  1. love your photo's, certainly gave me a giggle. Can you tell me where you bought their "Bath". I have been looking in toy shops for plastic baths with no success.
  2. I am not fussed either way, however we did buy a girl dog because we only had male non fur children and I wanted to use the "girl" name I had always loved. Girl dogs hump as well and our girl could cock her leg with the best of them.
  3. we left our dog at a kennel for two days, this gave us time to move and check the fences, set up and cope with primary aged children. If you are concerned about the peeing on the carpet upstairs put a kid/dog proof fence across. Our dogs sleep upstairs at night with us but when we come downstairs in the morning the fence is put in place. Everything will be fine, enjoy your new place
  4. My dog used to "pant and pace" at the vets, almost worst than a thunderstorm. I also had to put a muzzle on her when we were in the room, the vet couldn't get near her until head was safely tucked under my arm - she was about 6kg JRT. She would also cling to me like a koala if I picked her up.
  5. sounds like a typical JRT, we have two and I tell people if you like 3-4 kids that push the boundaries ALL the time then you could cope with a JRT, they can be quite demanding, you just need to work out which punishment is best, my old girl hated having eye contact withdrawn and could hold a grudge for weeks. We recently adopted a JRT female and she is very naughty but I am learning her signals and she is learning our household routine. Wouldn't have it any other way, but not a dog for everyone.
  6. Yep, we are having trouble with plovers at the moment, thankfully the Magpies in our area don't bother us. On dogs catching birds, my JRT caught a racing pigeon a few years ago. I had to ring the association and report the number of the bird, it was only about 2km from it's roost. The owner wanted to come and collect the bird but I told them I just found it in the yard and put it in the bin because the kids were upset. I didn't want them to see how mangled it was and that it was caught in flight.
  7. loved the dogs playing, where did you buy the tunnels? I have been looking as I think one of my jacks might like to play with something like that
  8. Yes - have done before (400km round trip) Yes - I like to see that parents, watch their temperament and interaction with the humans and pups (spent probably 90 mins with the breeder) Yes - I will not support puppy farms, check that the pup has lived in a cleaned environment and not likely to carry disease
  9. our dogs get greek yoghurt on their dinner every night to help with gut flora
  10. Hmm, we carried fresh meat out to the BBQ and that was all it took for ours to use the door. With the next one, as mentioned above, treats on either side of the door and they learnt in no time.
  11. We have just acquired a rough coat after having two smooth coats, I do find she needs more grooming but that can be an excuse for cuddles and kisses. She is two years old and had not been house trained, she has settled in pretty well and acts the same as the smooth coats with the exception of being an escape artist, however coming from a farm to a house she thinks our yard is too small. I would highly recommend one of each, that way they can keep each other company.
  12. Boags because he can't get away with anything, if he has been naughty he will not look at me and hides his head Tilly because she is so affectionate and loving, even when she has been naughty - I never have to guess which is the guilty pup
  13. I have two JRT's, when we go for a walk we know which other dogs are friendly and which to avoid, if we have do see a dog we haven't met before I will check the owners body language and their dogs body language before deciding whether to stop and talk. I pull my dogs leads tighter in to my sides and keep my dogs walking while talking calmly to the them to distract them from barking and leaping at the other dog/s. My 9 year old ignores other dogs unless he knows them and the two year is a rescue we have had for only a few months and therefore I am not yet sure of her behaviour although she does appear reactive. There are two blue cattle dogs that we cross the street away from and two huskies that we will change direction to avoid passing. I love all breeds of dogs and if walking by myself I will stop and ask to pat any dog if the dog is looking at me with "pat me eyes" and a dopey grin.
  14. I came on this site this morning after reading more about the plane shot down and the lives lost, I needed a dose of cute and cuddly, thank you for this thread, it was just what I needed. My own two greeted me this morning but are now tucked up in bed wrapped in blankets.
  15. we have recently been given a two year old female JRT with amazing pedigree because she wouldn't leave chickens alone. She is now trying to work out how to escape to a house a few doors away that has chickens. Thankfully their yard is very secure especially as we are replacing our fences.
  16. one of mine would run to the front door and bark, the other would come to see what the fuss was about and the other would run back and claim the bed closest to the heater
  17. thanks, that clip has made my morning
  18. need a "like" button for all these wonderful photos
  19. Does your husband feed Scottie? if Scottie knows that hubby is in charge of the food he will probably listen to him better.
  20. You could spray your dog with Apple Cider vinegar, this keeps the fleas off the dog
  21. Hi there We have had smooth coat JRTs that shed hair constantly, regardless of regular brushing, I am wondering if broken coat JRTs shed as much? Is their grooming any different, what would be the best type of brush to use? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as we would like our next JRT to have a broken coat? thank you
  22. Our 15 year old female JRT does zoomies after her bath - out through the dog door, down to back fence, back through dog door, through laundry, hall way, jumps on one of her beds, then back through the dog door again, generally 3 or 4 times while I wash the other dog then they play bitey face until i take them for a walk until they are dry
  23. you can also try bathing the area in apple cider vinegar, this will hopefully kill off any underlying yeast infection. I would try to bathe the area with the apple cider vinegar and then the medi pulv
  24. my female JRT does this generally when i am standing at the kitchen sink, i think it is her way of having time alone with me as it is the only time i am still. she is not generally an affectionate dog, doesn't like being picked up, doesn't sit near us at night. She doesn't get fed treats while I am washing up and I think it is just - "Hey I am here and I am happy just to have contact"
