Kirislin Posted February 19, 2013 Share Posted February 19, 2013 (edited) As I was leaving the park today with my dogs a woman saw them and started oohing and aahing over how beautiful they all were. So of course I let her come over to smooch then as they stood in the back of the car. I guess I have alot to thank that lady for, because it was when I was looking at Kibah straight on I noticed a red spot on her eye. I immediately booked her into the vet and it doesn't look good. It's not sore so I knew it wasn't an injury. Brett thinks it's a tumour, which means the eye will have to come out. I'll watch it over the next few days/weeks and if it doesn't reduce in size, or grows, the verdict is bad. Today I was just re assuring someone else that dogs can cope with blindness, but suddenly the thought of my beautiful Kibah at the age of 13 having to have such a serious operation is devastating. I know I'm in shock now, I'll get my head around it soon. Here she is, my beautiful little watermelon lips. Your little watermelon lips is so gorgeous and even if she does have to have the operation, she is in such good health and has had such a good life with you, she should be able to cope very well. I think Kibah is really healthy otherwise. Out of curiosity I asked the receptionist when Kibah had last visted the clinic, would you believe 2001!!!! She did go to a reproduction vet in 2002 when she had her puppies, and I think perhaps Mt Evelyn for vaccination a few years ago, but that's about it. She's an amazing little girl. As I walked out there was a man I know in the waiting area with another whippet. One who did very well in the show ring and has progeny all over the world. I wont say who it is but he looked so old and frail, I suspect he might have been in there for his last journey although I didn't ask. He was younger than Kibah and yet looking at them both Kibah looks amazing. I'm hoping it will ensure she has the strength she'll need if it comes to removing her eye. Here she is enjoying a 'nana. She's been known to wake me up in the middle of the night because she can smell bananas in the fruit bowl and wants one. And I've been silly enough to give her one. Jed Posted February 19, 2013 Share Posted February 19, 2013 It's horrible when you find out. Cancer is so scary, and losing an eye is horrible. As long as the op cures the cancer, all is well .... after a few weeks, she will adapt, and you wont notice. I have had 2 dogs with one eye, and they both did fine. bianca.a Posted February 19, 2013 Share Posted February 19, 2013 Oh Krislin she is a darling and I'm so sorry that had to be a scare. If it's any comfort one of my cats was 15 when diagnosed with melanoma in her eye and she sailed through the surgery. I was so worried but she has just turned 17 and is plodding along. The specialist said it only took 10 minutes (wow) to do as I was really concerned how she would handle the G.A, so it is a very quick procedure.
