  1. Ronin will be a back up too. can you imagine his giving a beau the once over? What totally beautiful photos. Thank you for sharing.
  2. Love to wake up to boxer muzzle. Had that as a child. Overnight, Horrible Herbert decided that there was no actual need for more sleep. He tried at 02:40am for let's wake up now, Momma sounds. I mustered my best growl and we slept until much later. Time to wean from the bedroom.
  3. oh thank you so much. This is like the miracle of Russell. Not sure if you know his story. Russell was found 5 days after a house fire & is on a very long road to recovery. Here's the FB page https://www.facebook.com/AnimalEmergencyHospitalAndUrgentCare Paws crossed for Merlin's recovery.
  4. (((Kirty))) I am so so sorry. Fly free Sweet Henry
  5. Vizslas retain that sweet innocence of puppies. Tibor who was 15 when he crossed to the Rainbow Bridge could still do a jig & dance to get to the small pieces of dried liver ahead of the 13 month old Vizsla puppy. Gabor was still a puppy at 14 too. My friend in the USA has Samoyeds. Her oldest is 12 and acts like 12 months still. His litter brother & sister are super puppy like too.
  6. (((Hugs))) It does help when they come home. Tibor sits looking out of his favourite window.
  7. Look over this site, Wildthing. https://www.greenharvest.com.au/PestControlOrganic/Information/NematodeControl.html Eelworms is their other name. :)
  8. May be better to try a smaller bag first in case you have problems. Then you can go bigger. I hope it does work for you, sheena. As I said we've used it in different places ( and countries) over the years. We have enjoyed not needing the poisons of chemicals. Just been outside & there are butterflies on the vines. :)
  9. Dictionary quote a soft, crumbly, porous sedimentary deposit formed from the fossil remains of diatoms. Here's a bit more info. http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/degen.html To handle it's whitish, crumbly powdery & a bit gritty. No good to use on high humidity days or on wet soil or grass. Usual carful handling, including as Ranga said, watching that eyes are not harmed. I have had DE in my eyes. It was like a bucketful of gravel. However an eye wash & drops resolved my carelessness handling.
  10. I started the same way. I found out that the human grade is essential to be used for any conditions where we are involved. DaddyVizsla started using it over 30 years ago according to his calculations. He was working with a chap who was a greenkeeper. That chap tried to make sure to avoid chemicals where possible on his lawns & gardens. Here's a couple of my sites. I may even have posted the one you read: http://diatomaceousearthonline.com.au *** shop has a special at the moment. http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/diatomaceous_human_use.html this site is the one my US friends use. Majority of them who live on both the West Coast & East Coast use DE. They too have removed danger chemicals where possible. It's been effective with flea control for us as well. In another thread I mentioned this. http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/255873-diatomaceous-earth-for-flea-control/ It is a matter of due care, and due attention if selected for usage. I can not stress that much. :)
  11. If it were me I would go this route first as well and turn to medication only if that didn't work. Good luck. Will be interested to hear how you get on. Rather timely comment. I have a friend in the USA with a Vizsla gal which also displayed similar symtoms. She consulted with the Vet to determine no UTI. Thank Dog there was none. Now this happened in mid December. Her gal has been having the corn silk tea, sweet potato & tofu ever since. She's let me know that matters have improved greatly for Piri. Follow-up with the Vet is happening this week. I'll drop back into the thread to update. Her Vet was most encouraging about the option she took. I appreciate all dogs differ and agree Vet's advice is mandatory. :)
  12. Sound advice. I am so sorry to read of this horrible incident. Best Wishes.
  13. LOL. I'm a vegetarian. I have to handle meat for the dogs and Gussy Cat, so I go through a lot of food handling gloves . Have gloves; can do anything. Ah, gloves!!! Best aid other than another pair of hands. I whizz the chicken broth just for that extra security.
  14. I just don a pair of rubber gloves and sprinkle it around the nest :) It's best to not get it in your eyes though, so wear goggles and face mask if it is windy or likely to blow around. ohMy! Best not let DaddyVizsla read this..... he is careful. But I can just see the task would fall to me.
  15. BTW< I know you said you are Vegan. Can you manage to handle meats OK?
  16. You know those plastic measuring cups and plastic buckets? Anything like the images below. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b7/MeasuringCups2.JPG/220px-MeasuringCups2.JPG http://3.imimg.com/data3/EC/SI/MY-5977518/plastic-bucket-250x250.jpg He fills a 10 litre plastic bucket ( or smaller) with the DE. Then he uses the largest of the cups to simply pour into holes. He says there's no issues with spilling any DE. :)
  17. Online from these suppliers http://www.fossilpower.com.au/Contact.html Some stock feed suppliers have it too & places like where dotdashdot works. :)
  18. Have you got a blender, as in a stick type? I would go the mixture to ensure each and every piece is truly mushy. Then I would take say one biggish cup with the (mushy) bones & blitz them further. It would be those extra steps that prevent any choking dramas. Just give Danny small amounts as it should freeze OK. Paws crossed for a positive report, DDD. :)
  19. Well, I swear by it. DaddyVizsla puts lots down the ant holes outside. Within 72 hours, there is a reduced number of ants around. We have also sprinkled the DE around the scrubbery as well. You need to make sure that you do get the human type of DE. Try to use this when there is low humidity and the soil is dry. :)

    Boxer

Always exciting. Close friend who breeds has a fully tiled house. In the heat of Victorian summers, her boxers rest on them in full comfort. Some days, she does not even need the AC on to keep them cool. Wise points to do your research including full health checks. :)
  21. I've had the same experience. I have a Julius-K9 with "In training" Patches. I have not met anyone yet that hasn't paid attention to it. Take it off however and people rush him because he is "pretty and looks different". Do either of you happen to think this is also a breed issue? People perceive less issues from either of your breed? The Vizslas get similar reactions. These harnesses below are good because they are made of cotton https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/167352345/jacket-vest-for-dogs-working-on-issues :)
  22. Just my ,2cents, I would try to avoid 'Nervous' on the harness. Some people think they are so superior they have animal powers and will still go ahead and try to pat the dog. As you say, they will be sneaky and words will mean little to them. :)
  23. The ordinary person can have really strange ideas about how to look after male and female dogs. Eg, I have known people to look me in the eye and swear that their boy dog will do nothing to their girl dog because they are litter brother and sister. Try dealing with that type of ignorance. Sometimes some appear to think puppies come from the bottom of the garden.
  24. In my Vizsla files, I have these two articles http://www.naiaonline.org/pdfs/LongTermHealthEffectsOfSpayNeuterInDogs.pdf AND http://www.caninesports.com/uploads/1/5/3/1/15319800/spay_neuter_considerations_2013.pdf :)
