  1. Sorry to hear of this incident. I so hope right cruicate ligament damage needing surgey is the last thing needed. Paws crossed the diagnosis is not as serious. To answer your question about corrective surgey having a good outcome, I can say most assuredly YES. Not 3 hours ago I just had the pleasure of meeting a GSP, same age as your dog, which is well on the way to recovery. He is 16 weeks post-surgery & is really enjoying his hydrotherpy. All is most hopeful for a great outcome. Univeristy of Sydney patient. One of our American Vizsla males had the same surgery when he was aged 6 years. He pulled lame in the dead of winter during a day's hunting. This dog did all he could to hide the pain because he wanted to continue being in the field. After a few days of being off, it was determined he had done damage. Within 18 months, he went on to get a very high award in Field work for gundogs. A CKCS bitch aged 5, very overweight, had successful surgery too. She was put on a weight controlled & RAW diet during the 2 months she lived with us during recovery. Her option for no weight loss was going to be unsuccessful surgery. University of Sydney patient. Like all operations, not all work. Reaosons all differ. I know there are many DOL'ers from your state. I am sure they can help with the nittier details. In NSW, a referral is needed for a specialist Vet. SA will be similar. Get as many opinions & options as possible. Sending healing vibes to you BOTH.
  2. Never underestimate what a wandering dog may do to can access to new territory. Do as much as you possibly can to protect yourself & your dogs.
  3. That neck design is excellent. Thanks for the share. Another one for the list.
  4. Makes me smile big time to read about a dog owner being so totally responsible to accomodate her dog and friends. Well Done Trinabean & Bruno
  5. Learn something new all the time.
  6. One of the best things to come out of all your searching to help Abby is the help you will get to be able to aid Abbey thro' her issues. Helping her is two- sided. Abbey has certain needs. You also need the right directions to go. 4 months is a short time for this girl to overcome an unhappy start to her life. Slow progress will be best. :D
  7. Look at it this way, Penny is saying OK I know you really love me & really dig me. I'll manage a wee bit longer for you.... Sweet Penny & Kirislin
  8. Would you have your family car serviced by an amateur who 'reads' a manual?
  9. Might be easily solved: Of you have the info on his medication, you could either google it OR ask the chemist to look up MIMS to see what it is. (MIMS is like a bible for medications. Maybe if you know, post here as well. One point, I think that repeat of the malaseb bath was too soon for your baby. Yeah, I know you are between a rock & a hard place. But it's a really 'strong' thing to be putting on a sensitive skin.
  10. Weatherbeeta (sp) are good. I let Herbie The Horrible (Vizsla) sniff his coat before making him wear it. I rubbed it all over him & made coo-ing noises about how handsome he looks. ( true fact as he is soooooooooooooo handsome ) First time I put it on & rewarded him with his bribes. ( tiny piece of chicken). I left it on for 10 minutes. Removed it & repeated the exercise within 30 minutes. Did that for a couple of days. He is now wearing the coat successfully. The older dogs all had different ideas about 'coats'. Two would take them off during the night. The other wanted to wear a coat AND be in bed. Yet all of the adult dogs could stand icy cold water if it meant swimming.
  11. Did you know that you could use a human anti-histamine for your boy? It is much cheaper than one from the Vet. I'll try to find some recent threads here about this. As well there is more about skin issues. Am using my ipad which is a tad restricting to search. BRB :)
  12. small bump.... That was a great outing.. I wonder ( in a biased way) if this is because he is a gun dog? There seems a inner brightness with some & so versatile.
  13. Yes, 'out there' describes him well. You get where I'm coming from. Thanks Raffiki, that was a kind thought. And if a fence is 'Rhino-proof' it should definitely be Bruno-proof. He doesn't try to get over or through fencing, or baby-gates. It's something to keep in mind then, if reinforced with star pickets or posts. Yes, Bruno is the same. Not going off topic, but if the timing was better, a boxer could be so helpful in helping people get over dog phobia. Biased Boxer lover xxxxx ( such discussion for another thread too) ETA: had not read the rest of the thread...... YAY for BRUNO xxxx
  14. Excellent. Abby is lucky to have you doing all possible to help her.
  15. On 31 March you made a thread on this topic. I recall you were in the Illawarra area I recall the lovely name of your dog. Did anything eventuate with the same advice given then? You need guidance to help the dog as everyone has said :)
  16. The older dogs were experts at willing me to obey them with their eyes. Darned if the new Vizsla is not trying the same. ETA: part of the pose with the Vizslak is to raise a paw & look especially pathetic. Classic manipulators
  17. We went up to Morayfield in January to collect the new puppy. We stayed at Nambour & moved around both before & after collecting him. I used this site to find places http://www.sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au/sitePage.cfm?code=dog-off-leash-areas The facilities were good, we are going to go back with the monster for some QLD showing. We hope to make more fun of the beaches. He loved the expanse of Maleny Shpwground & being cuddled by his Dad. Hope you have a wonderful time
  18. Totally agree with this. A great Vet with so much knowledge. I have a worn copy of this very book.
  19. Thanks for that chart AND the photos. Have to check with the breeder (again) for the monster's birth weight.
  20. I understand. My day went down hill with my darling boy. He struggles more today. I just do not know what my heart will take. Love does not quite seem enough.
  21. Totally hilarious Good for you, Stan.
  22. Thank you. I follow Augusinte Approved on Facebook. Threads like this are such a benefit for looking after our dogs. Must be a thrill for you to have your boy glowing in health.
