  9. When you encounter a group of people on the beach call him to you then clip on his lead. Praise him then if someone asks to pat him they can only do so when he is on lead. If he gets to people first tell him no and make him come to you or take his collar and clip the lead on even if it is for a 30 second pat or until you have gone past the group. He will learn over time that he only gets introduced and pats / attention from people when he is on leash.
  10. Sorry this happened to you.If someone bailed me up and threatened me like those dreadful women i would tell them i am calling the police, Best to call dogs back and not let them go up to people and other dogs until you are sure they are fine with it and friendly. Dog owners need to learn the body language of dogs and people to help avoid trouble. Do not let this bad day spoil your enjoyment of the beach.
  11. Years ago i had a neighbor who had 15 odd cats all breeding away . I was told by the young boy who lived there that his sister would drown the kittens and bury them, My dog got into her yard and would dig them up and bring them to our back door. Other neighbors and i called the RSPCA ;Meanwhile one mother cat was in our yard and ran off from me leaving behind a tiny kitten.I took the kitten to the Vet and they said it was in a bad way and advised PTS but i took her home and with lots of TLC she came good. I told my neighbor i had the kitten and was not about to give her back and she said i could keep her. The RSPCA came and took all her cats and thankfully she did not get any more . Speak to the RSPCA.You may be able to help some but the rest will keep breeding unless someone can step in and stop her..
  12. There are a few similar breeds in Australia.Tell us what you are after in a dog and we may be able to advise you..
  13. Another vote for Saluki or Wolfhound or Deerhound
  14. Go to another Vet who can advise what food the dog can eat and better explain what the problem is. .May need a prescription diet. My cat cannot digest protein and has Hills zd dry food from the vet. There is another similar food for dogs who have digestive problems.
  15. I had a curly when my 4 boys were young - 3-6 yrs when we got her. She was wonderful; tough enough to rough play with my very boisterous children but gentle enough never to hurt them apart from the occasional bump over. She was very active; LOVED water and very destructive for the first couple of years. We had a Lab who had nothing on her when it came to chewing and digging  When she has her "zoomies" the boys learnt very quickly to lay flat on the ground and she would run and jump over them - or she would knock them flying which they sometimes deliberately let her do. My Wolfhound cross was 28 kilos when we got her at 10 months old.My youngest was 3 at the time. She did zoomies and ran towards us but would swerve around behind us then stop at our side. She never knocked the kids over but it was the kids who sometimes ran into her when playing and she was tough enough for it to not bother her. Lots of larger breeds are very smart and just seem to know to be gentle around children. You must supervise and teach the kids and young dogs at the same time how to interact and play together safely .
  16. Yes they are quite big dogs;the female is smaller. Another smaller retriever ...The Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.. http://www.dogbreedi...ducktolling.htm
