And this is the adorable rising star of Stommeerploder kennel in the Netherlands, she is called Lizzy and if I could I would fly over and steal her! I only recently discovered the LH version, but i was struck by the SH as a child at shows, though plenty intimidated at the time by the size. I was also gonna suggest the Clumber as something a bit different but then i saw the weight. I've mostly stumbled across these dogs researching for and with other people. It's always interesting to hear other peoples perspectives though. We went from a Great Dane to Tibetan Spaniels growing up. I'm familiar with Toys but the rest of the breeds are new and i'm happy to have my perceptions dispelled. This is the first meeting between the HWV and the welsh springer. Holly the HWV does not have much coat atm. In the pic she is around 12 weeks, no beard in sight! Should add both are pets, george probably doesn't have the greatest conformation in the world though he has a fab temperament. Gives you an idea of the coat au naturel though! I love Dobes Mon, but they are bigger than what I am after for my current situation. leopuppy04 Posted January 15, 2011 Share Posted January 15, 2011 Yeah, Lappies are becoming a popular 'pet' breed, but not so much as a performance dog... Which to be honest, I can 100% understand. They are a bit hit & miss with drive levels, etc and really, if you're looking for a performance dog, you don't want to have that much uncertainty about whether they will have enough drive. I have met some Lappies that act like they are stoned... Not a good starting point for an agility dog In saying that, there are lines that are more likely to produce a nutter, so they are out there.I was very lucky with Ahsoka! I was thinking bearded collie - although the hair may be to much - I know 2 here that do agility - super fast, super drivey and just great performance dogs (and you don't see too many of them), and they're not too big either!!!! I LOVE beardies!!!!!! Did you end up ruling Lappies out?Ooh what about a Pyr Shep!!!!!!!!! if you can't handle a WL mal I would rule out a Pyr Shep - these dogs are INSANE! And also are quite neurotic from what i've heard! TN - on the website of the lady who has imported - do we have any pics of them at all?? I don't know too many purebred ACDs, I actually don't know all that much about them. They are on my list of breeds to learn more about.TSD, Emmy sounds so lovely. I really enjoy reading your posts about her. Its a shame your further north. There is a lovely blue ACD going around the UD ring in Vic at the moment. I can't remember her name off the top of my head but she seems to be a good little worker. Have a look on YouTube for ACD's doing agility too. There are heaps of video of them doing it in the US, of all places. Decided now to wait a little as both current dogs have finally come to life and maybe in a year or 2 ? Too many lovely dogs to choose from. If I can't find a breed I would go rescue for me but you are faced with such a choice! I was looking at Brittany's as a choice, the ones I have met are social happy dogs with a big grin! And also a bench kelpie probably from Callicoma lines as I have a x bred kelpie now but he is really laid back. I would have said a swedish Valhund as they fit your description but you thought not. So I second the Brittany or the ESS. I Love the Musterlander but maybe harder to get hold of. Too many dogs, too little time! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You could also consider another dog sport with one too, Herding On that note, there is a couple of ACDs up here trialling in obedience but from memory they are all in lower levels but none of them are overly exceptional, there is however a Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog in UD that is doing wonderfully and is a really lovely little worker - they might be worth looking at Bec! Monah Posted January 15, 2011 Share Posted January 15, 2011 (edited) Large Musterlanders are lovely , but they are LARGE!! I thtink maybe too big for Huskis needs. ACDs do extremely well in dog sports, tracking, endurance, agility and flyball. Great all round dogs, don't wander, trustworthy and also terrific guard dogs, many people are wary of them. A well socialised (with other dogs) ACD, well bred, is absolutely delightful. Compact, no grooming, and very good looking too They are also very capable of being calm and patient (often gundogs need to be taught this ) and they are not clingy, like to be nearby but quite happy to sit outside for hours and just 'watch'. They grow up fast (mature quickly) where as some other breeds can take quite a while to behave in an adult manner. Mine 'brought up' the kids :D she was magic. I dont know if my cousin's dog is on youtube, Turbo from Cairns (female ) she's from ex. working lines. Might be on agility, but she does heaps of other stuff. smoothie girl, I LOVE your smooth collie!!!!!!!!!! But I have a few breeds to research into now and definitely need to speak to breeders and owners and meet a lot more of the dogs I'm considering.
