  1. I might run out of food for me but never for the dogs
  2. Really pissed off with myself. A dog had a go at Amber a couple of weeks ago. Today the owner asked if they could say hi. I'm thinking 'NO' but don't like to look like a total dog crazy. Had already objected to the dog being on a long lead in a stay whilst Poppy was in the same ring. So I agreed and of course the dog went for Amber again. The owner has zero clue. Keeps saying the dog wants to play but doesn't know how. Ummm no it is aggressive. But I do have a clue so it is my fault, so I am annoyed with myself. Amber is fine. I did some distance, LAT type work near the dog. Tried to explain about thresholds etc but just got a blank look. Owner is a instructor at the dog club and had a 'keep away' bandana on the dog. Might as well whinge about everything in here where it is likely not to be noticed too much. Who walks around a ring doing a run through eating a SAUSAGE whilst a dog is working in the ring? Seriously, no brains. My dogs would have been fine but the dog in there wasn't. And really that would have thrown a lot of dogs.
  3. Great photos Teela Glad you all had a good time.
  4. Unless it was one of those tiny fenced dog parks then you have to share the space with other people. The beaches aren't dedicated dog beaches! Horses aren't allowed on all beaches either so perhaps yours is one of the ones that horses are allowed on. Don't let your dog eat horse poo though, especially if you have a ivermectin sensitive breed. Horse wormer can contain this and can be in the poo.
  5. Someone was giving me crap for having working dogs on a suburban block. I said they were actually show dog bred and she shut up
  6. It was mainly kibble that my dog wouldn't eat. She did eat bones and raw. She wasn't impressed with tinned food. I assume that because she wasn't feeling great that she would only eat the yummiest of food. She had no other signs of being sick for ages btw. Heaps of energy, glossy coat etc. I put a very similar thread up on here and got the same responses you are getting. Your dog might just be being cheeky or there might be something wrong.
  7. Yes my dog did this. She was always 'fussy' at around 11 months she pretty much stopped eating. She was diagnosed with a multiple liver shunt.
  8. You could try music too. I played the samples on this site during a bad thunder storm and Poppy did go to sleep. So did I!!! They are very soothing. http://throughadogsear.com/samples/
  9. When my dogs are feeling anxious they choose to go into their crates. ie if we are away in a strange place. But they are already crate trained and like their crates. Maybe suggest he goes into the crate during a fight but don't lock him in there. See if he settles. If he looks like he is happier in there then you could think about shutting the door. I am just concerned that he doesn't feel trapped in there and stress more.
  10. I was worried about my dogs too moving from land to the burbs. I had a thread on here :) They took the move really well. A bit of barking at neighbors sometimes, I didn't have neighbors at the last place. They go out for daily walks now and really like that. I couldn't walk out from my old house. I've got about a quarter of an acre and I think they would be fine on a much smaller block.
  11. Sorry that your dog isn't well. I had a read up on condition and am a bit confused as most info is saying Bile Duct Obstruction is a problem of the pancreas. I would be suggesting quite different foods for a liver as against a pancreas problem. Unless the bile problem is caused by liver cancer? With the liver you need highly digestible protein and non-meat proteins are better received. The main recommended protein would be egg whites. You then need to work out if there is a problem with purines, is the dog having bladder issues too? Some dogs with liver disease do. If the problem is caused by the pancreas then other factors come into play like giving a low fat diet. Can you confirm the cause of the Bile Duct Obstruction?
  12. The best dog food is one that you dog does well on! Start with what the breeder is doing or you puppy might get an upset tummy from the change of food.
  13. That is a very scary experience! I hope you all recover ok. I've gone out around here a couple of times and thought it was possibly not a good move!
  14. If your clinic doesn't currently sell it (most do though) just ask them to order it in.
  15. I took this very elegant pic of Amber the other day.....
  16. I'm always amazed by the people that want to come over and say hi when you have obviously moved your dog out of the way! When they say 'mine is friendly' I just say 'well mine aren't'. Had a really funny incident once when I ducked down a drive to avoid a couple of dogs. Was waiting, waiting and they hadn't come past. Stuck my head out of the driveway as they stuck their head out of the driveway they had ducked down
  17. The Tulip festival is on at the moment in Silvan. Dogs are welcome there. I've been to Sky High with the dogs and the Alfred Nicholson gardens in the Dandenongs. I go to Warrandyte a fair bit too.
  18. If you are buying from the butchers ask them to chop it up for you :) I've even got them to mince up liver for me when I wanted to make doggy biscuits.
  19. I used something similar on a horse. I nearly got my head kicked in!!! It is quite ouchy if you are spraying onto open wounds.
  20. Nice! I sent the photo to my friend and she wants to put it on their FB page is that ok with you?
  21. I'll be hearing about this! My friend is a manager of the school. She was telling me about another dog that the kids had met and I knew him too. Nice that the kids wanted to do more dog patting not sure they really get dogs as pets.
  22. I quite like English Shepherds. An American breed that sort of looks like a cross between a Aussie & border collie. Lots of them seem to be sable or tri. A US herding instructor thought Amber was one! http://strongwindfarm.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=3485469
