How Do You Maintain Your Leashes After The Beach?
BC Crazy replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have the SS ones from Blackdog. Excellent leads. -
Yes another vote for structure & routine. Find what works for the 2 pups & yourself & stick to it. It might take a while but it will be worth it. Mine are like little robots  They know the drill. What is expected of them & when. They just are where they have to be when I need them. I rarely have to call them to do anything eg put their leads on, meal times, grooming time. Bath time they put themselves in our out door bath & wait for me after our daily beach run. The mornings here belong to them basically. Thats when they are exercised, train etc & we are usually home by around midday. The arvos are for them to rest/sleep & I do whatever I have to do. Your gorgeous Hank is only a baby so life is going to be organised kaos for a while. You do need to be firm but fair & consistant I have found. Good Luck. Get them into a routine & life will be a bed of roses :)

I don't like the smell of WD either. No smell with the lanolin spray. -
How Do You Maintain Your Leashes After The Beach?

We are daily beach goers here & I don't seem to have to much trouble with my leads/collars. In do look after my gear. I buy good quality collars/leads. Blackdog, Ezydog & am going to try the new Syntek ones from K9 Pro if they bring out a limited slip collar.. I don't trust the cheap gear. IMHO not worth the risk with precious cargo.. I have had my gear for 3 or 4 years now. I wash my leads & collars in the washing machine in a delicates zip bag every couple of months. I also spray mine clips with lanolin spray once a fortnight when completely dry. I find it works better than WD40. I have also used cooking oil spray which seems to work well to. -
Mim that is so funny."Happy NOT Birthday" The look on your Corgi's face is priceless.

Why You Shouldn't Shave Your Long Coated Dog

I'm another who doesn'let my guys get too hot. I have cool coats for them if air con is unavailable for them. I don't let them suffer weather extremes. -
Another vote for a force dryer. I have a lazor rx & they do an amazing job. From memory it was around $190. It is really powerful & most of the time I have it on the cool setting to save coat damage. It really get rid of all that loose coat. What else I like is you can adjust the velocity so you can start on a puppy around his pants at full strength & up around his head where he may be a bit scared you can slow it down till he gets used to it. Don't feel stupid Lhok. Sometimes they will blow coat when the weather warms up as it has of late.

WOW !!! Well done to you That is an awesome effort Beautiful little Duxie too...

Why You Shouldn't Shave Your Long Coated Dog
BC Crazy replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's funny how different same breed dog coats can be. I have never had any BC's with the same coats. Sonny has a big coat. Huge pants etc & Stella has a really thick coat. Not as long as Sonny's but tonnes of it. She is my little Panda bear  She is harder to groom though. You really have to work to get to the under coat. And all this is done very much under sufferance :p She isn't a big fan. My previous boy was so low maintance. He was a dream to groom, never had issues with mattes & only required brushing once a week. He had a very long coat but not nearly as thick as my 2 guys now. My first girl was the same luckily as she hated being groomed period. She would run a mile if she saw a brush. Sonny & Stella both run up & wait as soon as they see the grooming bag come out Which is great never have to call them. Same with a bath. So I can't complain really :) -
Reggie And Smudge At The Park

I'll be in that  I have never been to Orange. I tend to stick close to the coast. Love the water. I would like an acreage by the ocean. Don't want much really :p Shame there is nothing training there though.... it is the same here. 120 km's round trip to the closest dog club. Love the big park you are at. My 2 would go off running around there. They would love it :) Awesome photo's -

I don't understand people wanting to clip a double coated breed. It takes me 10 mins tops each dog everyday to run a brush, then wide tooth metal comb over them & do a tick check. They very rarely get a knot because I do groom them daily. It's that easy. They get shampooed about once every 3 to 4 weeks. That takes me a hour each dog. Some people are just lazy I think. But I have to agree as well I would rather see a clipped dog than one with an uncared for coat any day. Unfortunately I do see the latter a lot -
Yes I did the same with Sonny Kajtek during storms we would have lots of fun, play tugs etc thats why now he's like YA !! thunderstorm lets party!! Stella has always been scared even as a puppy so I couldn't engage her in any form of play as she just shuts down unfortunately. She just want to hide & suck on her sucky toy that she has

Oh geez ! Wonder if it's Eddie. Here's hoping. -
Yes staffyluv. Me too. I have one of each. My girl is a quivering mess hours before the storm arrives & Sonny loves them & wants to run around the backyard playing in the lightening & thunder. PM, its a shame the Thunder Shirt didn't help much. I do find it helps a bit with Stella. She is on meds though as well.

Hypothetical: Baby With Temperament Fault
BC Crazy replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes persephone, I agree. It is sad but even with my girl at times when she is having a bad day, her anxiety levels are through the roof & she is beside herself with fear I sometimes feel I should give Stella her wings so she can have some peace I am not a breeder nor do I ever wish to be but IMHO I believe that if there is major concerns with a pups temp at 8 weeks of age the kindest thing is to pts for all concerned. -
Great news Koda is going to be OK What a courageous boy. Get well soon Koda :)

Hypothetical: Baby With Temperament Fault

My Stafford Esme, did all this as a pup. She stood back from the litter, was very submissive and shut down when picked up. So much so that people would ask what was wrong with her and if she actually did anything at all! She has turned out to be an awesome dog. Something changed in her at about 5 or so months. She is still a nervy dog and very intense and needy, but she is now just so affectionate and just perfect for me. I chose her as she was the runt and I felt sorry for her. I wanted a gentle dog, training wise she is incredibly responsive as she is desperate to please. In the wrong home she would be a mess, absolutely crushed, but she is in the right home and everything I could have hoped for. Totally agree with you Clyde. Pups can improve somewhat in the right hands. I think that in the right hands is KEY though. On the flip side to this, my girl showed no signs of being anxious/nervy etc as a yougster but from about 9 months old she became unsettled & her temp changed. She is a fantastic dog though like your Esme Clyde, she is also incredibly responsive & desperate to please. A very biddable little girl. And yes in the wrong home she too would be an absolute mess. I shudder to think what she would become. -

Thanks for the heads up WP . Sounds like great shampoo. I might give it a go on my bc's :) -
I had one trainer tell me to have Zoe PTS due to her dog aggression. He even offered to give me a bullet to do the job. That one really floored me Geez kavik a "trainer" ... just when I thought I'd heard it all
