  1. Yes! There's no doubt people need to be fully aware of what a 'working type' is, but the majority of friends who had them in Scotland had them as pets with few issues. Although over there we had much more dog friendly space for them to exercise on, beaches and forests etc. We would often meet up in the forest with 15-20 spaniels, a greyhound and two cresties  Fargo was so laid back indoors, but in top gear once outside, and the tail never stopped wagging as in this video
  2. Yes they did sell puppies in there, so glad to hear it is closing.
  3. Before moving over here I was the proud owner of a working type cocker - he was such an awesome dog! I met a wide variety of workers while living in Scotland, from the small wiry 'pocket rockets', to the larger solid ones like my Fargo. They come in such a wide range of temperaments too, from the non-stop crazies, to ones that do have an 'off' switch  A common factor seemed to be the endless enthusiasm and keenness. I was lucky with Fargo, I got him at 15 weeks and was pretty naive about dog ownership, but had moved to the countryside in Scotland and wanted a dog He was a perfect puppy, pretty much toilet trained from the word go, well socialised and a perfect temperament. He grew into a gorgeous boy and we had so much fun together. He grew from this... to this More pics here with a variety of hair styles  http://s189.photobucket.com/user/screamingswifts/slideshow/Fargo This is a large cocker forum in the UK that may be useful for you. http://www.cockersonline.co.uk/discuss/ Good luck Luke, they are fantastic dogs :)
  4. I saw that on fb too - what a lovely tribute :)
  5. All the best for Jenna tomorrow teekay, fingers crossed it's just a harmless cyst
  6. Lovely to see a grown up photo of Maya, I loved her puppy pics and she has grown into a beautiful adult Leo is just stunning too! Now, where are the rest of your crazy gang
  7. It shouldn't have to Totally agree. I was wincing watching his spine flailing around like that Poor little mite should have been euthanised at birth. If this woman runs a rescue, surely the money spent on the pup would have helped so many other dogs Looks like he has a cart and is adapting to it slowly. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2515483/Duncan-Lou-Who-Worlds-fastest-dog-legs-Duncan-Lou-gets-wheelchair-cart-friend-Ducky-around.html
  8. Ptolomy - we got some a couple of months back from the Pet Lover's Cafe in Guildford :) http://petloverscafe.com/ http://shop.petloverscafe.com/deer-antler/dp/5768
  9. Hugs RV, he was a special boy
  10. Jeez some people are so easily offended, how do they cope living in the real world? Gorgeous as usual, she is such a delicate beauty
  11. Thanks AP and Mim :) There were a few rescue cats there, but they did seem pretty relaxed and enjoyed a scratch behind the ear from me :) Mim - I got the 1kg bag of frozen tripe and it was $13.99. It does smell, but not nearly as much as the stuff I used to get back home. It comes in neat frozen pellets and I fed it still slightly frozen and the smell was ok. I saw with the freeze dried one you should reconstitute it in warm water - I wouldn't like to smell that one!!
  12. I got the frozen one tonight and the dogs were like 'OMG Tripe!!, we haven't had this for years'
  13. Thanks espinay, they are open till 7pm so I might pop in tonight and have a nosey :)
  14. When we moved here for an unexpected work relocation from the UK, re-homing two of the dogs was the hardest, most stressful part of the whole process We found pretty much perfect homes for them, and both sets of new owners said we could visit before we left for Oz, but we didn't think it would be fair on the dogs. They needed to be left to settle without any confusion. Don't underestimate the emotional toil, it was very hard knowing they were alive and well and not too far away, but not able to see them for the few months we still lived there
  15. Andy Pandy - what is Pet Barn like, similar to City Farmers? Do they sell puppies and kittens as I wouldn't want to go in there if they did? I noticed a new store in Osborne Park so might pop in and look at the tripe - use to feed it all the time in the UK.
  16. If you haven't seen them already, maybe try these two threads? http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/179480-british-bulldog/ http://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/109468-british-bulldog/
  17. Yes that is a much better idea :) I haven't stepped foot inside a pet shop that sells puppies and kittens yet, I would find it so hard to walk out empty handed and that's what they are banking on Luckily we have a great independent store near us that will not sell them. Thanks for all your responses :)
  18. Yup HW I'm fully aware of what happens whilst they are there, it was the 'unsold' bit I was curious about. I couldn't agree more about totally banning them, I was shocked to see pups/kittens for sale in pet shops when I moved here 3yrs ago - you just don't really see that in the UK anymore. Of course that doesn't mean puppy farms don't exist there, they just find other outlets Also having two rescues, both with social issues due to lack of socialization as pups, I know how long a lasting effect it can have on them
  19. There's one near me and I keep looking on their website - I shouldn't as all it does is annoy me, but they've currently got Brittanys, Tibbies and Vizsla x Labs The Brittanys have been there two weeks - can't imagine what that does to their development
  20. ....that aren't sold? As tempting as it is to go 'rescue' some of them, I know enough not to. But it got me thinking about what happens to 'surplus stock' that get too old and lose the cute factor?
  21. Louis had his monthly follow up check last night with the ophthalmologist, and great news - the pressure is normal in both eyes, 19 in one and 18 in the other We're to keep up with the eye drops and he wants to see him again in another 6 months. So happy for my little buddy boy :D
