You have a great life, I am surprised you get time to post here, but I am glad you did.
-
great pics, judging by the doodle on the cattle dog, I'd say it's a boy.
-
there's even a National Bullock Drivers association http://www.heritagehighwaytasmania.com.au/...llock-festival/ that Brian Fish could be a good bloke to talk to.
-
You could always train him. He might be useful on your property if he could haul things around. Cattle are pretty smart, he can be the first in your bullock team.

Dont worry about photoshop, I cant work it out either, just have a play with the programs that are designed for Canon, the ones I mentioned that are on a disc that came with your camera.

I'm in the same boat Woofnhoof but I watch alot of stuff online (iview and yahoo7). I wonder if it will be shown online later, might be worth checking up.

The photos you see posted by others are almost never straight out of the camera. They've usually been adjusted in some way, sometimes a little, sometimes alot with colour, contrast, sharpening etc. Even if you dont have photoshop, your camera would have come with a couple of programs which are quite good to use, Zoom browser for jpegs and DPP for jpegs and if you shoot in RAW. Have a little play around with them and see what your photos look like then. You have great subjects, I love your photos, that one of him chewing the carrot is too cute. Makes me think of Winston Churchill and his cigar

This is something that drives me nuts! We get alot of hooks and line strewn around the lake where I walk my dogs, it always gets worse on the school holidays. A walk along St kilda pier is fraught with danger for people and dogs.

You've taken good photos in the past. If you want to try getting a shallow depth of field, you know where just the dog is in focus but everything else is blurred put that 50mm on. Put your camera on AV, set your ISO to 200 and your aperture to 2.0 or thereabouts, you need your shutter speed to be higher than at least 1/250, and go take a photo of Frodo looking handsome, then come post it here. Hurry up cause it's getting dark, you might need to increase your ISO.

thanks guys, I've cropped it alot and brought the brightness down in editing. This is what it looks like straight out of camera, pretty ordinary.

Might be worth contacting Iggy rescue. Although they are in NSW they still might be able to help. http://www.iggyrescue.com.au/index.html they are members of DOL too indigirl and dogmad.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)

Hi Jed, was your house insured? If so please check on what it covers. Accomodation costs while you are homeless might be available. Makes me think I need to look into just what I'd be covered for if something like this happened to me. Sometimes they dont actually tell you what you're eligible for unless you ask. -
The moon this morning. I love moonlight, that's what made me grab my camera this morning. I was feeding the dogs their brekky in the dark and noticed the glow at the end of the house and just had to have a go. I dont have the right lens to get a good shot, I used my 70-200 but really need something a lot longer. I was in manual and played around a bit with ISO, shutter speed and aperture. I needed a fast shutter speed cause it's hand held so it took a few goes to get this one. It's not great, over sharpened but the best I could do with what I have.

Yep, 2nd and 3rd are my faves too.

I thought he was dressed as a monk initially, then I realised it's the famous snuggie!!!! ;) Reds expression is priceless.

Here's the other archive thread on it I started last year. I've just added a few more piccies to it even though I've sold that lens now. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=671028

OK, so you've only just got the 50 1.8. Have you tried it out yet. Take a few pics with a large aperture, maybe some head shots just to see what they're like before you go spending anymore $$, which as we all know, is all too easy to do. ;) Have a look in here to see what the lens can do. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...4547&st=405

what about this one, under $1000 only f/4 but supposed to be very sharp. It doesn't have the lower end wide angle you were wanting as it goes from 70-200 but you say you never use your 18-55 anyway. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showth...39&page=179 here it is at DWI https://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/...sp?idProduct=69

Yeah, wasn't there some beauties in there.
-
What are you currently using and where is it letting you down? In other words, what more do you want from it?
-
why not join POTN and ask for advice there. Tell them what you want it for and what your budget is. Both those 135's are Prime lenses, meaning they only have one focal length, you cannot zoom in and out with them, if you want to get closer, you use your feet. The large apertures of 2 and 2.8 mean you can get that lovely shallow depth of field though.

the 135mm f/ 2 is more than $1000 see what happens, you always end up spending more than you planned.

Ummmmmm are you sure this story is actually true? I have shown for more years than I care to remember and have heard this very story (breed changes each time) for many years. Yes it's true, I know who the breeders are, they are Victorian and quite well known, have been showing for at least 20 years, but I am not going to name them.
