The photo is before I made it higher but see on the right hand side I've sort of looped it back on itself to fill the gap between the gate and the part that attaches to the wall. Well they've figured out they can push through that bit. I'll just have to hope that soon they'll be too big to fit, although I suspect Secret/Inky will be able to fit through even when she's fully grown, she's so tiny. Kirislin Posted March 13, 2016 Author Share Posted March 13, 2016 the screen would be good except I go in and out umpteem times a day and it would get a bit tedious having to move it. The cardboard might work. I'll see if I need it. Marcus might be able to rig the door up with more gutter guard to be a bit stiffer and harder to push past. As of late yesterday the puppies world has been made a whole lot bigger anyway. Marcus made the gates that lead to the driveway and paddock alot safer. Well they are safe as they are in general, but tiny puppies could squeeze through the gaps that whippets and Neko couldn't. Now that they are secure we let the puppies into the front yard. They had a ball and Neko got very excited that her babies were there too and started doing crazy runs, which looked pretty funny with her boobies flapping in the breeze. I suspect today will be a big day for them as I'll let them out once it's daylight and warmed up a bit. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I promise you I was watching carefully, and surprisingly so was my wonderful Tag, making sure Neko didn't get too rough. He would block her with his head if he thought she was overdoing it. What she's doing is a normal part of puppy socialising and development. I suspect it's something that puppies taken away too early from their mum and siblings miss out on, and maybe it accounts for some of the problem dogs we have these days, I dont know. Yes they are, but I think I'm even more amazed with my darling Tag. He hasn't been a father and hasn't had anything to do with tiny puppies before and yet he is instinctively protective of them. His behaviour of calming and stepping in to deflect excitement or aggression has happened before, and I got it on camera back then too. A couple of years ago we were at an IGGY fun day and Arkey was being chased by a rambunctious IG. He took a fall and sat up dazed and Tag immediately rushed in and just bent his body around Arkey to block the other dog. Puck then came over as back up. Neither were aggressive towards the other dog but I could clearly see they were protecting Arkey. I'm so proud of them. Here's the pics, look at their body language. One day he wanted boobie, and she didn't want to give him any, so he had a go at her - to which she responded by chasing him around and knocking him down and telling him off in no uncertain terms. Each time he was rolled, he fought back... and she kept doing it until he didn't fight back. It was pretty ferocious stuff, and she wasn't being any too gentle about it - but eventually he got the idea and settled down to behaving properly. Watching how dogs deal with naughty/cheeky pups is so educational - no pups are usually hurt in the process, but sometimes the little ones can scream like they are being killed... lol! T. I like to try to capture dogs as they are. I almost never set a photo up, unless it's Marcus asking for something, like the calendar photo he wanted. I always tell him Puck's saying "you're not the boss of me" Zeddy and Trouble were the best foster helper mums for all the rescue pups that came through here... all the pups turned out pretty darned good under their tutelage... lol! Trouble taught them how to dig holes in the lawn - Pickles was Miss Tittle-tat about that - and Zeddy taught them good doggy manners by only putting up with so much before she flattened them... hehe! Harper only got to help with a few fosters, but she was the best big sister ever... for such a big girl, she can be incredibly gentle with the little ones... T. He bites her teats and if he keeps it up he will force her to wean them because of it. When she jumps away in pain HE tells her off! A few days ago I saw the very first time she tried to rough him up as part of teaching puppy manners. He growled at her and because she's not the toughest thing I saw she was clearly taken aback and unfortunately didn't put him in his place. Well she's still got a few tricks up her sleeve. Today I saw her enlist the help of the 'uncles', the whippet brothers Tag and Puck. She tried again to discipline Mr Fat and once again he had a go at her, so she started to do crazy runs around and around the yard, being really silly. When she got Tag and Pucks attention she diverted them to Mr Fat. She ran past him and sort of pounced but encouraged Tag and Puck to chase him. He wasn't so tough with them and started to squeal and run. It was just the upper hand she needed and then she chased him all the way back to the little puppy yard. I hope it lasts.
