I left my little BC girl with the breeder until she was 12 weeks old for the very same reason. We were having work done & also has a 2 week vacation already paid for as well. It just isn't worth the risk IMO. With all the unsettled behaviour that will be occuring in her new forever home ,tradies etc etc. It was a very hard choice to make as I had visited her at 8 weeks, then had to leave my baby girl behind but I knew she was in very capable hands. Good luck with your new baby girl what ever you decide. Love to see some pic's :)

Hi everyone, Was just wondering if it is safe to use human kelp capsules for my Border Collie. And if so how many caps/grams daily. Have heard you can over dose them & it can be dangerous???? So thought I'd better ask just in case. Thanks in advance for you help :)

WTH..... Good on you for having your say. Unbelievable.....

Stella has one heavy ear. It is just flat. Her other one is perfect. Her dad has the exact same flat ear on the same side. I thought it may correct itself as it started when she was 4.5 months as well but it didn't. So pricked ears are the big 'no no' then. Sonny's go a bit pricked at times but usually they are almost correct. They seem to have gone slightly pricked at times after he turned about 4ish. Gee they are very strict with their likes /dislikes in the show ring then. I would love to get into it maybe one day so all this sort of thing interest me. Thanks for sharing :) Scarlet sounds very pretty....

Munch, great name :) ... So they loose points for ears not quite correct? Suppose it would depend on the judge wouldn't it.

Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

Oh thanks for your kind thoughts maddogdodge. Sounds like Koda is making great improvements Well done. Both of mine are more reactive to other dogs when on lead at times. Saying that it depends on what type of dog is approaching. They have both improved lots regarding this which is great. We have a house full of visitors atm aged between 10 months to 11 years old & their very loudly spoken/shouty mum, my step daughter. Our house is usually nice & quiet, just Mr BCC & myself. Poor Stella being so noise phobic doesn't know what to do though I must say she is coping extremely well. I am keeping her well away from them & fully supervising the situation. These kids aren't dog lovers either which doesn't help. Sonny is fine with them. He just doesn't understand why they don't want to play games or pat him which is very sad IMHO. But we are on day 5 of a 8 day stay & counting..... I don't do tanti throwing kids. Give me dogs any day. Even ones with issues :p -
O M G! Calendula Tea Rinse
BC Crazy replied to RiverStar-Aura's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm going to try & bath my male BC with this then as his coat has gone off of late. I think I have washed him too much & stripped the natural oils out of it to be honest I even found a small amount of dandruff near the top of his tail. Stupid me.... -
All these horror stories about dogs being left in cars or tied out in direct sun & dying of heat exposure. I can't even begin to imagine the suffering these poor things must go through in there epic struggle to survive. Just horrifies & deeply saddens me thinking about it..... Not to mention poor children that suffer the same torture. These owners/parents need to held very accountable & punished for such a total lack of care. It's truly despicable

Oh no Sammyelle... Ever so sorry. Such truly heartbreaking news Makes me wonder at times life can be so darn cruel. She will never be gone as she will be always etched in your memory & she will always be in your heart forever. Take care & thoughts are with you at this extremely difficult.

Oh thanks ness :) I thought it may have been the case. Stella has one flat ear & the other is perfect. Not that it matters as she is no show pony  Maybe I should have done something with it when she was little to help it sit in the perfect envelope shape her other one is. I didn't know BC folks did correctional ear work, just thought it was more for the likes of GSD's etc.
-
Mystiqview, at the risk of souding like a total dope may I ask exactly what tipping a bc's ears is ? Does it stop them from going pointy or something? I have only ever seen a GSD puppy with it's ears tapped before.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Me either :)

No I don't leave them on unsupervised. I don't put them on my girl if it is too hot either. She is not suppose to get overly hot for health reasons.

I feel exactly the same Aussie3.

Oh my Frankie is extremely cute !!! Sorry I don't have any advice for you really apart from crating her near your bed. My male BC screamed the place down for the first 3 weeks, every night I had never had a pup carry on like him. I would tend to him with very little fussing over him, just calm him down. Then one night he just stopped, just like that & to this day he never makes a sound all night. Welcome , Congrats & enjoy your new Frankie :)

Isn't it the best feeling raineth to have a "win" moment. Amazing how glowing you feel. Well done I am really hoping Stella doesn't have too many seizures. Her grand mother is Epilepsy Effected so it is genetic. Apparently Angel is mildly effected. Maybe 2 to 3 turns a year. So I'm hoping Stella is the same We do stick to a pretty strict schedule here anyway. I just find she really responds to routine. She tends to flounder/worry if she is unsure what is happening. With her exercise I make sure not to let her get to puffed/hot. We either just rest in the shade or swim.I always carry water in my back pack. If she starts to get to stressed I calm her right down before she reaches that point where she goes into panic mode. That's when she seizured the first time. I stop her from running around the backyard once I see she is getting too tired. So I have definitely turned into the 'fun police' in her eye's I'm sure  I certainly give her an extra tummy rub especially from you. She is the most effectionate little girl I think I have ever owned. She is always such a happy, loving girl . Just adorable :) -

That is so unsual hankdog. I have never heard of anything like that. Poor Jake Such a shame something wasn't done to help him when he was a puppy. I am sure as with Stella with fautly wiring it must have some kind of impact on how they process situations. They seem to have a much smaller window of observation before reacting defensively. -

You know hankdog I have so wondered the exact same thing as you have questioned. As soon as she was diagnosed as Epilepsy effected, I was like I wonder if there is some kind of connection or link between her reactivity/noise phobia/anxiety & this???? Is it something to do with her mechanic's, the way she is wired mentally that causes both??? Does one issue bounce off the other??? I also wondered if there had ever been any tests done regarding this issue?? My local Vet isn't very experienced in behavioural issues. Am going on holidays in a couple of weeks & I visit a fantastic Vet there so I already have lots of questions for her. Actually both Vets at this particular practise are right into behavioural stuff. They love Stella to bits, probably cause she is such a 'different' dog I think. Thanks for your understanding hankdog :) By the way I was unaware that Jake had sight issues. That would answer a lot of his reactive issues I would of thought? It would be scary if you hear something but can't see what it is clearly. -

Thanks raineth. Yes certainly not something you'd hope for. It is very sad news for us but I guess it is not life threatening as such & is manageable. Very upsetting to witness an Epileptic seizure though when you don't know what is going on. I first thought upon walking out into our backyard & seeing Stella just laying there was that she had ran into something & broken her spine as she was paralysed & semi conscious. Then she was shaking/convulsing Now that I'm aware of the cause of her seizures it isn't quite as frightening. I just make sure she can't injure herself & sit beside her till she comes around. It does take it's toll on her though & a is few days before she is back to her normal self again. At the moment she isn't on meds as I'm monitoring her to she how frequent her seizures are. If she starts to have them a lot them meds are needed we won't have to. I have been in touch with a herbalist though & have been giving Stella some Epilepsy Drops & some Nervous Recovery drops. I thought this may help keep her nervous system stay healthy & also help her anxiety. Heard some very encouraging things about this alternative treatment. You can only try can't you? With the type of Epilepsy Stella has her seizures seemed triggered by if she gets too hot/stressed/tired or just had a huge day. So am trying to keep a very close eye on her to ensure she stays under her thresh hold for all of the above. Easier said than done with a girl that is so 100 miles an hour with everything she does. I feel bit like the 'fun police' & a real meanie but it is a case of have to unfortunately. Anyway that is where we are at at the moment. Always said my girl was a lot of dog. Just another thing to add to her already very extensive list of oddities. Sorry don't mean to derail this thread. It is too much of a life line for all of us with reactive dogs :) -
