Kuma isn't fond of alfoil, especially when pulling it off the roll. Oh, and he is really not a fan of metal man hole covers. He won't walk on them, will always walk around them...

We have tried desensitizing him to the alfoil, and he is getting better I.e. He won't run out of the room when we pull the alfoil out of the draw!

Man hole covers, well... I think it stems from walking on them in a bitter frost a few mornings in a row so now he decides that his tootsies need not be frozen! I am not making a fuss about it and will only worry if he won't walk around them without difficulty.

Stan is scared of thunder but otherwise nothing much worries him.Maddie is pretty much nervy about the outside world. She loves a walk but if there's a lot of people around and I stop to talk to someone her head disappears under Stan. She's not keen on the car either.

Macey has recently become terrified of electronic beeping. She shakes and hides in the walkinrobe.

Flying - the minute she see's the airline crate go into the car that's the end of her.

Bob whilst in the car is scared of overhead bridges, roads etc on the freeway in particular. He can be sitting in the front seat and when he sees one overhead through the windscreen he ducks and hides down behind the seat.

He also hates to be walked in the dark. He's very suspicious of people (not normally) and acts like they are out to get him.

The fire alarm - when it start chirping for a battery change the dog freaks. This is at its worst at 2am when its chirping every now and again and the dog comes to wake you up as she is freaking out and jumping everytme it goes. Even when you kill the sound she's a nervous wreck for sometime.

Only time she freaked at a thunderstorm was when it took out foxtel so tv when quiet after this massive crack of thunder and then the dog next door let out this blood curling cry (horror movie style all three in sequence) and the dog tried to get comfort fro mme when I didn't react how she wanted she bolted upstairs to find OH to 'save' her. Left me to face the 'monster'

My dog hates traffic, ie any road with more than one car on it - or cars travelling in different directions. It's not the car itself she's frightned of, if there is one solo - she sometimes tries to greet it (ARGGHHH). It's when there are a few going way too fast (more than 30km/h). She doesn't like walking on footpaths either. Won't take treats or other distractions.

Bizarrely - she's not bothered by the giant trucks and earth moving machines on Victoria Park at the moment but freaks out when we get near Fullarton Road (2 lanes each way and busy). If I want to walk around that side I have to put her on lead well before we get there.

I could try desensitising her to busy roads but I think maybe being afraid of them and prefering to stay away is a good thing. Only one problem is if she does decide she must cross one, she waits for the first car to go by and then tries to bolt.

Bruno is disturbed by brooms and whole pumpkins. Yes, pumpkins. :o

He is a dog who can go for days without barking even once. We certainly hear about it when he is confronting a pumpkin or a broom though.

I'm thinking of putting a warning sign up on our door at Halloween.

He is not phased by anything normal (thunder, loud traffic etc.) Oh, he's not keen on buckets either. Funny boy.....

Hoover is kind of fearless. He's a bit wary during early morning walks when cars come rushing towards us from the darkness with headlights on, but that's understandable. Other than that he shows no fear and seems very curious about everything.

Elbie on the other hand is a very different dog. He is afraid of so many things, but he's interesting because in time, he gets over them.

1. He doesn't like ceiling fans, but despite that he'll still come into a room with one - although he shoots wary glances up at the ceiling from time to time

2. He used to be very scared of the electric hand mixer and run in and out of the room or hide under OH's desk - but I bake a lot so we ignored him and now he doesn't care at all if he hears the mixer.

3. When the dog walk was raised to full height at agility, he seemed afraid of it and wouldn't go on it - just around it. But that night, just as I was going to give up on for the night, he ran over it and has been fine ever since.

4. He used to be afraid of the handheld Dyson but we just ignored him and kept using it so now he's fine with it.

His Nemesis, an object of which he remains afraid is the

- he barks at it like crazy, but who can blame him? :p Edited by koalathebear

Flags and balloons and sailing boats. She was once attacked by a shiny red heart balloon outside a florist on a windy Valentines Day - she bravely grappled it to the ground, pounced on it and killed it to the delight of the passersby but the dismay of the florist who asked me to pay for it. The flags and sailing boats I am sure are connected - she does not like the sound of the wind flapping them or the clink of the metal fittings. I just try and avoid all three things.

Charlie- Nothing.

Emmy - people (big and small), if she stands on a moving object (car, skateboard, stroller), going for walks at the night time (i think she is afraid of the dark).

Emmy is prone to anxiety so if something out of routine happens, she gets really unsure and react towards it. I usually give her time to get her bearings and let her figure things out for herself. If she doesn't settle, that's when I step in and take her away and do some desensitising work with her or distract her her.

Oh goodness, which Sasha, where do I start??? Just today, I've dealt with her horror of the foil balloon attached to my anniversary flowers, and the iron... both of which have her terrified.

For the balloon, I just sit in the bedroom, call her in and just spend time in there with her, showing her it's okay. If she watches the balloon too much, I just say 'it's alright' in a firm tone, and she'll stop (that's my remedy for most things that scare her, and most things DO scare her - and she'll usually settle down). For the iron, I just try not to make a big deal about it, but generally just let her go and hide somewhere, she's hopeless if she sees me with the iron, especially if it's steaming.

Generally, I try to spend time near or around the item that instills terror, to show her that it's fine. I find repetition and routine to be the winner in solving her issues. She used to be terrified to walk along the path in front of our local shopping centre... but after many goes, repeating it, she improved over and over to the point where she'll happily walk through the busy path and entrance to the centre now.

She will now go onto my bed near where the balloon is, but if I go out of the room, she may stay in there a good while, but if it moves slightly or she thinks it's become possessed in anyway she's outta there like a rocket

Akira had a slow start to socialisation, especially inside. Hence she's really scared of the microwave and buses (buses because she got a big fright thanks to one in her second fear period and still isn't over it). Everything else we've more or less gotten her over - the heater, the vacuum cleaner, the washing machine, men - though she still sometimes reverts to her old ways for a few minutes until she realises she doesn't have to be scared of it anymore.

Halo only takes offence to Alaskan Malamutes. I think one scared her in her first fear period, and now she just doesn't like them. She barks and barks and barks until she's decided she's told them she's boss, then she's best friends with them. She's more than happy to play with the Malamute in her obedience class, but she has to tell him she's the boss first. I can't work out how to get her to stop it yet because we've done lots of desensitisation with friendly mallies, yet she still does it to start with.

Have we met at Grange beach once? :)

Spudd has been taken for walks since he was about 15 weeks old and never used to be scared of any thing, it's like his fear comes and goes.. I only noticed it a few weeks ago that he is scared of loud cars again..

Don't think so, I've never taken the dogs to Grange - only Semaphore and Port Clinton. Should take them down there some time though, because my cousins live there. :)

Maggie doesn't like thunder, balloons and Morris dancers. The thunder and balloons make loud noises not unlike a cocky with a gun of which we have a few around here! The Morris dancers sometimes have sticks that they hit each other with. She is not fond of cats or JRTS also.

James is scared of stairs. That's about it, really - he's the kind of dog that pops balloons for fun (seriously), so none of the loud noise phobias here.

I'm not overly fussed about the stairs issue since seeing him go up and down solid concrete stairs whilst out and about. The internal stairs, I know now, are too slippery for him to go down. I do wish he'd get over the external stairs though; they're not slippery, he's just a scaredy cat.

New floor surfaces.

Kaos as well! I had to carry her once, we were out walking and i needed to pee.. she hates new tiles and i had to carry her in so i could go to the loo

She also is scared of other dogs and balloons. she LOVES dads remote cars, tries to chase them and kill them - but scared of tiles?

Oh, she also tried to save me and Rastus Froggy a few years ago from a lifesized dancing Santa... she was scared of it so went nuts at it, and then kept looking behind her growling to keep it away

Atlas hates big trucks and crowds and scooters. I wont allow a group of people pat him, they have to do it 2 at a time. he also hates getting his nails cut.. but has a good reason for that fear

Life

That's probably not fair  - he's easy to startle at things like a dropped pot lid and will take himself into another room when I vacuum. However he recovers quickly and does not always react. He's cautious about new surfaces, stairs etc but he will generally always tackle it - albeit with caution.

Funnily enough, storms don't bother him!
