RIP Boof Hugs to all of you.

This is causing major angst in border collies as a heap of colours have been excluded for no good reason. Most of the exclusions are just really dopey as you can have a black tri but not a chocolate tri but you can have a chocolate dog. It makes zero genetic sense and is an embarrassment. Not to mention my gorgy sable border collie that is excluded. You can put them on the limit register. If there is no health reason to exclude a colour then I don't think they should be excluded. But weirdly blue is allowed and that does have a health issue.

I am a really dodgy sleeper. If I wake up to takes hours to get back to sleep and sometimes I don't. So I never have animals free ranging at night. The dogs get shut in the laundry.

Can anyone recommend a behaviorist/trainer down Portland way? Person owns a Sibe and just got a rescue Mal. They have had a bit of a disagreement over food.

Beach robes are handy too but might be too much fun to put on in the rain! http://www.surfdogaustralia.com/products/beach-robes

Tried Glen 20? You want an smell remover not just something that is going to cover up the smell. During the dead rat incident I found coffee grounds one of the best things to cover smell. You can also buy special smell reducers. http://www.smellgone.com.au/index.php/faq/dog-odours

Does he ever do the 3 legs just walking around the garden? If he is only doing it on bush walks/walks I would be thinking he has stepped on an ouchy. My dog that had ligament problems (torn ligament) would do the 3 legs just walking in the garden. I would sometimes need to help the knee back into place. She showed zero pain when this happened btw.

When I say my dogs are smart I am not really thinking about obedience stuff. I am thinking more about the everyday things that they do. Things like knowing each route that we walk on and stopping at the turning points to see which way I am going to go. Things like coming and barking at me because a horse is stuck in a fence. Knowing the difference between dog walking clothes and gym clothes. Poppy was quite disobedient doing herding. But she knew what she was doing better than I did so I used to just get out of her way. But looking at the other things on the list I find border collies really good dooers with food, they don't need a heap of food. Grooming is pretty easy. Apart from the Amber I haven't had too much go wrong with them medically (and even though she has the shunt she is pretty healthy). They aren't super expensive to buy.

Sorry border collies are also smart and do think for themselves. If this turns into a border collie bashing thread I am going to get very pissed off.

The table isn't just about intelligence.

I have an emergency stop rather than recall. From there I can recall, go to them or re-direct the direction they are going in.

Looks about right to me

I did call the vet in hysterics saying my horse had a broken leg. Turned out to be a hoof abscess! Which do hurt obviously but isn't terminal. The vet was pretty good about it and said it happens a lot.
-
You certainly need more than one vet to check the heart. I had a vet tell me that my dog had a murmur. She doesn't at all. No idea what he was listening to!

Oh dear! Glad it isn't anything sinister1

Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

You aren't going to get reported for him going off his tree :) Sure it must be very embarrassing but him barking, bouncing or whatever on lead is not something that you can be charged with. When I see people with dogs acting like that I feel sympathy more than anything. If I see them out a lot, I think 'good on you for still walking that dog'. -
If it was just one thing like the floor behavior then I would think something bad had happened on a hard surface. If there is a lot of weird new behavior I would be thinking that there is a medical reason for it.
-
I don't do anything fancy :) First recalls would have been with me running backwards on lead. I build a lot of value for me when they are puppies though. And I am very careful not to break the recall with calling them if they aren't going to come (normally only bath time :) ).

A friend of mine likes to take photos of the dogs running towards her. So we would call Amber when she was a pup to get her to run towards us. She thought it was a great game! No food treats involved. Think recall is her fav thing. In her formal recalls there is usually a leap of joy as she takes off. This is her coming in as a pup. Lots of distractions around and she is coming away from the other dogs.

This is for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Not all animals with pancreatic problems have this.

I haven't used a pet loo but I wonder if it is the height that is the problem? have you tried slowly building up the height of the grass matting?

Dogs barking on acreage are just as annoying as dogs barking in the burbs!! I reckon the sound carries more too.
