  2. Ta!!!!! Love to learn something new every day. The owner said many people would not go near his dogs. Their loss. It's a long and super memory
  3. Going back at least 25 years ago, I was at the Vet's. A man was there with his two racing dogs. One of the dogs was black & beautiful. The other was a grey & just as beautiful.. Owner gave me the OK to touch them etc. I am busy patting the grey after 1st patting the black.... The black ever so gently leaned against me & looked at me saying more for me please. One day..... one day I will have a couch grey ( for my dotage.)
  4. Unless the issue of the cause of the skin problems is addressed, the dry food is like a band aid. what makes him tick ( or misfire) needs to be considered as well. Could I usggest you look at posts by these two users Erny & Steve ( in alphabetical order). Their emphasis is the whole well being of the dog not just a meal. There is likely more doable after careful reasearch.
  5. I was seriously thinking it is such a shame that the water pipe burst and the lounge is flooded so ya'll have to go have a picnic wherever & Bruno can be safe in his own back yard. I understand they have come from a distance. There are two sides here: The hosts with a beautiful dog & guests with phobias.... Cyberhugs to Bruno. I would come all the way from the East Coast to visit ANY boxer
  6. BTW, I got told years ago, older dogs eat dirt because of an imbalance with their systems. May be minerals lacking so they eat dirt. When I lived in the USA, it was something I saw often over winter months.
  7. I am going thro' the exact same thing with my belovoed Tibor. Word for word what you wrote is what is happening with him. May I ask you this? Do you think that your darling Penny Whippet has real pain? Not the pain of stiff bones but pain because that is the part of her journey at this moment. If not, then try to go on. Your bond with ALL your dogs is so obvious. When Penny needs to go, you will both know. In the mean time, love on with Penny. I am making every minute special with Tibor. Silly old boy tried to mount the little bitch the other day..... one for old time's sake. He would have keeled over if he could have. I alternatively laughed & cried. There is no wand,Kirislin. There is something even more special: LOVE. That will be your answer HUGS xxxx
  8. Brilliant news!!!! Nice to read the cabbies helped as well . What a gift for the lady & her companion too. Thank you.
  9. I would love to see that on video or photos.....
  10. I am convinced my Vizslas recognise other Vizslas. We've just baby sat a cute Chesapeake Bay Retriver puppy. Our Vizsla puppy ignored her. Friends dropped in with their older Vizsla which he had never meet. He went overboard trying to play with that dog. Maybe I am Vizsla biased too
  11. In my limited experience, I think it is best to make the tea first - 1 rounded teaspoon slippery elm and around 250 ml water, simmer for around 3 minutes and cool. Then add around a teaspoon for every 5kg of dog. I mix in around 1 teaspoon of honey while the tea is still hot. I give this in his bowl half an hour before feeding and my dog loves as though it is a high value treat. There should be enough of the tea to last for three days and I believe it is okay in the fridge for this time. I have found that I have never needed to go beyond 1 day (usually one dose) for my Ronin to be pooping perfectly once again. I make up a cup if I notice he has managed to gobble something down before I can get it off him quick enough and sometimes will give a serve before a meal just-in-case. A couple of nights ago I noticed Ronin was doing the most awful smelly farts  and I gave him a couple of spoons of the tea and it seemed to calm his guts and my nostrils :D I also add some probiotics to the cold mixture as a double whammy. The high quality Jarrah honey makes this a triple threat to nasties from the throat to the bum :D Anyway, it is as cheap as chips so good to keep on hand. Just the sort of info that is wortwhile adding to notes etc. Very helpful.
  12. As far back as 13 years, I changed ideas on vaccinations. Only ever had one Vet that disagreed. Current Vet encourages my right to treat my dogs as I pick. The 14 year old male only has age going against him. Titre tests confirm he is OK..... Benefit is no systems overload of chemicals.
  13. The whole clip was awesome! What a thrill for you! Photos if you can please.
  14. Have you ever check the Quran about the comments regarding dogs being dirty? I would suggest you do.
  15. this just seems so Stan! A star of love for all
  16. Most people I know are involved with the Sydney Royal and not attending to usual business. Maybe try again next week when everything is over? TBF, I am following the thread with interest as the venue could suit me. Hope for good news. :)
  17. After a poop of a day, THANK YOU for such delightful information!!!!!! I had read of the San Franisco greyhound with the Nuns previously. What a grand chance if other greyhounds could transition to this work.
  18. Thank you so much. Happy & safe holidays for all
  19. Might be a tad off topic. I feel sorrier for HazyWal, Maddie & Stan having an attack by two dogs.
  20. The very best photo has to be ZEUS guarding the wee kitten. All the photos made me smile. Team Dog again on the ball.
  21. Taking aside the dog-inexperience: what's wrong with taking a mature dog home from the pound?! Your comment about bringing home potential 'problems/illnesses' makes it sound like you should avoid pounds all together! Plenty of amazing, wonderful (and healthy!) mature dogs that need homes in pounds, so with advice and a steep learning curve there's nothing wrong with it! Re-read what was said: please do not JUST go to the pound & get a mature dog. Going from other posts by persephone there was a definite suggestion of doing as much homework as possible AND needed to ensure ownership of a worthwhile companion. It is exactly as you added with advice, and learning correctly, a mature dog from a pound could work. But it is crucial for due diligence to be carried out prior to taking ownership. That I feel was the point.
  22. I have found it can differ for each dog depending on breed and age and facilities of their home. The adult Vizslas can be left in comfort and contentement for up to 8 hours. They have a spare room fully ventilated with bedding, water & are secured. My neighbour assists with checking them, regardless of how long we are out. Our new puppy who just made 5 months is only alone & crated for 4 hours tops. TBF, I get withdrawals if away longer from the wee shit. Being alone ( for me) is balanced by great quality time with me when I am home.
  23. I have such a long list. Involves different breeds too. Going back years, our friend's Great Dane flatly refused to leave the house one morning. He would be taken outside and left in a beautiful back yard. ( Absolutely dog heaven.) They had to go off to work so left him inside. Came home that evening to hear moans from a bedroom.... one intruder on top of a wardrobe AND one very proud Dane guarding him My older Vizslak go to the phone EVERY night 30 seconds before my SO makes a call to advice he is nearly 5 minutes away. Another friend's English Cocker Spaniel kept on licking a 'small' mark on her leg. Diagnosed as a melanoma. Police dog I knew had been given the 'stay' command as his handler checked a room. Without warning the dog suddenly up & leaped into the air.... there was a manhole in the roof AND a man about to jump down onto his Dad. I am so convinced of many abilities of dogs. I hope more share stories too
  24. Assuming always makes an ASS out of someone. Kudos to the OP for handling the matter in a professional way in an effort to aid what is a fine animal. I worry about bush lawyers though.
