I always seem to recommend these guys :) but honestly the collars I have for my two are the softest leather ever! They are made from Italian calf leather and were so soft from the start. I chose the 'greyhound' style for them and they can custom make to order. http://www.hollyandlil.co.uk/all-at-a-glance-12-w.asp I have had the collars for nearly 5 years now and they are still beautiful :)

That's very good news If a course of pred has been administered in high doses, then it is important not to withdraw too quickly, a slow wean off is recommended. In terms of side effects from pred I can only give you experience from Louis. He weighed 10kg and was on 40mg/day to start with. He lost weight, had muscle wastage all over, but especially on his hind legs and head temporal area, general weakness and a seriously increased thirst and as a result, frequent urination BUT it saved his life while the Atopica kicked in and the very high dose was reduced after about 3 weeks. After that it took 5 months to wean him off the pred. All visible side effects of the pred have now gone, his muscles wastage reversed and even his 'pred head' is pretty much normal now :) All the best for Rocky :)

Milk Thistle What Brand And Dose
CrazyCresties replied to SueM's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Also look into SAMe, along with milk thistle I believe that really helped bring Louis liver levels down when he was on his high pred dose. If you get the type with the enteric coating, you should break the tablet up before dosing though. -
Thanks for the update Lakey - all the best for the results tomorrow

Thanks OSO - just found this in the link Roova posted, so it sounds about right. :) Thanks Roova, good link :) It was the whole oats I was thinking of that he mentions here. http://www.vetsallnatural.com.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56&Itemid=71

Unfortunately it's not - try shooting a small flighty bird in the wild with a 400mm, even on a crop you just don't have the reach.

I'm just soaking some of this to try for the first time - I have a kilo of roo meat and calculated I should add about 330g of complete mix in with it (after soaking in 330ml of water). Does that sound about right? It looks like I will end up with a mix with a lot of grain in it. I know it is designed to pass through them and not be digested, but it still looks like a lot I have been feeding Louis the RAW 76 packs for the past weeks or so and he is loving those, but thought I would try the complete mix and meat too.

Best/ Worst Dog Treats And Chews
CrazyCresties replied to JenniCB's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Fantastic! I was just about to post to ask if anyone knows of an Australian make of sweet potato treats. I have tried making my own a few times, but they either come out too dry and crunchy, or too soft - it's easier to buy sometimes  I need low fat treat though as Louis has pancreatitis, so which of yours would be less than 6% fat? -
Willow is gorgeous MM and thoroughly enjoying herself :D Nawww look at your little one buried in the sand Alibi

Absolutely adorable!! Every time I see one of these I get a bit more curious about them :)

I've seen some pretty awesome shots from the 150-600mm lens, I think a lot of it is knowing how to get your exposure right and how to handle a lens of that focal length. I fully expect to bin most shots at 600mm when I first start using it  Also I will be shooting wild birds and 400mm is too short for a 'birding' lens :)
-
Time to give this thread a bit of a bump :) These are both shots I've put in the 52 weeks thread, but thought it would be nice to see what other bird shots anyone else has got recently. Also if I get my paws on the new Tamron 150-600mm, I expect a lot of my subjects will be birds :)

Not wishing to scare you but my Louis has just pulled through 8 months of treatment for Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA), which at it's most basic is destruction of the red blood cells in the blood. Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (IMT) is I believe similar except that the platelets are destroyed in the blood, not the red blood cells. Treatment for both are very similar, high doses of pred and other immune suppressant drugs - Atopica in Louis's case. Your boy isn't showing any other symptoms, so hopefully it isn't - but it's worth knowing about these conditions. Louis went downhill very rapidly, very lethagic and listless. The pred knocked him for six at the initial high doses, but it also saved him until the Atopica kicked in. As Steve said, keep him stress free and away from other dogs until you know more about what is going on. All the best for your boy, and keep us updated :)

Yes they are an acquired taste and some people just find them too strange  He may look odd, but with suitable clothing on he would happily run round a forest in Scotland for a couple of hours with 15 spaniels! He skin is pretty good, I usually just wash him about once a week - this time of year just under the hose outside, and put a bit of coconut oil on him.

Nope, not true. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/inside-natures-giants/articles/all/the-making-of-inside-natures-giants

So I'm guessing that no one expressing their horror at people viewing the dissection watched any of the shows 'Inside Nature's Giants' when it was aired over here? http://www.channel4.com/programmes/inside-natures-giants I'm certainly not saying I agree with the breeding of him to start with, or not having found an alternative to euthanasia, but I know as a child/younger person I would have found the dissection fascinating - does that make me a morbid freak

Nawww love little Pippa :D HazyWal - I have a similar shot :) My little ones love going to the beach, but try to avoid the water! These are from Scotland - they were not happy at being in a pool  Louis slamming on the breaks as he is about to hit water! Love this one of Daisy chasing Frida  And my cocker just loved the water!
