  1. No show is worth going too and leaving puppies at home and taking their Mother away for the day, not only will their Dam be stressed but so too the puppies. 3.5 weeks is far too soon for puppies to be weaned, I allow nature to dictate that, usually around six weeks they are starting on solids and even then they still go to their Mother for top up. Oh yes Parvo is easily brought home from shows, on your shoes your clothes, such a cruel disease especially in puppies so young, they rarely survive. There is always plenty of time to go to shows once the puppies are immunised, even then the Dam would not be in peak show condition as they usually drop every hair on their body after the pups are weaned, I have found that it takes around three or four months to get a bitch back into show condition. No show is worth that.
  2. Whoo Hoo that is great news Rebanne best of luck for a safe delivery.
  3. So sad for you as I know how much you loved Minnie, but Minnie has gone to have a wonderful life in what sounds like the perfect place which she deserves, plenty of people to love and adore her.
  4. If the breeder of the puppy is a registered breeder with her states Canine Control and she has sold a puppy at six weeks of age she has broken the code of ethics and if reported to said Canine control she will be fined and possibly put onto a suspension of membership. The code of ethics states that the sale of puppies can be done after 8 weeks of age. Definitely not before that age.
  5. My beautiful girl Caoimhe gave us a real shock about 11 weeks ago, she kept knuckling over on her left front leg and ended up starting to fall over, so off to the vet within an hour of her showing these symptoms, she had put a disc out in her neck, so to start with he had to get the swelling down and relieve the pain, she was put on Tramadol and Metacam, as it was the weekend this gave the medication time to start working, on the Monday she went back and he started a course of acupuncture, seven sessions in all over the next two weeks and continued with the Tramadol for a week and Metacam for a further four weeks, she is now back to normal and like her old self, she will be seven years old tomorrow, bless her.
  6. Not true that every dog has fleas. My dogs have never had fleas, we are built on solid rock and we do not have any stray cats to bring them in.
  7. That you have babies in around 9 weeks time. Best of luck.
  8. It is so hard to live life without our heart dogs.
  9. I believe that all dogs, whether working dog pups or not have to be microchipped, I have a son living in NSW, he bought a puppy, a xbreed, 17 years ago and even back then it was necessary to have them chipped before sale and the chip was registered with the local council, but it is better to have them registered on a national data base now, over the years in all states it is mandatory to do it.
  10. I still say look into the Hungarian Viszla, brains and great company and not over the top like the GSP
  11. Welcome to the world of retirement, never enough hours in the day to do what is needed and a dogs are a great distraction. The GSPs' are beautiful dogs our grandson and wife have the most gorgeous boy called Roy and he was easily trained, this grandson's parents, our daughter and husband have the most magnificent Hungarian Viszla, their second, she like the one that has passed are almost human, they love tracking and just being with their people and they found the Viszla easier to train than what their son's dog was, take a look at them here on DOL.
  12. OMG how gorgeous are those lucky lucky puppies.
  13. OMG what a stunning performance, the love and trust was so visible. Brought a few tears to my eyes.
  14. What a precious little baby, hope he gets a home worthy of him.
  15. Will do, but Banjo has heaps of people that love him to bits and would take him in a heart beat.
  16. You are most welcome to share Helen and Banjo's story with the Tibbie pet owners' page. Helen does not use the computer, but please do share this amazing little boy's mission in life and that is to look after his Mum.
  17. I know what a wonderful breed the Tibbie is, I have a niece in her late 50's who is almost bed ridden now with Myotonic Dystrophy, she now has her second Tibbie, Banjo, when she first got diagnosed with this dreadful disease her husband bought her her first boy, Jasper, sadly he passed at a good age and she felt so lost without him so her husband, who works full time, went and got this magic little boy for company, he is her carer basically, her Mother lives next door and should our niece have a fall, which does happen on occasion, he runs next door to her Mum and lets her know that there is a problem, other than that he sits on her lap all day or if she goes to bed he is right there with her, he knows that his "Mum" is not well and has taken on this job of looking after her with much gusto God bless him.
  18. What an amazingly touching story is this, that little dog is just the best, I think that David guided him to Len, may they have a long and happy life together.

  22. My circumstances were the same as sarsplodicus and I know that I am older than you DDD. I worked in a bank when I first left school, yes transfers were always there but my parents made it clear, my Father was a businessman and friends with the powers that be through the Lodge, made it clear that if I was transferred that it had to be in the metropolitan area so that I came home each night and that is the way that it turned out to be until I was married, yes had to leave the bank in those days once married, that is how far back I go, talking of the mid to late 1950's. So I second sarsplodicus have a nice day.
  23. Alpacas' are good at guarding stock, I have a friend with sheep and she has them and says that they do an amazing job and of course they mingle with the sheep, has not lost a lamb since having them. Would get two of them. Other than that Maremmas have been bred to guard stock.
