  1. Who said its highly recommended? Both Teebs and I suggested that it might be temporary situation, but oh no, a dog might be alone for few days - lets call the RSPCA as it's highly traumatic. Might be highly traumatic for a dog with separation anxiety, a dog that has never been taught to be alone. For dogs like mine staying alone is part of every day life as I WORK full time and travel far for work. They are alone every day for at least 10-11 hours, or sometimes more. Somehow they don't seem traumatised by it. And if I was to leave them in the yard alone for few days checking up on them every day, they would just accept it. Not saying it's IDEAL, just might be a necessity. Suggesting that someone values their pets less then you is just passive aggressive. What would you know about me Teebs or the person in this subject? It seems you have more than one dog? Might be ok to leave them together for a few days but to leave one on it's own for what appears by the OP for longer than that would have me making some phone calls for sure. A friends neighbours (renters) moved and left a young staffy in the yard with a bag of dry food ripped open and a bucket of water. After a week my friend called the RSPCA and it turned out they had done a runner from the real estate and used fake details so couldn't be found, the dog was not chipped and taken into care by the RSPCA so it does happen. I am a renter and have moved a gazillion times and never once left my dog or dogs, it wouldn't even enter my mind to do so. If fences or whatever need doing at the new property then I'll pay double rent until it's ready for us all to move in to or the dogs will just stay inside in the new house.
  2. $71 at my old vet back home but I had been going to him for so long he rarely charged me and if he did it was half the fee. I only paid $35 at the greyhound vet down here a few months ago, I almost fell over!

    Bed Wetting

Sounds like it could be acidosis, a friends greyhound has it. I'm fairly sure it's a blood test to confirm.
  4. Thank goodness I am in NSW with four dogs with health/age issues - LOL. Isn't he just gorgeous?
  5. Hang in there Darien, you and I'm sure the other vollies there are trying your hardest in what seems an impossible task. Thank you for caring and I hope against hope that things improve for Wyong Pound. It was going fine when Craig ran it before this debacle happened and now it's all politics and smoke and mirrors. The sad thing is it's the animals that will pay the ultimate price
  6. Dear little Rocky is a Pom who is 7 and a half years old. He had some health issues that need to be considered but he is a happy little chappy. Rocky is available from the Lost Dogs Home in Melbourne. http://dogshome.com/dog-adoption/adoptable-dog/?petID=994430 Rocky has found a home
  7. Dave is on the same property and is in a relationship with the son. I went there a few times when I used to drive pound dogs for other rescues and they boarded there. I was horrified when I saw a huge amount of greyhounds in small cages with no comforts in cold weather and I asked about them and was told they were going to be shipped to Asia. I didn't ever go there again as I found it very upsetting. I am very anti greyhound racing and very anti live baiting, I won't deny it. There is a high sided enclosure right at the front of the property used for training the greys, if you live and work there, over a period of time, I'm sure you'd probably see lots of comings and goings. Who knows, some people do like to wear blinkers. My point is why was it even mentioned in this story? This is about a cav that died under suspicious circumstances at a boarding facility not about greyhound racing or live baiting but I'm sure it will be now. I'm not sure if you're implying I think live baiting is acceptable :/ I'm not going to answer that but I'm certainly not anti racing, otherwise I wouldn't be friends with Kym and Bobby seeing he's a retired trainer and still involved in the racing industry. Horses yes but still scum of the earth according to the keyboard warriors that despise "animals used for profit and gambling"
  8. I don't know why live baiting was thrown in there at the end, next minute it'll be Wags was used on a lure by the anti racing nutters *sigh* I worked with one of the Cauchi's in a pub in Tweed Heads and used to socialize a lot with him and his wife. I used to drop greyhounds at Rocky Ridge Farm at Calga also owned by the Cauchi's for road transport interstate, doesn't mean I knew anything about live baiting.
  9. And see that's where the problem lies. DBD rescue should've been contacted immediately, is she a cross? and why are they hanging on to her in the pound if she is aggressive? Are they going to rehome that dog to your average Joe because that is a disaster waiting to happen. They really have NFI, no wonder dog attacks on the Central Coast are so high, my own dogs being part of that appalling statistic so glad I don't live there anymore.
  10. How did this bellend go from a short stint on Big Brother to running this "facility"? Did he have any training in dog behaviour before?
  11. I moved to Melbourne 9 months ago so I have no idea what's going on now or who is running it. I still have many connections on the Coast though, only last month I was told about a 12 year old greyhound that was impounded so I contacted them and was basically fobbed off so as I said they haven't changed their attitude. As Dogmad said she personally visited the pound only this year as a rescuer and was told the dogs are fine...you're saying they're not Gosford Dog Paws put in for tender of Wyong and if they had been successful none of this would be happening.
  12. I have talked about this before Darien. When SoCares took over Wyong Pound David Atwell was at the helm, well it was he that formed SoCares in the first place. Then DRN got involved and there was a massive revolt and David was turfed from his own rescue org and Wyong Pound. Coasties were hoping that it would be run like Gosford Dog Paws (pound) but it became a huge shitfight and local rescues were pretty much told to mind their own business and shove off. There was a monopoly on the rarer or more rehomable breeds like puppies and rescues decided it was not worth the drama. THEN when it started going down the gurgler, locals were questioning Wyong Council on what the hell was going on, the new and "improved" SoCares started asking for help...too little too late. Basically when David was shafted and so were local rescues Wyong Pound was on it's own...and still is by the looks.
  13. what I read is that they were given permission by the owner to do so and then they (owner) changed their mind How odd I haven't seen anything about it but who drops their dog off at according to the thread title a "doggie DAY care" and then when it dies there the owner says "oh just bury it then"? Was the dog boarding for a period of time or just there for the day?
  14. Thanks everyone :) Maddie gets red itchy feet on and off so I'll give it a go.
  15. Why would you be glad the owner can get the dog back if you think she is irresponsible? From someone who had my greyhounds attacked by the same breed with a stupid irresponsible owner I don't see the sense in that at all ETA there is already a thread going for this.
  16. It's not over yet, I'm watching it now on the news and the Knox City Mayor is saying they will fight it and the dog will not yet be released and they are determined it won't be. Interestingly the lawyer for the owner said "just give the dog back, her owner clearly loves her" well maybe she could try and clear up that skin condition for starters oh and not let the dog attack other dogs?? That'd be handy O.o
  17. How do you cook them? I always leave the skin on my pumpkin when I bake them but other than that what other way would you cook the skins? :/
  18. Compost cages, in the aisle with other composty stuff (usually hidden away on a bottom shelf). I use them to keep the dogs out of certain areas of the front yard when we're trying to regrow grass in the summer or keep the dogs out of the mud in winter. They're not terribly sturdy (I use cable ties as those spiral rings are annoying and useless) so they get used strictly for blocking things that aren't dangerous but I want the dogs away from. Thanks Maddy but I ended up just getting a roll of chicken wire and tomato stakes which did the job of keeping them away from under the apple tree.
  19. My tibetan spaniels loved the greyhounds in the next property. Lined up every morning at the fenceline for a kiss. Such calm, sensible, affectionate dogs .... & the tibbies picked that up. Great to hear about the prison program. Good for both the greys & the prisoners (& I bet the staff, too!). That's great Malakita :D Mita you're right, I would say a majority are calm except for my Maddie who is a complete nutter...she is M.A.D  They are definately affectionate as you can see in the clip the grey that's hanging his body over the guys leg and the lady reporter who's trying not to laugh with the grey smooching along the wire next to her.
  20. Ungvita is available from any chemist and is a vitamin A ointment in a petroleum base. Scroll down in the link to see the uses but it's great for any cuts or abrasions. http://www.amcal.com.au/ungvita-ointment---50g-p-9310041281209?cm_mmc=GooglePLA-_-NA-_-Ungvita-_-9310041281209&mkwid=s8quf0ODF_dc&pcrid=65807435198&pkw=&pmt=&plid=&gclid=CIuWj6Tmg8YCFREDvAodUUIAzA Solugel is also available at any chemist and is a brilliant wound healer. The only thing with it is it must be covered by a bandage, you generously put it on the wound then cover and repeat every 24 hours for a few days. My two tend to split the pad on the back of their legs a lot from doing mad zoomies and this stuff heals it within a couple of days. A vet nurse at vets back home started using it and now my vet swears by it, so do I. I'll try and find a photo of my Maddie's shoulder to show you how well her wound healed using Solugel when she was attacked. http://www.chemmart.com.au/product/solugel-wound-care-gel-50g-p98039
  21. The one above isn't a new account it's almost a year old but yeah...they're coming out of the woodwork O.o So CountryGirl you haven't confirmed in any thread, are you Lilysmum? Simple question.
