why? Yes why? I've never owned a rescue dog or a crossbreed and I never will, I'm a purebred dog snob and proud of it. I have 3 purebred dogs of my chosen breed, one of which is a rescue. Doesn't make him any less a pure bred though, I just don't have his papers. In answer to your question of why have a rescue ? That would be to change the life of one dog....it can still be a purebred all the same. I change the lives of all my dogs

You are aware that a lot of breeds started out as crosses, until they eventually got accepted as a purebred? :D hence the 1000 years selective breeding bit A lot haven't been a purebreed that long. true but mine are and most have over 100 years, that's a lot of generations as opposed to the dog next door getting to the bitch down the street, or the ones on the puppy farms. and FWIW I have a 13 yo pound puppy here as well

sorry for the loss of the pup but can I ask why the pup wasn't vaccinated again at 8 weeks? Cause I thought that if you vaccinated at 6 weeks you then did them again at 8 weeks, then 12 weeks? I thought that's what happened some (many) years ago when I bought a pup that had been vaccinated at 6 weeks. I give mine their 1st vacc at 8 weeks so am not sure of the protocol

Will Desexing Stop Males From Fighting?

no salukis today

no way, when did getting a purebred dog become bad? Don't all dogs deserve good homes? Why are pound dogs more deserving than purebred dogs?

Yes it was a good show but why even put the bolded part in? Most clubs have internal conflicts, differences of opinions, from time to time.

Should Small And Big Dogs Behave The Same?
Rebanne replied to grumpette's topic in General Dog Discussion
actually I don't understand the need for so many dogs to be "friends". I walk my dogs (on lead) for exercise not to have a garden party socialising. I expect my dogs to basically ignore other dogs, to be indifferent to them. When harrassed by other dogs, I still expect them to ignore them as much as possible, polite hello but then we move on. But if push comes to shove, then yes I also expect my dog to defend it's self. And as they are large and the offending dog is often small then yes you can expect damage to be inflicted. -
no problem

how can you get numbers if the entries are still open

and that is why Brooke is raising this issue. I think we might be getting somewhere.... Brooke identified another Doler, before the edit, who did not go about things in the right way, but has anyone actually showed that person any respect by actually thinking for one minute, hmm they don't normally post like that, has something happened in RL, etc? It was just assumed they were being nasty for no reason. And maybe they were but we don't know that. RL does impact sometimes on how we post, not everyone recognises that maybe they should not be on a forum right then, reading upsetting posts about a breed they love and care for.

and the week before and the week before that
-
yes but do you think anything has changed regardless of how many times this topic has been raised? I don't see universal respect on here yet do you? no and there never will be cause people don't automatically respect each other, that's life.
-
I reported the thread before your edit.
-
Great so we can all start the thread again (yes minus any reference to a previous thread) to get the point across AGAIN about respecting people! do a search, there have been plenty of these threads in the past.
-
b Thanks for your concern. But until the OP edited their post, the thread that was the target of this one was easy to find and another Doler was hung out to dry and you only have to read posts from those above yours to see what people are saying about her. I agree her manner was not right but I actually did agree with some of her thoughts but I also disagreed with parts. So the OP started a thread saying play nice, then made it easy for people to not play nice by directing them to a specific thread. This thread won't last long because I have reported it for being against forum rules.
-
Rubbish! You have targetted a closed thread. You have made it obvious which thread you are talking about in your very first sentence. While you claim many people are too scared to ask advice I would counter with too many are not interested in any advice unless it suits them, and are not prepared to listen to people who have been in dogs for a long, long time and often have some real gems to share. Now you can post about me and say how mean I am for daring to point out the forum rules to someone who should know better.

Goldies Behaviour When Husband Comes Home?
Rebanne replied to Snowball's topic in General Dog Discussion
She's a retriever and she's bringing him home. I actually don't see a problem. One of my greyhounds used to do it when he first arrived. Hold my hand while we walked around the back yard. He also used to smile, both habits stopped as he settled in, I miss them.
