  1. I wouldn't gauge a food on price or even on the word "premium". Science Diet is very pricey despite the majority of ingredients being cheap and nasty ;) Kirkland is really cheap despite the quality being nearly on par with its sister brand Taste of the Wild which is highly regarded. Great if you live near Costco.
  2. Ah that's great :) I really feel for those kids having their beloved pet stolen, regardless of the value of the dog.
  3. Yep, same same, the cat will just sit their steadfast and looking annoyed while the dog licks him all over - including in his ears. I'm surprised he puts up with it.
  4. That's why I said dogs that are under control. I don't think you can stipulate a dog has to conform to "clearly definied personality boundaries" before entering the park? Or that larger dogs don't have the right to be there if there are smaller dogs? Common sense is the key, and if you have concerns about your dog in the park then surely the best thing to do is go elsewhere. If I had issues with taking my dog to the park then I wouldn't, seems simple to me. I live near a dog park and a dog beach. I regularly see owners complaining to each other in the park, but never at the beach. Why is that?
  5. Just dug up this old video of my Border Collie Asta licking my cat. Still makes me laugh :)
  6. I'm kind of on your side Yonjuro, dogs can be boisterous at times and this is something I'd reasonably expect at a dog park with a number of dogs off a leash. The main thing is your dog isn't violent and he/she is under control. The park is for everyone to enjoy. Perhaps the older guy with the injured dog lives near by and his options are limited. It may not be easy for him to take the dog to other more secluded parks? Still, I think politeness goes a long way and he could've spoken to you in a more productive manner. Makes me think of a situation I've had at work recently (not dog related). I ride a motorbike and we have two designated car bays for motorcycle parking, 4 to a bay. Some guy with a huge moped was parking at the entrance of the bay preventing others from parking at the back of the bay. It really annoyed me for a while until I realised the moped owner was an older guy who would struggle maneuvering his weighty moped amongst other bikes. It's still annoying, but adds a different perspective.
  7. You should see my dog when the retic turns on :D :D :D Doggy craziness in action!
  8. I absolutely love the long exposure photo of the boats - that came out surprisingly well :) I worked in Rome many years ago. Such a beautiful and eventful city, but an absolute dump if you venture out  Like any big city I suppose... but I worked all over Europe and was impressed with Rome the least. I'd love to go back and see the rest of the country, some day.
  9. Hi Rolls, A dog can do well on any food, although with a poor quality food you run a greater risk of your dog getting sick or having problems in later life. Being aware of the quality and ingredients of a food you're feeding is a big step in the right direction. As said, some dogs take to a food and others don't. There may also be a period of adjustment if a dog is used to one food and then given something different. Personally I have a selection of dry foods that I feed my BC, and I chop and change. At the moment I'm feeding Earthborn, but also Canidae and Black Hawk of late. Perhaps this will be useful reading - http://www.petfoodreviews.com.au/dry-dog-food/best-dry-dog-food/ Thanks :)
  10. What a confusing thread. It's chaos in text. And I'll probably add to it just by posting  All the chopping and changing - not good. Pick a decent food, stick to it, give medication at the correct intervals, and let the dogs get into a stable routine. You'll never get to the bottom of this otherwise, whether it's allergies, parasites, medical condition. Kibble's are formulated to provide all necessary nutrients, so I recommend that as a simple diet. Stick with what you're using now if it's working. Stop feeding them anything else for a while. Stabalise. Side note: It's better for dogs to eat cat food than cats to eat dog food. Cats need more protein and taurine. Still, I wouldn't feed a dog cat food and can't imagine any vet suggesting that. They recommend Science Diet as the standard (and of course make money selling it). I hope you get to the bottom of it, and I hope the wellness of your dogs improves :)
  11. Are "Australian" Aberdeen Angus Australian or Scottish?
  12. Great, I'll do this from Hillarys as it's just up the road :) I went in a friends boat around Fraser Island a few years ago and the whales were everywhere. We could see them on the sonar right underneath us, and they were poling their heads out only meters away. It was scary with them so close (fear of them tipping the boat), but also very surreal and beautiful.
  13. Predators detect anxiety and fear... i.e. if there's a lion in the room it will more likely attack you if you show fear. Animals pick up on that stuff throughout the spectrum, from calmness to stress. Sixth sense perhaps? Or maybe dogs like people that smell of something... like food, other dogs, urine... who knows!?
  14. Yep, they brought out the Seafood recipe for cats a few weeks ago. I imagine they'll expand their grain free range for dogs and cats in due course, it's a bit limited as just chicken.
  15. Certainly looks tasty to me. I'd cook enough for both the dog and myself. Seriously. :)
  16. Wow, I should do that this year. How much does it cost? I've never seen whales from the shore in Perth.
  17. Lot's of dogs are intollerant of cheese so you may've had some diarrhea on your hands if they ate a lot of it. Otherwise it probably would've been fine.

    Humping

Mine humps her bed when she's excited. It's hilarious
  19. Stunning :) What camera/lens? I'm doing a botanic tour on Sunday, I'm inspired.
  20. There's some really sick people around. If they get caught I hope they get what they deserve. No words.
  21. I forgot to mention... when I ordered it on Booktopia it said they had stock, but then emailed me to say they didn't. I was given the choice to wait indefinitely until they had more available, or cancel the order. I said I'd wait...
  22. Great stuff, I'm glad the talking approach helped out! And I hope she walks her dog more in the future...
  23. Ah, that's a different matter entirely. But I agree that people who steal dogs should be dealt with severely.
