  1. Four years ago my beautiful brindle boy, Bear, passed away at almost 14 years of age, my heart broke into little pieces and still gets in that state out of the blue and then it is a teary day. Bear had the most wonderful placid nature loved everyone and was always on hand to babysit any babies, puppies that arrived in our house, he loved baby puppies, he had one fault if you could call it that, if i was out of sight he would sit and cry until I appeared back in the room, never thought that I would see another like him, his Sire was imported from Holland and I had the privilege of being able to use this dog to get my Bear. Well six weeks ago my friend in NSW, who has a great grand daughter on one side of her pedigree had five amazing babies she was sired by Bear's son a Grand Champion that I bred, in this litter three pieds a fawn and an amazing brindle boy, when I saw the first pictures I thought that is Bear, now as he gets older he is looking more and more like Bear in fact an image of him and I could hardly believe it but he cries if his person is not around and needs to be picked up, I swear Bear waited for the right nurturing breeder to come along before he decided to come back down, naturally this new little man has been given the name of Bear as his pet name. His litter brother a hooded pied is the image of Bear's only litter brother. Next visit to family in NSW next year I will be heading to my friend's place to see "my" Bear.

    Desex

Early desexing I have found does not allow a puppy to mature too their full potential, I would not be desexing a dog the size of a Labrador until 12-18 months, in your puppy's case the head would develop more if you leave it until later and most probably give the mouth more chance. Even with my breed my puppies go on a desexing contract to be done once they have turned 12 month, I sold a puppy years ago and his owner had him done at six months, he came back for a holiday about 12 months later and he never did develop properly, who looked more like a bitch, sad.
  3. Why is he sleeping on your bed? I have never allowed a dog to sleep on the bed, they have a crate next to the bed and you can hear them getting restless during the night so you take them out to relieve themselves. The crate is set up as half bed and half paper for them to use if they happen to need to go and you do not wake up. One of the reasons I do not allow puppies on the bed with me is because I fear that they will fall off and do damage to themselves.
  4. The wire crates fold flat, have more ventilation whereas the plastic crates, although they do have slots for air movement would be too hot in the summer for the dogs, my Frenchies just love their wire crates as it is not so restrictive, they go in there during the hot weather especially as their crates are under airconditioning ducts, it is their den and to them a safe place, the doors are left open during the day and most times that is where you will find them sound asleep, they sleep in there at night but the doors closed and a cover over them.
  5. Yep. It's a cross bred dog. Probably bred without any health testing of sire and dam and sold for more than a pure bred. Yeah, probably people who like pugs & frenchies (very fashionable at the moment) and can't decide. Also puppy millers who are breeding both and had an oops? Or on purpose. Makes me angry though. Puppy farms/mass breeding without major health consideration is bad enough for any other breed. But then throw in unhealthy breeds like pugs and frenchies, who often need c-sections, and have the brachy face and breathing problems. Not a good idea to breed them like rabbits in my opinion! Really bad for the breeds. I know that there are unhealthy Frenchies and Pugs bred, but do not throw all of us into the category of breeding unhealthy dogs, I have been breeding Frenchies, previously Pem Corgis, for 35 years and most of my dogs have lived to about 14 years old also the ones I have sold only needing the vet for annual check ups, yes the girls do have to have c sections, but then you only ever have two litters, if you are ethical, from the one bitch. It is a lot of homework to be done before doing a mating to make sure that you have health tested dogs also what has been produced by the Sire or Dam from previous litters.
  6. Are you thinking of plastic or wire crates, more ventilation for the dogs with the wire. I have been looking into a new wire crate and Pet network in Vic. have the wire crates at a very reasonable cost, one to fit a corgi is $75 but one to hold two dogs is just marginally dearer, go have a look at their web site.
  7. Stormwey is, if I remember correctly, is a NZ Kennel, you could contact the NZ kennel club or the Welsh Corgi Kennel club, they would be able to let you know if they are still breeding. Longstanding prefix.
  8. Bulldogs, I have French bulldogs for the past 34 years, cannot be left outside in the heat, they must be inside with all the cooling things that you have bought also with air conditioning on on low. Because of their facial structure, the British would be worse than Frenchies, their breathing apparatus is compromised in the first place add heat to that and in no time at all they start getting heat stressed and that quickly leads to death, sorry to be so blunt but that is the truth of the matter, definitely the wrong sort of breed to have and leave for eight hours a day especially in summer. Other breeds of dogs with the "normal" length of muzzle, we also have an Italian Greyhound, she copes extremely well with the heat even covers herself over with a blanket when the airconditioning is on, would be much better adapted to being left but certainly with access to the house through a doggy door perhaps in the laundry.
  9. Stormwey is/was a prefix for a Pembroke Corgi kennel.
  10. :) Phew that is great news, if they are around three weeks old I would be starting to wean them now, but being with a vet nurse she would know exactly what they need. Yes sponge feeding is the way to go for newborns, it really is something to store away in the memory box if ever needed.
  11. Yes, they latex free makeup sponges, I use Biolac have better results than that. You can see how it works if you go to You tube and type in sponge feeding new born puppies, there are a couple of videos on there showing what you need and how to do it. I found it just so stress free rearing my little girl, no inhalation of milk none coming out of the nose, you soak the pointed end into the formula put it into puppies mouth, then with a syringe you slow drip onto the sponge so no rush of milk to harm the precious little souls. I highly recommend this method of hand rearing those poor little darlings, so over some people who should be banned from owning any animal.

    Mac

The first year is the hardest, but I still shed tears, when I least expect it, for my heart dog Bear who passed to the bridge in 2011 almost 14 years old, a good age for a Frenchie, we just wish our time with them was not so brief.
  13. Sponge feeding tiny babies is so much safer and quicker, just hand reared a singleton puppy this way. Best of luck in finding someone to take on the care of these poor little babies.
  14. So pleased to hear that she is doing better. I am a great believer in acupuncture for both our fur babies and humans. :)
  15. What a beautiful handsome boy Harry was. I feel your loss Go with the angels beautiful boy to the

  17. Here in Adelaide we have a supermarket, Foodland, and they stock Applaws all the time, Coles used to carry it but I have not seen it on their shelves for a couple of weeks. We also have Woolworths, yes where I live we have these three big supermarkets within five minutes walk, I have not checked their shelves for it. My dogs love it and it is grain free, they are doing very well on it.
  18. I feed Ivory Coat grain free, made in Australia, they also send out free samples, they are based in Sydney.
  19. Ditto to the above two replies. Leave him until he is around one year old then have it done.
  20. I would call Diane and get onto her waiting list, as I am sure that she does have enquiries all the time for her puppies. Seeing as you do not want a baby until next year it would be good to contact her now.
  21. He could have a vasectomy, less invasive.
  22. I use Neotopic-H lotion, contains Neomycin Sulphate, Hydrocortisone, Lignocaine HCI, I got this from the vet. If he is wet between the paws, I would use Medipulv a powder, get it from the Chemist, it will dry up the soreness and take the redness away in about 24 hours. The Medipulv is a powder and has a little nozzle on the top that you just squirt a bit where needed and just rub into the area gently.
  23. For any irritation that is damp I use Medipulv purchased from the Chemist, it is a powder and you can squirt it on to the affected area, it heals the redness. If it is dry between his toes I use Neotopic-H antiseptic anti-inflammatory anaesthetic,it contains neomycin sulphate, Hydro cortisone,Lignocaine HCI, got this prescribed from the vet.
