  1. Sorry to hear your girl is going through this I have a dog who has survived IMHA, so I can give experience from that side of things. The immediate treatment is usually high doses of steroids and and an immune-suppressant such as Atopica (cyclosporin). The cause is often unknown and it comes on very suddenly - basically the body starts attacking and destroying its own blood cells. The treatment is ongoing for several months and with multiple blood tests along the way. Her PCV (packed cell volume)or Haemoglobin as these are a critical levels to monitor, also does she have spherocytes and agglutination of the blood? Have a look at the these websites http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=1390 http://users.cloudnet.com/jdickson/ and join this facebook page - they are very experienced and knowledgeable about this condition. https://www.facebook.com/groups/6228146980/ Please feel free to ask any questions. Starkehre has it spot on - It is a long, emotional, demanding and expensive road to recovery if you can get there, the facebook group was a great support tool for me.
  2. As someone who has done hare coursing years ago back in the UK, I understand the heritage behind why the breed restrictions are there, and maybe one day in the near future I might have another greyhound that I would be able to compete with. In the meantime non-sight hounds can still compete, not for Lure Coursing Titles, but they can obtain Coursing Ability titles. It will be interesting to see how clubs work this, I know our club is mostly non-sighthounds, so they may do official runs under the ANKC rules but also retain a fun run element to it? I have no idea at the moment, but I do know a lot of people really enjoy lure coursing as a fun day out with their dogs and friends whatever breed they have. Poppy having fun with lure coursing :)
  3. This link has some info about them - http://www.antivaxxers.com/?p=3671 I think the bold part says it all really
  4. Awww, totally adorable! Happy Gotcha Day Basil :D
  5. Oh Stan you really are too cool for school Thanks for the feedback so far everyone - I'm going near a shop on Sunday that stocks them, so might try some on her for size and see how we go!
  6. Have you seen the mesh ones, is the mesh fine enough to keep sand out? Haha, she is a pretty cool little pooch
  7. Does anyone have any experience of using Doggles, especially on a small dog? I'm wondering if they would help keep the sand out of Poppy's eyes at the beach. We go to the beach several times a week and she runs around like a loon for most of the time, taking the odd tumble resulting in a face full of sand! I'm just concerned about her getting sand in her eyes on a regular basis - should I be? Any other suggestions welcome :) http://www.doggles.com.au/ eta beach pic ;)
  8. Oh they are gorgeous gapvic Flavia is a stunning colour - that will change as she gets older I guess? Can you give their soft velvety muzzles a stroke from me :)
  9. Ahhh see you've already been bitten by the greyhound bug and it's an itch that has been unscratched for too long ;) Definitely! Going to lure coursing hasn't helped  At the last meet I was happily fondling a greys ears for a while
  10. Just to play devil's advocate and because I obviously think they are gorgeous, how about a Chinese Crested? Mine are very quiet at home, mainly only barking when the doorbell goes. They are smart little active dogs, but also very cuddly. How could you resist this ;) Although I have to say Griffons are just adorable too!
  11. Oh Stan, you are very speshul indeed
  12. Haha, that's so funny and so cute!
  13. I've seen that video before Luke, very impressive work! Nawwwwwww :) Kavik - the tail only stops when they pee  My old boy having fun in the snow :) http://vid189.photobucket.com/albums/z49/screamingswifts/Videos/V070110_1357.mp4
  14. I had a working type cocker back in the UK and he was a gorgeous dog! He was from field trial champion lines but certainly had an off switch. They seem to come in two 'models' - small little pocket rockets and the larger, stockier ones - Fargo was the later. He had a brilliant temperament and could go all day in the forest or at the beach. They are a lot more common in the UK, especially in Scotland where I was when we had him. I'd like to think I'll have another one at some point :) Loads of pics here - http://s189.photobucket.com/user/screamingswifts/Fargo/story :)
  15. Thanks SC, I won't keep her waiting much more then!
  16. I've just got some K9 Natural freeze dried for Miss Poppy fussy pants to try. For those of you who use this food, how long do you leave it rehydrating before feeding? It's been soaking for about 20mins now but still feels pretty firm in the middle.....
  17. Just thought I'd update this thread - I haven't been out much over the past few months, but these are some recent ones with this lens from the past couple of weeks :)
  18. What breed are you looking at? In cresties poor dentition is common, but shouldn't be in most other breeds.
  19. Never thought of that ! But you are very right- no hiding at all! Nope  Poppy's 70s sheepskin centrefold pose! Louis's hairless butt
  20. Try having hairless dogs - no hiding the genitals of either sex on mine
  21. Oh I'm sorry to hear about the spleen It's a nasty condition - the underlying cause for my dog's IMHA was never found, if it had been the spleen I probably wouldn't have put him through surgery either. All the best for your girl.
  22. Sorry to hear this - could it have been IMHA? If so, and I'm not going to sugar coat this, IMHA is very serious and your vet needs to know what they are doing.
