  1. This breeder may know. Looks like they have a new pug from her https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/member.asp?name=PENSGEMS
  2. A couple of cat trees and some catproofing of the yard would solve both concerns.
  3. I'd be more worried that it's ok for a council to not contact the microchipped owner. When you get a dog out of the pound you expect that everything has been done to find the owner and that it's fine to rehome. This council doesn't even have a website for people to see their dogs on. They go straight onto a rescue specific FB group and get dibs on them there.
  4. It's crossbreeding with a cute name. The mdba policies (on the website) state that dogs must be bred to be predictable in all the relevant aspects and I can't see how 1st gen crosses are going to fit that remit. They also have a whole section on breeding british bulldog to be healthier so if it was about making frenchies less wonky surely that could be done by breeding within existing lines for the preferred traits. Surely their purebred breeder members wouldn't be happy to have 'shortybulls' going out with mdba papers?
  5. Are you a bit scared of GA or has your boy got a health problem?
  6. Can you please clarify that? I mean exactly what specific risks there are. Assuming risks are a negative. Because by using the word risk when it comes to rescue dogs you're (hopefully inadvertently?) setting up inferior vs superior.
  7. I prefer sedation first. Not everyone does and that's ok too it's just my preference. I get a little time to say a calm goodbye and they seem calmer too (obviously, but I've had dogs who get distressed at the vet). At home is a nice option to have, I've only had one dog euthanised at home and she was so ready it was very peaceful. Music, flowers, candles, the sunshine on her through the window. She was very tired and required no sedation. And we got to cry at home.
  8. We happily spend on our dogs, many of whom need more than the basics. Plus we have retired dogs who stay in permanent care so yes, our adoption fees are higher than $350 and that's OK imho. If we get the occasional 'easy' one who hasn't cost equal to or over the adoption fee then that's just sheer luck. You can't rely %100 on donations coming in at the exact same time a vet bill arrives so having a dog who pays for themselves or god forbid maybe a bit extra then we can plough that back into the rescue. It's not like it goes into our pockets, it just means that e.g. we can take a dog who needs desex, vacc, dental, h/w test, full blood panel, meds, chest xray and mammary surgery and pay the bill on time.
  9. This chart has been around for years Antihistamine Dose Chart.pdf download from animalclinic.com.au I'd also start only on the antihistamine before adding the EPO, just so you know if Claratyne alone works. (or try EPO first on it's own) Remember everything, even natural remedies can have side effects. So always check with your vet first. And never start a new treatment at 6pm on a Sunday!
  10. Couldn't get anyone to eat the Ivory Coat and the one dog that did got the runs. It was the chicken variety and went through her like a rocket. I find MfM fish palatable, a good size and works for everyone. I don't use much dry at all though, mostly snacks.
  11. What we could do with all that money! Off to auction to pay $10k and call it rescuing from a puppy farm?! That's donor's money. Not play money.
  12. Very hard to tell and I don't let any lumps or bumps go unchecked even though on middle-aged to older dogs it's quite common to get harmless ones. A quick trip to the vet and you'll have your answer.
  13. I'm so sorry Stellnme Rest in Peace Ned you gorgeous old gentleman.
  14. Lola is one of ours. She's ex-puppy farm, and understandably not a fan of crates/pens etc so unaccompanied transport isn't an option for her. We do interstate on the occasion that an adoptive home is willing to do the travelling (and we can organise a yard check). One lovely couple came from SA to adopt another from WA, but it's not always a reasonable distance for many. Lola is up near Port Macquarie. I'd definitely try RWL if distance is a factor.
  15. Looks like they read my post and have offered to delete the account for us.
  16. Oh that old chestnut. I make no absolutely apologies for rescuing old dogs, nor spending the money on them. Nor do I apologise for our adoption policies or adoption fees. If you don't like it, open your own doors to anything or anyone homeless and see if you can look them in the eye and say they aren't worth it.
  17. This is the rescue section of the forum for all breeds. Again, if you want to debate the ethics of rescuing this isn't the thread, you're taking it off topic. The vetwork, care, lifetime backup etc we put in on ALL dogs either from the pound or surrendered more than makes up for a relatively small adoption fee.
