  1. What about salt spray? I know, I know, I should have had a filter on.......
  2. But on a serious note what do you use to clean your glass?
  3. Oh no ST, does that mean Quail treats for the dogs ;) Hope you get power back soon. We are ok but it was quite wild, some cool waves down on the beach! That is brilliant news MG :D Hope Tango is ok emery, poor puddy tat Daisy is booked in for friday arvo for her heart ultrasound, so we'll know more then.....
  4. You can hook the 7D up to the pc I believe, but I use a CF reader, so much easier :) I have one 16GB and one 8GB and find that is plenty for what I do. I shoot in RAW too and the 16GB gives me close to 600 shots - bear in mind that you can get different speed cards as well, eg faster write speeds if you plan on doing action shots with lots of continuous shooting. The 50mm is an excellent lens, but I have to admit since getting the 17-70, the 50mm hasn't been on the camera so much. I purchased my body from dwi and most lenses from B&H (except sigmas). I took the 'risk' of buying a grey import as the price was so much cheaper at the time. I had a malfunctioning AF on my Tamron zoom, but B&H made it so easy to get a replacement that it was no problem :)
  5. This is a link to my Flickr 'lens collection' sets with virtually all photos taken on my 7D http://www.flickr.com/photos/56265770@N02/collections/72157626519955153/ For portrait stuff I use the Canon 50mm 1.4 and the Sigma 17-70mm which is a fantastic lens. I have recently upgraded my zoom from the Tamron 70-300mm (which was great as a first zoom, with stabilization) to the Sigma 2.8 70-200mm. For macro stuff I have the Tamron 2.0 60mm which I just love! So if you have a browse you'll see a range of subjects both stationary and action, and I can't fault the 7D at all for what I use it for. POTN will have loads of images from photographers far more competent than me if you want to see what the camera can really do! Good luck deciding :D eta - I don't do much in poor light, but I was pleased at how well this came out at iso 1600, exposure 1/250 no flash -
  6. Not the hugest fan of HDR I'm afraid, and the first thing I noticed was the halo round the trees and the giant apple (?). It's an interesting subject though, and I'd like to see perhaps a closer shot of the right hand side of the shop :) You did say super critical
  7. Awww lovely to see some Abbey photos again, great captures df :D
  8. OMG that is one teeny tiny pony, you could almost scoop him up in your arms How old is he?
  9. Thanks guys :) The vet seemed to think it was unlikely, but she was on beta blockers as she had a stupidly high heart rate during the choc episode. She's never shown any signs before that and used to run for miles with no problems back home. We'd mostly put her panting down to the heat, but she is also sleeping a lot at home Also Happy Birthday Pippa
  10. Oh Annie, so sorry to read this RIP Cowboy, you were such a gorgeous boy and will be well remembered through lots of loving photos
  11. Have a fun trip AP and Mirawee :D All the best to those with limping dogs and glad you are getting somewhere with a diagnosis RosieFT :) Another one to add to the poorly list - went to the vet with Daisy due to suspected anal gland issues and have come away with a grade 3 heart murmur diagnosis She had her anal glands emptied a couple of weeks ago, but in the last week she has really been itching her bum and scooting again. So I took her back tonight for a follow up, but the glands are empty and worms and fleas ruled out so possible an allergy. They had some minced chicken recently so it may be that, but the rest of her skin is fine but she has a really irritated bum. So pred was suggested to get the itching under control quickly and I casually asked if there were any problems with pred if she had any heart issues. Ever since the choc poisoning incident we have noticed she gets out of breath quicker, and we have sometimes wondered if there was any long term damage to her heart. So turns out that yes she has a murmur - how bad do I feel for not getting it checked sooner Next step ultrasound at PEV to see how far along it is.......poor Daisy. Off to google about heart murmurs and scare myself!
  12. What a great thread full of happy pics, I think I missed it first time around! This was the pack back in the UK, a very rare shot of them all in the same frame :) The reduced pack in Oz :)
  13. lol, not the most reassuring response  I got my 7D as an upgrade to my 350D for the increased iso capabilities and the AF system amongst other things. I've never regretted it :) I'm not so familiar with the Nikon range - it the D7000 in a similar range to the Canon xxxD series?
  14. 'Mischief face' is priceless  She is just gorgeous - thanks for the photos and I look forward to lots more as she grows :D
  15. Apologies Elise, the first part of my reply above sounded really condescending I'm just crap at wording things sometimes! I like #6 the best, they mossy steps make it look like it's leading off to a secret woodland dell, lovely photo :)
  16. Way to go Gibbs It must be such a relief for you MG :D
  17. I know, I'm only stirring things up a bit My dad and brother are both Nikon users, so I guess you're not all bad
  18. RS - I meant to say congrats to Ruby and what a cute pic of her, but you distracted me with puppy pics  So congratulations Ruby :D Yup pm zayda_asher or Kathy's website is http://kathysdogtraining.com.au/ Congrats AP and hope you have a fun trip :D
  19. Nothing wrong with those in terms of snaps to remember a trip by, but with a DSLR you will find a whole new world of photography opening up to you :) If you haven't already, have a look at POTN - there is so much advice, reviews and loads of photos to inspire and encourage you :) http://photography-on-the.net/forum/index.php
  20. The second featherstar and the perch shot are fantastic Looking forward to your underwater holiday shots - have a great time :D
  21. I guess having huge white lenses has a lot to do with getting noticed, but at this particular event they were all Canon. A lot of them probably had the 1D rather than the 5D though. ;) The 5D II is renowned for its below average auto focus system. This has been addressed in the 5D III hasn't it? and whilst not full frame, the AF on the 7D kicks ass :D
  22. Just a heads up for those in the market for an editing pc..... I've been thinking for a while about upgrading my 15" laptop for something more powerful and with a larger screen for editing. I have been very tempted by an iMac, but I've been holding out as there are a lot of rumors about a new model due very soon, however Dell have just brought out a new all-in-one 27" beauty :D http://reviews.cnet.co.uk/desktops/dell-xps-one-27-review-50008122/ It's got great specifications, a real nice 2560 x 1440 pixels screen and is $1000 less than a similarly spec'd iMac! Yes I know it runs Windows, but I haven't had any trouble in 2 years from my Win 7 laptop :) http://www.dell.com/au/p/xps-one-27-2710-aio/pd Very tempting :D
  23. Totally cute, love the second one
