  1. have to admit I thought it had been, all the press said it was to be implemented in 2013 cant find a date on this one http://www.peta.org.au/issues/clothing/cruelty-wool/mulesing-barbaric-unnecessary-cruelty/ found a few others and the date it was supposed to be phased out was 2010 http://theconversation.com/how-the-wool-industry-has-undercut-itself-on-mulesing-956 I dont come from a sheep farming background and never had sheep until we rescued some from a pack of dogs and the owners never came to claim them so ended up with 3 , all three were merinos and constantly checking them for flystrike was no fun. hubby was once a jackaroo and could spot a flystruck sheep from a k away. the first time one of them was struck left me appalled at the suffering they must feel, its awful to see and treat. yet it was just a little strike, we gave them away to a friend who used their wool for spinning although as she said she preferred crossbred wool to the purebreds
  2. so you are unaware that wool buyers were told to refuse to buy wool from mulesed sheep? they even got the industry to promise to phase it out, trouble is flies have no mercy. http://www.animalsaustralia.org/issues/mulesing.php http://www.theaustralian.com.au/news/health-science/sheep-farmers-flocking-back-to-mulesing/story-e6frg8y6-1226557807686 the pressure did bring one interesting thing to light, there are some sheep with a naturally mulesed gene. selecting for that seems to be a good idea http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2005/03/16/1324361.htm
  3. It's not a flawed system. It's just an issue with the datamatch. The details are being pulled from the NSW CAR. It's pretty simple to get it fixed - just ring your council and have the original details amended. The new system will prevent this kind of future issue. Regardless, the new system is here to stay. Vets, councils and authorised identifiers will all be using it. It's your choice to use it or not use it if you're a pet owner, but it certainly makes a lot of sense to begin using it. my friend just wasted most of yesterday. so soothing to my frayed nerves to see her so frazzled at her attempts. I couldnt even get it to digest my address. it says type your address, then click on window with address choices for automatic download into the magic boxes you dummy arent allowed to fill by your stupid self. for me the box dropped but it wouldnt even deign to notice when I clicked on the correct line of addresses. it happily digested her address, then automatically filled the locked boxes intself. EXCEPT instead of her street name in that spot its where the name of her suburb is, where is her suburb? in the spot for her street name? marvellous
  4. hundreds of replies but these three are so on the mark. It really is about time to query what our govt is handing OUR MONEY too, with total control without accountability or avenue of appeal, is the money for animal welfare anymore? looks more like animal rights? To ban mulesing without a viable alternative, results in exactly what Leticia below describes. Yet this is what animal rights has forced on the millions of sheep in australia. Hayley Because theirs not animals that actually need to be rescued by the Rspca instead they go round and pick on the people who making a living off the industry who's animals are extremely well looked after What a joke. Rodeo is not just a sport it's a way of life. Stock are well looked after. Contractors won't make money damaging animals after every event. It's common sense. What about ladies breakaway roping? Is that cruel as well? What about barrel racing? Do you even know what events take place in a rodeo. How stock get there. The training involved. Anything about Country NSW? Leticia Oh for goodness sake. The rodeo is a world wide sport that showcases what happens in everyday life (apart from bull riding) on farms! Sometimes you need to rope a calf. We even pull them with rope......out off bog holes. Next we won't be allowed to ride horses in pony club because the city people said. Ffs.....you dont want us mulesing sheep but have you seen the direct repercussions if you dont, have you ever tried to save a sheep and your hand goes right through them caused by maggots. Oh i also seen now we are supposed to be saving and rehoming wild foxes! Get a grip people!!!
  5. says page not found no idea why the link isnt working. this is the article it referrs too. The Daily Advertiser Tuesday August 30, 2016 Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson slams NSW Nationals leader over broken promise LOCAL leaders have aired genuine fear for the future of agriculture in the wake of the state government’s greyhound racing ban. It comes after Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson was unceremoniously demoted via press release late last week for crossing the floor of parliament to protect thousands of regional jobs. Ms Hodgkinson told The Daily Advertiser she was taken aback when NSW Nationals leader Troy Grant broke a commitment that members of his own party would not be punished for revolting against the government’s greyhound ban. “It’s the leader’s discretion, but he made a point of making sure nobody would be penalised for crossing the floor,” she said. Ms Hodgkinson worries the greyhound ban has set a potentially disastrous precedent for livestock farming and other forms of animal-related sports. “The greyhound ban was announced as a fait accompli, there was nothing I could do,” Ms Hodgkinson said. “What’s next; bans on camp drafting, rodeos, poultry farming, dairy farming, piggeries?” Riverina MP Michael McCormack said the greyhound racing ban was “the thin edge of the wedge”, which had emboldened “largely irrational” animal activists. “Animal liberationists will not stop until every animal is set free,” Mr McCormack said. “When they finally get their way and some stupid government in the future bans thoroughbred racing, we’ll look back and say the greyhound ban was the start of this nonsense.” In 2013 Temora community members volunteered 2,500 man-hours worth more than $340,000 to upgrade the greyhound track from grass to sand in a bid to secure the facility’s future. Temora mayor Rick Firman said the greyhound club injected $250,000 per year, money “the local economy cannot afford to lose”. “This decision is sickening and disappointing,” Cr Firman said. “Greyhound racing was part of the fabric of our community and promoted Temora across the country.”
  6. http://www.dailyadvertiser.com.au/st...greyhound-ban/ Cant help but suspect she is right. AR have already changed how we breed purebred dogs despite this all in the name of placating AR and political correctness http://www.everythinggolden.com/new_page_195.htm
  7. Couldn't read the clip, subscription only. Agree there are thug types in every strata of society. But likening them to Nazis is an insult to those who were there (just referring to the quoted response). this should open for you. scroll down the page second one down on my screen. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1083536528374841/1156642571064236/?notif_t=group_activity&notif_id=1472351272183632
  8. interesting article.spotted on fb. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/state-politics/turnbull-slams-baird-ban-on-greyhound-racing/news-story/b0d9fad6195b22b2c933f6b3c9237a47 this was below it by one of the people commenting on it "Talking about rabbits. When the RSPCA and the revenue raising council waltzed onto our place, two years ago.I had picked up a live baby bunny. So I walked out with it. Showed it to the by-laws manager, who cringed at the sight of it. Offered it to the vet (well thinking he might put it down humanely) nope he cringed at it. So one of the Nazi inspectors grabbed it out of my hand rung its neck in front of everyone with a big crunch, and threw it on the ground. I was shocked, as were the people I told." found my self thinking, if anyone complained about that, they would be assured by Coleman, the said rabbit had been euthanased by the inspector. Ashton the man who shot Ruth Downey's cattle, "euthed" em by standing beside a paddock gate and shot them as they were pushed through the 12 wide gate. no single shots to the head in that so called euth precdure. any one else or slaughter place would have been prosecuted for doing same. Yet rspca called it Euthanasia?
  9. I still don't think that is a good argument thousands on unemployment benefits and being educated to do another job isn't going to cost for years??? Looking after redundant Greyhounds as they said they were going eventually make a plan for ha ha isn't going to cost. 53 million is chicken feed. Jobs that you can live off are very very hard to get educated or otherwise. Greyhounds haven't made money for them through gambling for years, from what I've been told, that's why the TAB didn't help. there is a story in the telegraph on friday. Baird loses nothing by shuting it down, Saves millions not maintaining nsw tracks and the nsw govt will still get their share of all nsw bets put on interstate greyhound racing. 18.7 million was incomed from interstate betting. he will still be receiving that.

  11. Meanwhile the poor person employed by council becomes, so is made, redundant. Another job gone, another person on the scrap heap, and the back up tech job outsourced to India. OR, the overworked Companion Animals Officer that has no time to be proactive finally has enough time to be proactive! Exactly, overworked, because there are not enough staff to do the tasks at hand. Of course I do, Anne, but Council is no different to other areas of the public sector, starved for cash and cut back to the bare bones. You are probably a fan of small government, I prefer to see people in employment. However, this is completely off topic, and I had no problem registering and claiming my dogs after looking up my copies of the transfer forms. :) tried that too. no go
  12. Exactly, my neighbors son is a programmer and he is meticulous, his programs were bought by the likes of Manchester united, Chelsea and just about every soccer club in england and europe including many in australia n the olympic centre at homebush bay, but so many are simply not properly done, still no call as promised so I think ill bide my time and leave it till they have ironed out the glitches. never forge the mess that Equestrian Australia bought, didnt even call for tenders, gave it to a board members spouse and the result of think if memory served over half a million for a complete lemon that had to be replaced and thats a lot of money lost from a org thats entirely member funded.

OR, the overworked Companion Animals Officer that has no time to be proactive finally has enough time to be proactive! Exactly! no the office staff at the reception desk do it, certainly at our council. so the companion animals officer isnt involved in that boring stuff fortunately
  14. As I think others have said its dominance thing, my mum desexed her two girls because she hated seeing it. tried to tell her she was wasting her money. and being pensioner she was awfully short of the folding stuff. well they lived another ten years for her to have to put up with them "doing" it ... snigger told u so wasnt an option she had frighting aim

  17. OK FOLKS how do you get the stupid thing to register? it says search for your address, it wont let your enter it in the boxes it wants you to type it and it give a drop down of it and similar and tells you to click on the correct one and it (cousin it, im begiing to suspect) is supposed to fill all those lovely locked boxes. except click on it and zilcha ZIP nothing happens? what next besides meltdown?
  18. Did you wonder why this wasnt a question on census night? https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BFQFDL7
  19. i know.... we are a pitiful mob in reality.... i have a real problem with the stunning hypocrisy we display in deciding who and what gets to be treated in a humane manner h I still cant believe anyone ever thought of it let alone get support for it and go ahead. What a bloody disgrace. Well, the brains behind the project has also proposed exporting dingo meat to south-east asia. Maybe next on the list will be live exports to Yulin. considering the thousands shot yearly and left to rot are in the same regions that already have chillers and protocols already in place for roo, camel and wild pig meat for sale why not value add an otherwise wasted resource? They are going to be shot anyway, or the farmers will have to give up stocking sheep, dont take as many calves as sheep massacred but cattle farmers lose significant numbers too if they aren't controlled

  21. Maybe it'll give industry participants an insight into how emotionally damaging it is to have to rescue their dogs; one after another, year in and year out, a never-ending stream of dogs, never enough space, having to turn dogs away knowing they'd die, being emotionally blackmailed by trainers, having to hold dogs as they die because they can't be rehomed but their owners won't take them back. And that's on top of the abuse copped from industry participants- being called a do-gooder, being told that our rescued dogs would have been happier dead (seriously) and all the while, being treated as a free dog disposal service. Maybe Lifeline could talk to some of the burnt-out and broken rescuers who gave up their lives/money/family just for the love of the dogs, if they want to hear about people contemplating suicide or having breakdowns I really do feel for you Maddy, I have walked your talk also which is why I am an advocate for the industry to continue with strict reforms put in place. In 11 mths time I don't want to feel those feelings of helplessness, sorrow for the many dogs that will die. I just don't want it,it's bad enough as it is. To be honest, I don't understand people that think an avalanche of dogs that will die, because the industry comes to a screeching halt is better than a trickle being able to be rescued, due to the slow death because it may not be sustainable as has happened in America. Call me thick but I just don't get it. I absolutely agree that the shut down should have been organised differently- starting with a ban on further breeding, followed by a ban on new registrations or transfers into NSW after a certain point (24 months after banning breeding would be plenty of time to get the last pups through) and then allowing the industry to just age out gradually. A plan like that would be at least five years but by the time it finally stopped, numbers would have been reduced anyway by the breeding ban and proper rehoming systems could have been organised and put in place for the remaining dogs. I also have serious reservations about how the RSPCA is handling this- I got emailed an application form to help the NSW greys, by an organisation with a pretty dreadful history with regards to rehoming, and if I'm being honest, I was quite offended that I should be subject to "approval" by them. Now, I can understand why this approval process might exist but this particular application form was not at all suitable for weeding out the dodgy rescues from the good ones- it was just a pointless hoop to jump through and, I suspect, a means of weeding out as many rescues as they could. Transferring dogs to community rescue groups is more work than just putting them to sleep and I can't help but think (based on my experiences with the RSPCA down here) that outcomes for the dogs will come a distant second to expediency in disposing of dogs. ASAL, no offense, but you don't know shit about the sorts of people who drop dogs off at my house or call me about "disposing of" their dogs. You just read my post about the emotional strain that rescuing takes on a person (and believe me, it can be terrible) and then turned that into some absurd waffle about how people who are AR nuts don't think other people have feelings. In reply to me expressing how distressing rescue was/is for me. But anyway.. yes, these people who give no f**** at all about my emotional health are exactly the sort who I have to deal with. The very first dog I ever took was a phone call on a Saturday saying that if the dog wasn't collected by first thing Monday morning, it'd be going to the vet. The next dog came from the vet, owner had dropped it off, said they didn't care what was done with it and walked away. Another from a vet, same thing, over and over again. The worst was actually a few years ago.. a trainer called me to take a dog because he didn't want to pay the $45 disposal cost at the nearest vet. I agreed to take the dog and said I'd call him back to discuss details when I got home (I was at the vet at the time), when I got home and called him, he informed me that he'd had an offer on the dog and if I wanted to save her, I'd have to better the buyer's offer. I couldn't afford a few thousand dollars he claimed the other person had offered so I had no option but to tell him to call me if the sale fell through. According to FastTrack, that poor dog is now "retired". And these are some of the people I have to deal with- they know they can emotionally manipulate me, that they can lie to me, because at the end of the day, the welfare of the dog's is what matters most to me and I'll put up with the stress/lack of money/lack of time/emotional exhaustion. So yeah, they can cry me a f***ing river at this point. They think the industry shutting down is bad, maybe they should try cleaning up after it for almost a decade. and what I was trying to say was the people who will lose it and kill themselves will not be the kind of people who do that to you. they will be the ones who really do care and are as distressed as you but don't have the strength to think things through to a solution but are overwhelmed to the degree they cant see past the pain. These are the ones baird doesnt care about. the ones who dump them on you will just do exactly that, dump and walk away.

Not feeling empathy for those who through no fault of their own are lumped into the everyone boat is what I feel equally sad for.

They are not bad people they are sad people who need compassion just as much as their pets. The AR in particular PETA people leave me in many instances feeling they not only despise their own species they have no compassion for the animals they so want to "set free" when they kill them. even less for the devastation of those who love them. if you want an example the kill wagons in America, they pick them up and kill them in the vans, including that chihuahua taken from her owners verandah when they couldn't entice her off it after entering her owners land, so the two of them went up the stairs onto the verandah caught her and carried her to their van then killed her, she was not a stray, she was not wandering the streets, she was on her owners verandah and knew she was not to leave it, but they killed her anyway. I hope I am wrong, but I suspect this will come to Australia sooner rather than later
  24. Thats right, I remember reading that, she said they had lied in court. But no one will believe they would lie. well unless you have learned it yourself. Had a dog taken when no one was home yet according the the letter from Richard Amery the decision to remove the dog was taken after a conversation ? Yet no one was there neither the owner or the dogs vet? yet this was the reason given to Richard Amery the then Minister for Agriculture for the seizure without any warning? Minister for Agriculture Minister for Land and Water Conservation (99541) Dear Ms H 14 JUN 2001 Thank you for your letter of 30 April 2001 regarding the seizure of your dog ‘S……’ by the RSPCA. This whole incident has clearly been distressing for you. However, it would seem that the appearance of your dog breeding establishment and several of your animals attracted the attention of at least one other breeder who was concerned about the reputation of the industry, the conduct of your business and the welfare of some of your dogs. The RSPCA is obliged to investigate genuine complaints regarding animal welfare and to pursue what they believe to be the most reasonable course of action given the circumstances. You indicated that two dogs appeared to be in less than satisfactory condition. Without proper records of your own or your veterinarian, showing that S…… was under veterinary care, the inspectors could only rely on their own judgement. In this case Inspector Donnelly decided that S…….’s best interests would be served by a proper veterinary examination and diagnostic work up at the RSPCA shelter. Whilst this whole incident has been aggravated by an unfortunate sequence of events and poor communication on both sides, I see no need for continuing bitterness over this issue. S….. has been returned and has now undergone a proper diagnostic work up, you have not been charged with any offences, and as a gesture of good will the RSPCA has removed kennel charges from your bill I do not feel that the RSPCA has acted outside the law or unreasonably in this matter. If you conduct your business as outlined in the Code of Practice for dog breeding establishments you will have nothing to fear from further visits from RSPCA inspectors. Thanks you for expressing your concerns. Yours sincerely RICHARD AMERY MP MINISTER FOR AGRICULTURE MINISTER FOR LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION LEVEL 17 “PARKVIEW” 157 LIVERPOOL STREET SYDNEY NSW 2000 AUSTRALIA PO BOX K220 HAYMARKET 1240 AUSTRALIA TELEPHONE 02 9372 0123 FACSIMILE 02 9372 0199 INTERNET http://www.minister.agric.nsw.gov.auEMAIL-ministers.office@agric.nsw.gov.au " the animal in question had food, water and not one of the barrage of tests done on him were listed as requiring veterinary attention, let alone immediate veterinary attention, in the very Code of Ethics the Minster recommended be adhered too? A query to that effect did not elicit a further reply though. As for the poor communication? The dogs vet rang every single day of the dogs 13 day incarceration demanding the return of the perfectly healthy dog. Somehow I suspect the Minister was not appraised of that either. Any solicitor reading that letter would have to agree the powers of seizure prior to 2001 are already pretty broad even then, the more powers have been applied for many times because they cannot act when an animal has food and water. This letter seems to be at odds to that claim we still hear?
  25. Even leaving your dog in the car with all the windows down can get you reported as a friend and I discovered one day when we decided to get a macca's. it wasnt a hot day, the car was in shade but the police were walking around our cars checking our dogs, think the only reason they were still sitting there checking out the law was they were both cattledogs. when I asked how fast could they get there when ive called the police its taken hours turned out they were doing a macca's stop too. so beware, better to one go and the other stay with the dog/dogs or use the drive through. They said even with all the windows down its against the law. https://www.rspcawa.asn.au/news/2014-09-19-breed-enthusiast-loses-dog-and-receives-35000-in-penalties-for-dog-left-in-hot-car
