I know I'm probably preaching to the converted here, but just wanted to remind people of the consequences of having an unsecured dog in the car. I was coming up to lights at a crossroad yesterday just as they turned red, so luckily was slowing down anyway. The car in front of me was the last one through and about 30m in front of me. I saw what I initially thought was a coat fall out of the side window, but then my brain kicked in and realised a dog had fallen from the car!! They would have been going about 20-30kms/hr I guess at the time. I put my hazards on and stopped my car, leapt out and stopped the traffic in the lane next to me as well, and had my heart in my mouth while the dog dodged traffic coming across from the other direction! Somehow he made it to me without being hit and looked so relieved to be off the road. The person eventually got to me from the car and was so thankful and said he had just learnt how to open the window! He was a gorgeous staffie/Am staff type boy and mostly looked ok. He wasn't putting weight on one rear leg, so I suggested an immediate trip to the vet, and a harness to secure him in the car in future! I hope he is ok It was such a shock to see! Not one other person bothered to stop and try to help though

Anal Glands Randomly Expressing
CrazyCresties replied to minimax's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Daisy had ongoing anal gland issues. She is raw fed, has nice firm bulky poo's, but they just don't express naturally. The vet said in smaller dogs they can often be in an position that isn't conducive to being naturally expressed. She also does the "running away from her poop" thing. I was expressing them myself for a while, every few weeks, but she was regularly getting irritated by them and started licking and chewing her butt. A course of AB's helped a bit, but then they flared up again so she had them flushed and packed under sedation and they have been soooo much better since then! I would be very reluctant to go for the removal option, but the flush and pack has really helped her :) Good luck with Max! -
I'm so sorry ash, but glad you got closure RIP little Smudge.

Absolutely beautiful both the pups and your pics :) -
Are you sure it was a baby snake? When we first moved into our house I found a small 'earless skink' indoors that freaked me out until I looked closer! I have since seen them a few times when gardening. They have tiny little legs that can be hard to spot sometime :) https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1117&bih=630&q=earless+skink&oq=earless+skink&gs_l=img.3...3800.9498.0.10369.13.9.0.4.4.0.241.2007.2-9.9.0....0...1ac.1.24.img..4.9.2004.lemmMLnb32U http://www.aussiepythons.com/forum/field-herping-reptile-studies-5373/photo-guide-australian-lizards-pt3-113111/

Out of curiosity what is the 'natural product' your friend is using for an auto-immune condition?

I took Louis for his first outing in a while yesterday to a cafe, and while it was warm enough to have him naked, I left him with a thin pair of pj's on as he looks so scrawny at the moment All the best for Hamish, have you come across this group yet? It's for IMHA but I believe IMT is treated in the same way? https://www.facebook.com/groups/6228146980/ There are some very knowledgeable and helpful people on there when it comes to managing and treating this :)

No wonder you couldn't stay away Just adorable and gorgeous shots too :) -
Hi Cat, sounds like you're in a similar boat to me Louis was diagnosed just over two months ago with IMHA and started on a high dose of pred, 40mg day. Along with the condition, it completely knocked him sideways. I started seeing muscle wastage after a couple of weeks, along with the hunger and the thirst and constant peeing. Atopica (cyclosporine) was added, and after 3 weeks we started to reduce the pred. The thirst reduced immediately and we have steadily reduced it to the 7.5mg a day that he is on now. I think once we got down to about 15 mg a day I started to see a slow down in the muscle wastage. His thighs and shoulders got very skinny and I was starting to feel his spine - the worst is the 'pred head' where his temporal muscles above the eyes have gone, and I understand they don't usually come back. Now he has got a good covering back on his spine and thighs, but his shoulders are still quite skinny, but he has a lot more strength back as well :) Unfortunately the hunger seems to be worse, but I think that is because he feels so much better in himself and he has the energy to 'scrounge'. I've been feeding him a bit extra, but also splitting it into more frequent smaller meals. How much pred is Hamish on at the moment? It's horrible seeing like this isn't it

Bless, they look pooped :)

Nice shots FM, let's see some more :D A colourful one from me - I suspect an escaped pet as I think it's a King Parrot which are from the east coast and not WA? It was in a tree in our garden this evening and just got a few shots before it flew off :)

Wa Woman Offers $20,000 Reward For Missing Dogs
CrazyCresties replied to Red Fox's topic in In The News
I've seen the 'lost' ads around for these two - poor woman I hope she gets some closure one way or another -
I think it was Frodo's mum who mentioned recently we should maybe start a 'Bird' photo thread as there are a few of us taking bird shots, so here it is :D I look forward to seeing everyone's additions to the thread :) I'll kick it off with some shots of the Short-billed, or Carnaby's Black Cockatoo, which we have been privileged to have hanging around where I live a lot recently. I just love these birds, their call makes my heart sing :) http://www.wwf.org.au/our_work/saving_the_natural_world/wildlife_and_habitats/australian_priority_species/black_cockatoos/carnabys_black_cockatoos/ Full set here http://flic.kr/s/aHsjH6PkVD :)
