any of the other herding instincts dogs in Aus?

Where Do You Leave Your Dog When You Are At Work
Esky the husky replied to pomchi's topic in General Dog Discussion
As long as she's got things to do I think that sounds like a good sized space :) -
 That's almost an ad campaign

I was followed around at the park the other day by this dog. He was so insistent, jumping on me, following me round, doing every trick. I refused to feed him, and his owner came and took him away. Repeat 5 times. I was sitting on the ground he managed to come up to me and chomp straight through the bag of treats I had, ate some of the plastic and all of the treats in one go!

Making The Jump From One Dog To Two
Esky the husky replied to minxy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got so excited reading the title and seeing who started this thread. I hope it works out for you Minxy I'm in such a perfect position to ad to my pack at the moment to, but I'm sure your story will have a happier ending  -
And where are the pictures :)

When we first rented in NSW we didn't own a pet. We just mentioned when we signed the lease that we were going to ad one in the future and they were fine with it. Not sure how I'd approach it now ?
-
I really didn't like that magazine anyway. I used to buy dog show scene and dog news australia, but it was mainly for the pretty ads Now I just buy dog books, dvds, toys etc instead
-
That's quite a good price really :) How often do you have to empty them out? Do they do well over multiple surfaces? - we have 1 carpeted room and the rest either tile or floorboard.
-
That was amazing! The backflip as well. Mind blown!
