  1. Take it back, food aggression is not uncommon but needs to be managed very carefully. What happens if down the track a bit of food is dropped near your child? you cannot in all honesty police this with a small child, don't risk it. I have had food aggro dogs before and its hard work, i nearly got bitten myself once when i gave her a bone walked to washing line , came to go back inside, had bare feet so she didn't hear me come close as i went to go back in the house and she turned and almost got me, big lesson learnt! you cannot drop your guard ever.
  2. i wish i was near you, always wanted one and can't afford the hefty price tag!
  3. I don’t understand why you think you will be ridiculed here . There are lots of good people here who will help and advise you . Your friend has done nothing wrong and can sell the pups as pets easily I would think depending on the breed and how common they are . The pups just needs vaccinations and chips . You don’t need papers to sell them unless you are after more money for them .
  4. He’s probably from a pet shop or backyard breeder , they are hardly going to care now they have their money . Contact Powerlegs, or Denise at Paws . Your hours are too long to leave a pup in an apartment all day . He will bake in summer unless you leave the aircon on for him too .
  5. i see Costco is now selling raw patties, made by big dog but cheaper.
  6. Steve from K9 Pro is in Sydney, Richmond way. He isn't cheap and you have to wait to get an appointment, but he is the only one i would go to.
  7. You could try a martingale ? I walk one of mine on a slip lead , the other on a prong .
  8. Ok , I only asked , no need to be so condescending.
  9. Without seeing it it’s hard to say . Has he been regularly flea treated ? It could be an allergy to food you are feeding , some dogs react to grains , others red meat . could be something at home he is allergic too . I have had dogs with both and I always bathed in Malasab and my current dog I give an antihistamine too when she starts licking her feet . Human ones can be given to dogs but you need to google the ones you can use and dosage . I give mine Claratyne . ( generic one is cheaper). You really should just go to vet for a consult , they will probably give steroids to start with .
  10. It may not be the food , just that you transitioned too fast . Can you take it back for a refund ? A lot of manufacturers will refund if dogs don’t like it , we do at my work as long as you have the receipt.
  11. i just came back in to look again, will miss him dearly.
  12. Heelers are bred to nip, they are also not always tolerant of other dogs and can be wary of people too. Mine took alot of work when he was young. Keep him away from dog parks until you get a trainer who knows the breed . I'm rather concerned when you say he " submitted" to you after, please tell me you don't alpha roll. You have a breed bred to work , do do a particular job and you are expecting it to behave like a breed that goes to the dog park and loves everyone, not going to happen.
  13. Yep , agree , I had a cattle dog and he didn’t wish to speak to every human or other dogs on walks . He stayed by my side and looked to me for direction which it sounds like yours did . Dont worry about upsetting people , just say no he isn’t fond of being patted and keep moving .
  14. So sorry you lost him. I would say he was a typical Bull Arab , i have fostered a few and when they don't make the grade as hunters they are the most loveable adorable dogs. They can be a mix of Dane, Pointer, Greyhound/Wolfhound, Bull Terrier, and sometimes other breeds.
  15. Do you mean you want to buy a purebred Lab or Goldie? There are breeders listed on the breed pages selling pups. If you want a rescue dog, look at breed rescue. You won't get a purebred in either breed as a pup in rescue , they will be older dogs looking for homes.
  16. How often does he go for a walk ? Is he crate trained ?
  17. We get alot of oodles round here, some are ok, many are hyper nut jobs , its the luck of the draw., some shed hair, some don't. I do get why people like them. We had a standard poodle come into work this week and i must admit i was rather smitten, calm solid dog,
  18. Your making the going outside part way too much fun and exciting to think of weeing. Take her out after she wakes up, not before she goes to sleep, unless its last thing at night. Go outside and just ignore her, walk her around, patience i the key.
  19. Go rant elsewhere where people don’t care about their dogs like we do . You killed your dog and within hours were asking for another one , you don’t belong with real dog lovers .
  20. He was a gun dog , they chase , everything in its path would have been irrelevant. What a shame for him you didn’t protect him . Loose dog , rabbits , train line , inevitable. Hopwfully you can learn from it now .
  21. My advice is get Cosmolo to train the the dog, she knows her stuff ! Meds vary and it can take time to find the right one.
  22. I agree about going straight to a specialist , why pay for a consult , ultrasound etc when there is a fair chance the specialist will do it all again anyway .
  23. It can really do your head in reading about what is good and what isn't. I did alot of research years ago when my dally started to form stones, and i had a bully with skin problems. I have fed raw and just kibble, and tbh its what the dog does best on. I currently feed one on Costco food ( which is made by a premuim company for a third of the price), and one on Supercoat weight management. I do chuck in sardines, yogurt and eggs randomly too. Try not to overthink it, keeping the weight off a lab is priority.
