Both of my dogs are 6 years old, my boy who I adopted at 12 weeks has slept in my bed since day 2. My girl I adopted 4 weeks ago cant get onto the bed so I have used this opportunity and she happily sleeps in her bed on the floor.

Whats everyone's opinion on this, hygiene etc.

I also share my bed with a 6ft male and 2 cats when they decide they want a cuddle  No wonder im always tired!!!

My 2 slept on my bed from the day they got home. Wouldn't want it any other way :)

I agree, vets have told me how it un hygienic etc.

My partner told me when i went away for a week my boy slept on my pillow, I think he was fretting. SO cute but I ended up just throwing the pillow case away.

my dogs sleep in the lounge room in there beds every night when OH is on night shift Lilly will come into our room and sleep next to the bed all on her own but if OH is home she will stay in her bed unless she comes in to let us know she needs to go outside, both are pretty good we do have weekend cuddles in bed though. I have 2 cats that sleep on the bed i have a round cat bed in the middle and they both sleep on that i also (unless its freezing the want to sleep on me, i do have a blanket on top of our bedding for the cats as well that i change every few days.

It builds your immune system

Emmy likes sharing Mr CW EW pillow with him. He use to be picky about stuff like that, but he loves it when Em shares the pillow with him now.

Both of my dogs sleep with me + my foster puppy who is staying with me.

Phoenix has always slept on the bed (so around 8 - 9 months) and Keira started a couple months ago when we moved into a new house. Prior to that when we got Keira I had a partner and he didn't like it (unhygienic) then I was at my parents and they are not dogs in the house people (they let me get away with Phi because she came as a puppy :p) but as I now live in my own place she is allowed up.

Foster puppy has rotated between crate and bed, just so he gets used to sleeping on his own but I feel bad especially on the cold nights so I let him cuddle in bed with us.

I don't think it is unhygienic, the dogs are no more or less dirty then I am. Yes, I might shower daily but the dogs don't spend that much time outside (they are both inside dogs, even when I am at work) so are both pretty clean and get baths every couple weeks.

given what some humans do in bed why would a dog be any more unhygienic ???

I have 3 on my bed currently & have always had dogs

The vets i now who are dog lovers also have dogs sleep on the bed ,the types of vets i like

why didn't you just wash it  dog sleeps on the bed anyway

I often have a couple of dogs and cats on my bed, even when Fern is in season; just put an extra blanket on the bed for her.

I have one that sleeps on the bed, although I often get the shits with her hogging the doona and kick her off. I have another that comes to bed with me just about every night and then gets chucked into his crate, when the OH comes to bed.

The dogs are clean and don't smell, so I have no issues with it

I have 7 that sleep on my bed at the moment. I just taught them all to get under the doona. That way no one hogs it and I get to sleep in doggy yoga positions around my dogs. The upside is I am never cold. :D

right now I don't have a dog (well I do, just waiting to bring him home) but we have 2 cats, we started out with just the one but just before christmas another ginger long haired boy came up for adoption at the cats home, we liked the look of him & it was before christmas & he'd lost his previous owner to old age, it was (my suggestion) our good deed for the christmas season :) anyway they both sleep on the beds, & I have covers on the couches that get stripped & washed to keep the couches clean.. in saying that, the first of the 2 cats does also have a special cat bed on top of the wardrobe in case he feels he needs his own privacy & space..

once I get my dog I'm not sure how the second of the cats is going to cope as he normally sleeps on top of me, but the little doggie is used to cats so I'm hoping with some quiet socialisation & greetings they will all feel comfortable to sleep on the beds.. besides its cold here in tassie in winter at night so I would worry like anything that my new little doggie would freeze without the shared body heat..

it may sound gross but when I was younger I had a pet rat that used to escape from her enclosure & I would wake up to her curled into my neck, I gave up trying to keep her in her enclosure during the night cause she would just get back out & be back beside my neck before I knew it lol.. she was very clean & never peed or pooped in bed, she was strangely very well toilet trained.. (I know I'm going to get funny wow thats gross looks from some of you)

to be honest as long as the animals are wormed regularly & kept free of fleas & other bugs then why not.. but then its all a matter of preference isn't it..

My two have cuddles when I go to bed and then with my OH comes to bed they get down on the floor on their own bed. BUT - I will wake up in the middle of the night wondering why I can't move my legs - to find one lying on each side of me. They are so sneaky and quiet I don't even notice them jump up. They wait til my OH and I are asleep....

Mine all get on (not in) my bed for cuddles at bed time, then the boys go to thier own beds (Bronson sleeps in a crate and Cooper has a soft bed on the floor) and the girls sleep on the bed. They all choose thier own sleeping spots apart from Bronson.

Mine just won't. They all retire to their crates at bed time. They like to be on the bed with us for about 5 mins, but then retreat to their own corners of the house.

Never thought I would see the day I didnt mind a dog on the bed! She sleeps on the OH side when he is on night shift and I find it comforting, otherwise she moves around between her big bed in the bedroom, tramp bed outside, chair outside, tiles in the bathroom or veranda if it is hot, she is a real fidgit, and the dog door flapping allways tells me where she is! But she wont sleep with OH as he moves around too much and she grumbles at him :) She always comes for a cuddle and scratch first thing in the morning though that is sometimes 4am.

Barkley always sleeps with me in our bed, sometimes Flash will too but more often sleeps with the kids cause they don't take up as much room as OH and I do! Acheron would love to sleep with me but he has his own mattress on the floor next to my side of the bed. I let him up for cuddles but he really is too big to stay the night up there when there are 2 humans in the bed as well. We also have a cat or 2 or 3 hopping up at some point through the night for a sleep too. :D
