  1. I have a dog with a serious illness that prevents her from putting on weight. She is under vet care and I spend a small fortune on drugs and special food. She is happy as but is thin. I would be devastated if the RSPCA knocked on my door or if someone thought I was mistreating her. I would always ask the owner first what is going on. It is good to care but you should get your facts straight first.
  2. I don't see being away for a couple of weeks a major issue if they have good people to look after the puppy. (says me how hasn't been on a holiday in about 20 years!)
  3. reminds me of the whippet we met that started a game of chasey with my Aussie. She's used to winning but didn't have a chance and was permanently half a metre behind the whippet yelping out of frustration  they can move! I put mine back on lead when we encounter the whippet. I am concerned about them accidentally hurting her. They don't play chasey but they are very, very good at stopping things from moving!
  4. I often meet a whippet on my walks. It runs around my 'high energy' border collies at a million miles an hour barking.... My dogs just look at it like 'wtf'.
  5. Poppy is 25 lol but is probably shorter than all of yours! Think she is around the 45cm mark. She is a bit on the chubby side but has really solid bone. So whilst she is short she isn't much fun to pick up!! I think the OP wants 'small' as in easier to pick up. Even Amber is 16kg (and around the 45cm too) .
  6. I am on a 3 month interval. Well the dog is! It has been magic for my dog btw.
  7. There could also be something wrong with your cartrophen.
  8. I think I paid about $100 for mine! Was years ago but I seem to remember that there was a big price difference then too. As in you need to get one on special.
  9. I used the Shirley method successfully on 2 dogs that don't retrieve at all. As in they will not chase any item if thrown in fun!
  10. Her love shines over my horizon She's a slice of heaven, yeah Warm moonlight over my horizon She's a slice of heaven, yeah
  11. I took a photo of one of my dogs on the ramp when this came up in the past. As you can see it does stick out a fair bit behind the car. They are pretty sturdy. Fairly light to pick up but not super light. My main angst used to be were to put it in the car.
  12. I also grab the dogs if I see kids. Most of the time I get them to sit and wait when there are adults too. Poppy in particular lovessss all people and it is just embarrassing. So yes I think you did the right thing. I had mine sit and wait for a young boy today and the young lad said good morning. I nearly fainted, most of the young kids just ignore me!

    Go Malinois!

This explains the genetics quite well. http://www.bsca.info/research/DNAtesting.pdf Lovely dog!
  14. Glad that this worked out for you. Enjoy your new puppy!
  15. OMG I hate clicking toenails! I am such a bad sleeper that it always wakes me up. My dogs sleep in the laundry room and the floor is almost totally covered by beds so I am baffled how they can make the amount of clicking that they do. They must stand and walk on the spot
  16. You can get ones with no fill, which I think most of us have.
  17. My Hurttas got a whirl this week too. Poppy's is red and Amber has a black one. Good coats!
  18. The groomer put a pic up on facebook and I guess someone from customs saw it.
  19. Hmmm it doesn't mention if there's an extra cost though. I wonder. I have a friend who lives over that way, I might ask her. There isn't an extra cost. Only if you want more than that. All the info is available on the council websites.
  20. Murrindindi also have a rural policy: Rural land: Residents living on rural properties require council permission to keep the following animals: more than 6 dogs more than 6 cats So that is 2 shires next to us.
  21. Cardinia. Local Law 10 (57.1) - Property less than or equal to 4000 square metres Unless in accordance with a permit, an owner or occupier of any residential property having an area less than or equal to 4000 square metres, must not keep or allow to be kept on any such property (not being a flat) more than two dogs and two cats. Local Law, Clause 57.1 (PDF, 133KB). Local Law 10 (57.2) - Property greater than 4000 square metres Unless in accordance with a permit, an owner or occupier of any residential property having an area greater than 4000 square metres, must not keep or allow to be kept on any such property more than four dogs and four cats. Local Law, Clause 57.2 (PDF, 133KB).
  22. It would be much better if the shire recognized that there were rural as well as towny areas in the one shire and treated them differently. I was always annoyed that I had a 2 dog limit at my last place, but couldn't sub-divide because I was rural. If you have an acre in Emerald area you are allowed 4 dogs (last time I looked) without a permit.
  23. Weird that people immediately think he was being an entitled prick rather than considering that he just effed up. It is nice that they love their doggies enough to bring them with them. Obviously a very potentially dangerous mistake and fines should be issued but not sure he needs to be tied to the DOL stake and burnt.
  24. Are they also having bones or kibble? If not then you are missing calcium.
  25. I couldn't agree more. Well in the case of the border collie we want to change the standard so it is in line with the country of origin. It is Australia that has a weird standard. We had a facebook page about and people from other countries were totally baffled by our standard.
