How can you have a brindle without stripes?
-
Congratulations Becks, hope the little one fights hard for you. thanks, sadly she passed during the night. i thought she wouldn't be long for this world. Indy is being supermum with her 7 pups.
-
What breed are you feeding? Mini Schnauzers What do you feed normally? Arden Grange lamb and rice, some veg, chicken wings and natural treats sometimes. What if any changes do you make to diet after mating? none after mating, will move to puppy food in last week of pregnancy, so she is fully on that food when pups are born. What changes do you make to diet confirmation of pregnancy? um, not sure what the question means? what is diet confirmation?

8 pups now, 5 male, 3 female

looks like you can add me to the puppy thread! Mini schnauzers, 7 born so far but the first out is tiny and may not make it :-(
-
Thanks for the link, will have a look later, when mum has finished having pups. 7 so far and there seems to be more to come! not bad for an old boy and a slip mating! lol

She is a bit thin but otherwise fine at this stage. Vets don't tube feed and won't supply what would be needed or show me how to do it, and I am loathe to try something like that without knowing how not to get it in the lungs by accident.
-
That's what I normally do, Ellz. Just debating whether to be a little more 'proactive' this time as she is so tiny, and go and stock up on some nutrigel from the vets and start her on it today to make sure if possible she doesn't get to the flagging, chilled and low blood sugar stage.

Having just had the first born weigh in at 62grams and the next one at 180grams to give you a comparison to normal birth weights. What do you do to help the small born pups survive in the first week or so? Do you just make sure they get their turn at the milk bar or offer other help?

Depends on which country you live in! In the UK you could still have a fully papered GSD from such a mating, if both parents have endorsement free papers.

Do yellow flat coats get winter nose? Just a thought for the future, if they take the pup and then the nose colour lightens again!

i would try treating her with Panacur wormer, as this is used to treat Giardia, at least you will be able to then cross that off the list of causes.

How To Prevent Ants Raiding Puppy's Kong
becks replied to chris&anna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would keep them inside, where the ants can't get to them. btw come and join us in the schnauzer breeds forum above the general chat area. -
With mini and bladder stones, it is the pH level of the urine that needs to be controlled. The problem is with a Giant Schnauzer, she is constantly thirsty and can drink a full bowl without coming up for air and will go back for more as soon as the bowl is refilled. The urine, while very water like in colour is not what they class as dilute - it still has the same of whatever values they compare to blood (I'm getting this info 2nd hand as she now lives with my dad) Until I see the package of the food sample, I don't know what sort of protein % we are looking at, but will hopefully have more info on that soon. However, as we know vet prescription diets are very pricey, especially for a large breed dog SAS what level protein are Dane pups fed?
-
After 2 months of vet visits, blood tests, urine tests etc etc the conclusion seems to be my 6 year old has a possible liver tumour. Vets have suggested a low protein diet and have ordered in a sample for her to try. has anyone any experience of a dog needing a low protein diet? Aside from vegies what other things could she eat? i would be interested to know of what she could have for main meals.

the oil is on the paper, not smothering the clipper blade, the blade shouldn't be oily. I very rarely oil my clipper blades. Yes clipper oil, I just use the tissue after using it to wipe the scissors after they have been oiled.
-
yes, try feeding later.
-
yes, i take my minis off puppy food at about 6 - 8 months, once they have finished growing upwards.
-
wrapped in oiled kitchen paper to keep moisture away from any blades not in use.

Advice Please, Puppy Won't Gain Weight
becks replied to nikrhithokaylin's topic in Breeders Community
I've had this with a couple of pups. I supplement feed about every 4 hours in the first week - day and night - I found leaving them with mum over night, they would loose what they had put on during the day but with feeding in the night, they would slowly start to gain. One of these pups went down to under 100g and I got him through and he is now a healthy 2 year old. -
I have an 11.5 year old Giant Schnauzer who was doing a few rounds of agility over the last weekend, so still pretty fit and active, even though no longer in her prime. She has been shown up to very recently too. I think genes do play there part, as they do with us people. She has always been on good quality dry food with extra veg and some chicken wings occasionally. Treats are natural things like tripe sticks, hooves etc. Exercise has been kept to softer ground when free running and not a lot of road walking. She also likes to splash through the ponds on our walks, so i think that helps, sometimes she will swim if the water is deep enough. The only extra to her diet are fish oil capsules, every day in winter but now it is warming up, only every other day or so.

If you just want to tidy her face and feet, ask your groomer to show you how to do it. This way you will trim the face the same way as the groomer and they won't have to fix the face each time they do a full groom, as you have followed someone elses way of doing things.

maybe the dog just caught a glance from the car and has just got a bit stiff and brusied, may have been moving OK the day before. Maybe the chap thought that an experienced dog person from the kennels would be able to help - who knows whether his local friends are 'dog people' and could cope with such a suggestion to help him out? maybe he can't wait for the next season to try as the bitch is getting older?? lots of things we don't know about this story! DOL people do seem to always enjoy looking to the bad and negative of people instead of thinking they may only have half the story. I agree with what Janba has been saying.

You could use a light slip lead and make a loop to place over the dogs nose so it works like a halty but then easily remove it for when your dog is stacked while the judge looks at the dog, then quickly loop it back over the nose for moving?

Laser Lites No More Stains - Anyone Used It?
becks replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is more blue on the label on the right with the correct stuff in it. I wonder if the label on the left has been scanned or copied in some way and someone has tried some dodgy dealing to put some stuff out there that doesn't work??? Money making scheme or to give bad advertising to Laser lites??
