Long Rant About A Scary Guy At An On Leash Oval
Esky the husky replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
2 metres I'd report him -
So I guess the inference is that only dogs under effective control are legally allowed off lead. If someone asked you to call your dog away, and your dog did not respond to your recall, would you walk/run to your dog to stop it approaching? If your dog gets bitten, because your dog and the other dog (onlead) do not get along, do you consider it the fault of your dog or the other dog, or would it depend on any physical damage to your dog? Thank you! Yes, if she did not respond I would approach her and remove her as required. Esky was bitten once, a guy decided to approach us, both on leash because his dog was a bit ' whatever excuse he used' . He approached, dog got within sniffing distance, lunged straight at her neck Needless to say he made his excuses to leave quite swiftly. In that case I consider it his fault, especially being aware of his dogs issues. If my dog had been hurt I would be taking it up with him. If Esky on the other hand was being rude and pushing another dogs buttons, I have no issues with the other dog giving her a warning to back down

There are people in Australia racing Eurohounds. Very good friends of mine actually It's all a matter of personal preferance I guess and what breed appeals to you. Yep all down to preference. I prefer the looks of Spitz breeds. ;)

Most of the ones I've been to say that the dog must be under effective control or leashed (even though it's an offlead park) I would hope that could work to your advantage in these kinds of scenarios, but who knows? I manage to pick a time when no one else is around to allow for free running. I leave or wait until it's free otherwise. I don't have a 100% recall, but I need these parks to practice it in ;)

When you tweak with temperament inevitably you always effect the dog's nerve. Always when we make guard dogs 'softer' and independent dogs more needy the result is dogs that are not as steadfast in their response. Clingy, hyperactive, neurotic - I hope the independent spitz (btw what is plural for sptiz? ) do not become that. There should be no argument. Breed Huskies for less independence and you will change a whole lot more than propensity to sink in the ice. Everything about the way the dog looks at its natural environment and human interactions is altered. Also the dogs sense of self in this context. ;) You should be telling that to him. I love the husky how it is. It's a shame its a point we can't agree on, so it looks like Esky will be the last of her kind

Sorry but I think anyone who thought your dog was am APBTx would be seriously seriously stupid ;)

This is something my OH and I argue about a lot. Huskies need that streak to help them survive. If you had a dog that just did as it was told, you might find yourself sinking in a lake of ice. I do know of a breeder- or a whole group of breeders who are in the process of developing a more obedience spitz type breed. I know some people dislike cross breeds etc, so i won't go too far into it, but they do seem to be doing right by all the dogs. However I know they don't race as well as huskies ;)

Not meaning to derail the thread, but how do you enforce this. Seperating the dogs if they are mouthing?

Your nearest drake stores are Castle Plaza, Ascot Park -just off marion road- or west beach. I used to work there and we stocked plenty of turkey. You can get the drumsticks and wings in bulk very cheaply, also turkey necks are available from the service deli. Miss Squish- can you buy direct from Aldinga Turkey?

What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Away?
Esky the husky replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sometimes I have to go away without taking my dog. Nowhere I go would be very fun for her, eg going away for Christmas would be very boring for her as I would be busy catching up with people I haven't seen in ages. I din't trust any relatives with her because they don't share the same ideas about raising dogs. So the only option is kennels, I'm hopefully trying out a decent one this weekend, our local one is less than desirable. -

Congratulations :D Maybe you could even think about getting a mature dog now, then when the time is right you can add your puppy and it will have a great canine role model.
