Yes Snook, Justice must have taken lessons off Stella on how to give the impression of "please feed or else I'm just going to fade away to a shadow, can't you see that?" while she is dribbling/drooling all over your feet  Pathetic isn't it!! -
Testosterone - How Long Till Levels Drop After Desexing?
BC Crazy replied to Tazar's topic in General Dog Discussion
I sure hope the owners of this puppy take up your most generous offer Nekhbet. This whole scenario is a disaster waiting to happen IMO otherwise. Someone/thing WILL get hurt or worse I too have witnessed aggression in Labradors. It can happen. People think they are ALL friendly but that is not always the case. I think it can pretty much happen in any breed for any number of reasons. -
Teekay, 1/3 of a chic carcess as a treat after our beach run. She has 3/4 cup dry food with some barf/sardines/egg for T :) I'm paying through the nose for chic frames from woolies I know but its the only place around that sells them.

Yep, chicken bones are fine for any pup, just supervise closely the first few times to see how they eat it and if you need chunk it down a bit to start off with. They might take forever to eat them though (depending on the breed). Also depending on breed they might not need a whole frame just yet. True, I give my girl who is 17kgs a 1/3 of a frame, my previous 45kg dog had a whole one. I am giving my 17 kg girl roughly the same about one third.

Gosh I hope woolies don't stop selling them in NSW cause they are really meaty & its only 3 mins awat from home. Minimax , Lenards are cheap, arent they? Wish we had one near us.

Hi Longclaw. My brother & his family have an 9 month old Havanese, 'Lola'. She is an absolute delight & copes very well on her own as both adults in the house work full-time & the kids are at school. She is an awesome family dog. Great with the children & is very well balanced.Quite happy on her own but loves to see everybody come home too. I didn't know anything about Hav's before Lola, now I just adore the breed. I would totally recommend them. Lola is just a fun loving, bubbly little girl that oozes personality & are very bright to boot. :) just wanted to add that Lola is such a hit in my brothers family home that there is "talk" of getting Havanese no.2 "Charlie" to add to there dog loving family. They recently went on family camping trip which Lola just loved & she was so well behaved for one so young :)

Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

Hi Snook, thanks for posting those utube clips. Kikipup is great. I have just started to do the 'give me eye contact before you can the treat' exercise with Stella as she is very food driven atm & I think that is why we aren't moving forward with training as she is just fully focused on the treats -

I have learnt my lesson. Not all people are dog lovers, even if they have a dog of their own. As strange as I think it is. I keep mine well away from other as much as possible these days. That said you will still get your odd aggro like the one I 'meet' last Saturday. That's life I guess. I would NEVER hit anyone's dog unless it was attacking me or my 2 nor will I allow them to hit mine.

Just caught this thread Donatella & so glad Lucy is home & having loonies again. It is just so worrying when they are unwell. I steer well clear of pigs ears, I have just heard too many horror stories of choking or sick dogs. So many are imported too so their processing may be done who knows how ?? We stick with Vege ears. Alot safer :)

I was always told not to give milk to a dog as they have trouble digesting it The amount of grain also concerned me, but that's just my thoughts & am by no means an expert.

Yes the rock thing is disgusting. Horrible. Bad shot or not I had an old bloke try & lay into Stella one day , she was 6 months old at the time with his umbrella because she jumped up on him. I saw red !! I gave it to him verbally. I never hit my dogs & I sure as hell wasn't going to watch anyone else do it. I still see him sometimes on the beach ,he keeps away though. Just where I want him. Why on earth is it "OK" to hit a dog
-
Blackdogs , I can sympathise with you. I have had a few incidents at our local leash free dog beach. One last Saturday in fact. I was wading in the water with my 2 BC's & had my gear up on the bank. This young guy, late teens, comes down with preg. GF & Mal female. No lead for the Mal, she approaches but then takes off, all good. Then they decide to set up camp right on top of my gear on the bank, so I get out & go to move my stuff further up the beach as his dog approaches mine I yelled nicely that my girl is reactive, could you call your dog back, just want to collect my things. Well he started to abuse me, swearing his head off. "you f ing stupid old c, you'll be paying the vet bill" I said I was just trying to warn you mate hurrying to pick up my things & get away from him. By this stage he was yelling/swearing at me. I did ask him several times not to yell & swear to which he replied " what the f are you going to do about it "I couldn't believe it! This guy was so angry & aggressive. He was getting in my personal space too & I was starting to get fearful. I must say my boy was so good at that point, Sonny put himself in between me & this aggressor & just stood there, which gave me just the moment to escape. I moved right away but the whole time he was yelling abuse at me. You can never be too careful, he could of had a weapon or anything. My girl did me proud though as she never moved from my side or made a sound even though his Mal kept approaching us with every intention of starting something. I was astounded really by the whole situation really & left very shaken

Oh Tassie, so very sorry. Thats really sad

Just wondering nekhbet about Vans, so you mix the complete mix with raw meat & thats it? Is the complete mix all grain?
-
I sure do understand your concern. As said before though, it is just free play. They feel good & must expel energy. My youngest girl is an absolute loonie most mornings around our backyard & although it doesn't usually last long, I cringe & wait hoping not to hear a loud yelp or cry out if she hurts herself. She does sumasults, leaps in mid air, army rolls & puts the brakes on at the very last minute all at 100 miles an hour. Absolute nutter  Yes it's hilarious to watch but very worrying. She has always done it & I think she always will as I would never stop her. Swear she will be the reason for me going grey Only word of warning, don't get in your Corso's way, even though he is only a pup they are huge from the ones I have seen, he would surely flatten you

I would NOT hesitate getting further tests done on this pup. IMHO there could be something more going on here.Genetic or otherwise you'd be better off to know where you stand with him health wise first. He sounds very aggressive for a youngster. This behaviour will only escalate & escalate VERY quickly if not sorted out smartly. I wouldn't be waiting around. Health check first, if all's good, secondly a VERY good behaviourist. If this problem is left, again IMHO someone WILL get hurt as the pup grows, so does his confidence & before you know it you have a HUGE, potentially VERY dangerous problem. -
I don't think this diet is a very balanced/ healthy diet for a canine at all. So much grain, oats etc. & milk ?? Which upsets a dogs tummy too. There is no source of calcium either. I would be very concerned feeding a dog for any length of time like this If you want to "go natural" try Barf.
