  1. If they only moved in yesterday, and are doing something about it straight away, why go any further.? The dog growled at you, yes scary, but if he had wanted to attack you or your dog he would have. Perhaps dropping by to express your concerns would be better.
  2. I am constantly asked why i have a pitbull with children ( she is a BT) In fact my neighbours built their house 6 months ago , and due to their excavation ,there is now a 6ins gap on top of my 4foot retaining wall, between my retaining wall and a 6 ft wooden fence.Interestingly they have done nothing about it for all this time, yesterday bricks were shoved in the hole. He is the local pastor with 4 kids, and has told me kids should not be near dogs. Wonder how long it will be before i get a visit from the ranger about my "pitbull". ;) Back on topic, i thinks its because most attacks are crosses, and BTs are very people friendly.
  3. i think not snopaws ;)
  4. Sorry, but he looks just like any other mutt from the pound. Everything from his shape to coat texture is wrong. The other one looks like a mastiff,x RR x, or who knows what. You were ripped off. He is a crossbreed of unknown heritage, may not even have been his parents you saw.
  5. Firstly pitbulls were not bred to fight people! The dog was a xbreed. I have owned 3 pits, and currently own a Bull breed( one that i am constantly asked if she is a pit). Whats the answer, no idea, ban the breed? Bad owners move onto another breed. I am scared for my breed right now. It seems over the years dogs have been removed from our society, we are so restricted as to where they can go, that non dog owners seem unaware about how they should behave around them. Perhaps a mandatory course with a good trainer is a must if you wish to own certain dogs?( or all?). And i loved the music in the pit video ;)
  6. Waiting 2 months to see Steve is worth it. :D One thing to consider, he maybe sitting politely to ask for affection, but he is still demanding it, if you didn't give it would it escalate to jumping up ,etc. ? Make sure you do stuff on your terms, start teaching him to walk onlead properly. Try and relax and enjoy him, but don't pander to him so much, and get on the wait list
  7. Don't ask for advice, then find it offensive then. At no point did you say you were getting help. In fact you said you hoped it was a "one off" and would watch more closely, doesn't sound to me like you are seeking help. Why bother asking for advice, then ignore it, or did you just not hear what you wanted?
  8. Dogs don't snap for no reason, there would have been warning signs, perhaps so subtle you missed them. With children involved, why would you not seek professional help, or are you waiting till contact is made? There will be a next time.
  9. I love the PWD, how cute! More likely to be a dd mix i reckon. Would googling it come up?

  11. If you go to a really good rescue they will match your dog.( not all rescue's are good). You get time to see how they settle, and the dog can be returned if it doesn't work out. Getting a mature dog from a breeder as suggested can be good too, but beware, not all are socialised etc, some are kept in runs until they are no use anymore.so have no idea of the real world.(
  12. I found it really interesting, thankyou for posting it, i will be showing my kids it tonight. Wasn't brave enought to watch the youg gsd, i could see his ears were back and he was licking, so new what he was about to do.
  13. Can you put the crate where they can't get at it? I would be keeping them out of it now, so they don't think its theirs to play with. The dog needs to feel safe in the crate, somewhere it can go for some peace, not to be poked at etc Perhaps a blanket over it with the edges wedged underneath so it can't be lifted off. Pups sleep alot, so give the pup plenty of time to rest.
  14. My BT does it too if we do road work, she hates it! She doesn't just sit though, she throws herself onto the ground laying on her side, not an easy dog to move I have found dropping the lead and walking on works, but i can't do it on a busy road, so avoid them. I have a trainer comming next week, and its one of the things i am going to mention.very embarassing standing on the side of the road with a dog that refuses to move.
  15. Why don't they just board them for 4 weeks? foster carer's are busy with taking dogs from pounds, they are not petsitters.
  16. would like to go to sydney too, will go look :D
  17. I have a really big one, different design to that one, i can't rememnber the brand, and am not home atm, but i have have seen some on ebay like that. The petshop at Seven hills can get them in too, as i was thinking of getting another one. If you can wait till sunday i will look at mine and post a pic. I love it ,mine can fit at least 2 big dogs in snuggled up.
  18. Wait till he comes to see what suits him, i got an adult bully from a breeder, and didn't like her name, she didn't respond to it anyway. I had a few names i liked before she arrived, but none suited her, took us a couple of days till we came up with a name she responded to. :D
  19. Great pics ,i am always envious of your dogs walking places! is it your land?
  20. i would just offer support, tell her to try and find a good groomer, and a trip to the vets to check ears etc, you could say as the old owner wasn't that good, perhaps she should just get the dog checked. it may well be pure, just badly bred.
  21. I have a friend who has a BB, and i was surprised, the dog is taller ,fitter, and although i can hear him snorting from up the street, is very healthy. However there is a guy round the corner from me, who breeds AB's, and his are much shorter and broader and don't breathe well, and one tried to bloody well bite me! i just can't see the point in them .
  22. My cattle x is from the pound, and when he wants another dog to play he play bows snapping the air , it could well be a breed trait you can do nothing about. The same could be said for the wary behavoir around strangers if she had RR in her. The jumping up on you could be she is uncomfortable around other dogs with no manners and is comming to you for help?
  23. That video is very worrying she is very dominant, she is not chasing him to play, she i sending him away he is being submissive, for now.You need help now if you care about Astro, remove her ,he is a lovely looking boy, don't risk him.You have been told who to contact, di it
  24. I have to feed my dally a low purine diet, and i used to have a BT who had skin problems, i fed Optimum with great success, i used to feed Supercoat sensitive until they stopped selling the big bags.I am currently trying more expensive food, as i thought i wasn't doing the best for my dogs giving them optimum, but have to say they are not doing aswell on it(Artemis, runny poo's alot, and hungry all the time) so i am seriously thinking about going back to Optimum.
