  1. Ok, so a bit of background. My friend overseas emailed me yesterday to tell me a litter had been born from a breeder with lines they love. It is their last litter from that bitch. They lost their previous dog last year at 5yo to brain cancer And with that dog they did obedience and started in agility. But was also a most cherished pet. So new puppy will be ready to come home end July/start of August. However, my friend is going away for a week in September, and for 2-3 weeks in December. So pup would be rather young both times. She hasn't asked yet, but the pup would either stay with its breeder or with one of her dog club friends. So with dog savvy people. The breeder has currently placed a hold on the pup for them while they decide. However, would you get the puppy? or would you wait for another litter somewhere else after the travelling has been done? I personally see arguments from both sides, but if it was me- from a dog i have always admired- i would get it now while i could.
  2. I too would suggest lab, but to me they aren't really short coated. And i read it as they want short coated but really mean smooth coated. So a smooth collie doesn't fit it if thats what they mean. Vizsla would be good, but do need training- and extra stimulation not just a walk. i knw a few greys that would suit but arent 100% familiar with the breed. And also salukis
  3. I'd suggest cavalier also. My boys do agility and love it :) Wouldn't jump the fence, dont shed or bark much. Happy to go walking, or just laze around. Mine are walked twice per day most days. and how is he not pretty :D IMG_2134 by Gabby, on Flickr Otherwise a cocker would work. They are bigger, and hairier. Most do not drool but i do know one who does- but he seems ot have a really droopy face- so as long as the parents have normal face skin i would say you are safe. The japanese spitz could work, but the couple i knew were barkers! Swedish vallhund? sheltie? also barkers though.
  4. This was the one i was going to recommend. We used to use them at the daycare i used to work at. Easier to clean than the other brand ones they had and drained better so less smell.
  5. From her results i too wouldnt be feeding chicken. Would be going to roo. And raw, if she can tolerate the chicken raw too i would feed it that way :) Not sure as i didnt read the ingredients thoroughly- but perhaps something like this would suit? http://www.naturalpe...-beans---3.4kg/ She doesnt look at all skinny to me. A growing pup should be lean. ETA: you can steam veggies. They provide some nutriets but act largely as a filler, like the oats and barley. So additional veggies may help. Or give her some raw carrotts to chomp on as snacks.
  6. How about an irish terrier? Though currently no adult dogs.
  7. The scnauzer could work. though some i would say still stand the same size, even smaller for females as my cavs. All the border terriers i know are smaller than my cavs. The shelties at agility are bigger, though tend to like the sound of their own voice Would a beagle be too much of a working dog? from what i know of them a valhund would be good. But i doubt there would be any adult dogs available. miniature poodle? they are light- but tall :)
  8. Definitely not the cocker. they dont do too well left alone for long periods.
  9. Cavalier! Cavalier rescue qld often has some :) Mine are all very trainable, and love to work for you and food. They will very happy run and jump, mine all run 20km some days, while are perfectly content to sleep on the couch and watch movies the others. Thats what i love most about them. They can be whatever you want them to be. Small, mine are all around 8-9kg. But not too small imo. None of mine are dog aggressive, they will chase birds but recall off them easily so i don't think their prey drive is ridiculously engrained into them. If hair isn't your thing they are easily clipped :) ETA: Many have been cropping up on gumtree lately too. https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/mature/cavalier-king-charles-spaniel.asp Kahleyvale cavs have a 13mo available at the moment- they are quite good
  10. I'd add some extra water to her dinner too if you aren't already :) yep already there :) Thought you would have been, but just in case :D As its times that i need it that my common sense can disappear on me, and simple things escape me
  11. I'd add some extra water to her dinner too if you aren't already :)
  12. [i am glad your dog is ok Kipster! Thats very scary. quote name=sarsaparilla' timestamp='1433112588' post='6698701] My old dog has had two courses of cartrophen - once a week for four weeks - with no ill effects. I can't really say they helped him much though. After reading about the OP's experience I will be wary if it is suggested again. Thank you for sharing. Henry was the same. Two courses and I have noticed no improvement with either, so instead of trying again as the vet suggested I bought a Henry hottie bed and started him on turmeric and have seen an improvement with that :) I will also be using a back in track coat through winter when he sleeps to see if that helps. .
  13. I had 3 in a rather small yard and never noticed a thing
  14. Gorgeous! And so SHINY!
  15. Firstly, is your cav overweight? ETA; even the slightest bit. and what age- as this can impact the answer :) Henry snored something horrible when i got him- he weighed 11.3kg. He now weighs 7.9kg and doesn't make a sound! Secondly, if they are lean, i vet would likely just check the airways and may then require surgery. But weightloss is always an easy start and something most dogs are capable of :) Even my own dogs could stand to lose a few 100g's currently and i always try to keep them lean
  16. No one ever told me dogs were so addictive! You really cant have just one, or two, or three...
  17. Interesting- will do it in my spare time :) May as well!
  18. Mine must be broken i have never seen them eat grass! And i have had 4 over the years. When he feels sick Deniki will eat some bamboo leaves, but only the new growth
  19. You could always cut up a thin yoga mat and glue on top?
  20. I have been waiting for some updated pics! We need more! He is gorgeous
  21. denali

    Go Malinois!

She is gorgeous :) Maybe its the mau then :D max never shuts up
  22. Well done with all your training acyhievements everyone! Kokodas recall can be hit and miss, Henry never leaves the others- just plods along, Deniki's is great but he is a sook and doesnt let me out of his sight, so i barely trained that and wont take credit for it.
  23. Everyday there is something- be it an excellent recall with a smiling face, or a naughty shredding of a packet of pom poms (yesterdays endeavour- thanks Hen..) Today- i am sitting outside watching Kokoda fish in my pond A tad naughty, but he is so happy! (and the fish are safely at the bottom.) while Henry lies at my feet and Deniki sits with me on the chair. I am thankful for today.
