I am vain, and despite the fact my dogs all own so many collars, they never wear them becayse it puts dents in their neck fur Cant wait to have a shorthaired dog :D ETA: and they are all walked on harnesses, so not even used for walking

I use "nearly" if they have almost got it and need to keep trying, "what can you do/whoops" if they are going the wrong way and "yes" for the reward marker. Alternative reward markers could be anything! they dont speak english, so it could really be anything Shrimp? Fab, mhm, got it, great, ok, magic, apple- anything short and easy to say that you wont forget!

They are adorable!

I wish this wasn't true but unfortunately, it's very, very accurate. Like rabbit welfare groups who believe rabbits should live entirely indoors. Human is comfy indoors, therefore bunny must be more comfortable indoors? Despite the fact they're a relatively recently domesticated animal and not at all suited to that sort of life. You wouldn't keep a sheep locked indoors around people- having humans constantly within its flight zone would be incredibly stressful- but because rabbits are smaller, despite the fact they are also herbivorous prey animals, it's somehow okay. And that, funnily enough, is actually a perfect example of anthropomorphism- assigning human wants/needs to other animals, even to the detriment of the animals concerned. "he's a rescue" :D My link Warn; Bit yuck at the end; don't watch past 1.55 if feeling fragile. That is hilarious, and i have heard similar things (not quite to that degree) from some!

I read somewhere that it doesnt have to be, but it will extend its shelf life if it is. But i feel like that technically means it needs to be BTW, which colour protexin do you use Yonjuro?

I dont know any on the Northside, maybe try calling some vets and ask who they recommend? Some do it in their clinics, while some will have an external school come in. And i am sure others will pop in with recommendations too :)

You Care More About Your Dogs Than.......
denali replied to Dory the Doted One's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do you prefer our dogs company: Yes, i love my dogs! I have a social life that doesn't revolve around the dogs, and one that does (agility people, etc.) but i wont lie as i do prefer when it does revolve around them, as the people get me more than my non-doggy friends. My best friend has learnt that the dogs and i are a package deal, so now instead of asking if i want to go out for coffee it "want to go for a dog walk?" Yes, yes i do But like SG i am also single and kidless. Have you ever been accused of caring for your pets more than anyone else? Yes, my family all says things like "you love the dogs more than me" often, and my mother recently pointed out that i care about the dogs health more than my own too I don't confirm, nor deny, these comments Do you ever worry they rate too highly? No, i should given they rate above my own self but i dont. eta: i cant type.. -
Makes sense. I've never used a head collar, because they dont work on cavs, the strap gets too close to their massive eyes because their noses are short But i did wonder whether they were able to be used in the same way.

Not directed at anyone, just a question. In these training situations, would a halti not be a good substitute? Eta: like a head halter

Only one of mine was smart enough to crack it  the others just walked away..

We didn't win anything, but for a while now Deniki has been very unsure and not confident at agility training, home or at club, we took off some time from agility, started training some tricks, and flyball to build confidence, and had the BEST training session in the backyard. 5 minutes of super enthusiastic drivey awesomeness. So proud of my boy

I used a "Tick key" - you just slide them in and pull them out :) They are very easy to use and so far has worked perfectly each time. I have always just pulled them out with my fingers...I don't muck around with tools..if I see a tick I just get it down as low as possible & pull it out. I historically do just that too, but my nail on my index finger isn't long enough at the moment thanks to a gardening mishap, so couldn't get under it Thankfully i had one of these in the first aid kit, because i couldn't find tweezers anywhere either! Thanks jem - they will be in the water a lot (Em's trialling) so is that still effective? advantix claims it is water resistant so swimming, bathing and shampooing will be fine but i have never actually used a tick product. But may have to this year, they are out in force, i now know 3 dogs personally who have had one in the last week

Hi Divyd, And welcome :) Ok, so this could be slightly long. But I will give you a bit of background. henry is my 6.5yo Cavalier, he has a terrible back and had suspected HD also. He was a rescue from an elderly lady who passed away, and i got him at the age of 5, severely overweight and not active at all, wouldn't jump, yelped when you touched his back end etc.. He was xrayed at 3yo with slight arthritic hips, but no HD as such. But i will answer your questions anyway as i think it may help :) 1.) Yes- to the above. I have a vet who does all three as needed. The chiropractic definitely helps. Well all three help to be honest! He gets it on an as needed basis, at the start it was very frequent, now its usually once every 6-10 weeks. Not sure of any in your area though. Something else to consider is hydrotherapy, to build up the supporting muscles without the stress on the joints. And maybe contact sas at The balanced canine in sydney to see if taping could be helpful: http://www.balanced-canine.com https://www.facebook...erapies?fref=ts And obviously making sure your dog is kept as lean as possible will help too. 2.) Yes, Henry is on a fully raw diet (only biscuits occasionally in a kong or similar but barely any of his diet is dry food.) I supplement him with turmeric Golden paste (which is anti inflammatory), salmon oil and coconut oil alternated (fish oil isn't necessary if your dog is fed grass fed meat, but not all of his is, so i just add it.), eggs, canned and fresh sardines, and an MSM Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. I also give him green lipped muscles and shark cartilage as treats. This is the glucosamine i use : http://www.ebay.com....=item23407b7e86 When he has a flare up, we give him Boswellia complex (on advice from my chiropractic vet) and this seems to help. He isn't needing any drugs at the moment, but was on a NSAID prior to all the supplements and i would put him back on them if its needed. 3.) He was given a course of cartrophen, with no improvement at all. So this is not something i have continued with. I also do conditioning exercises with him. With the above, he is back to running around, doesn't yelp and is much more energetic :) At the beach on the weekend!

I know one also actually. He wasn't trained either at the start, but they did get him fully trained and certified in the end :) But i just seemed to come naturally to him! Sorry for the

I agree, its not something i am willing to try yet, as many cavaliers have actually died from its use.. But do know of many who are using happily and with great results :)
