  1. My dogs are generally walked ever evening (though i have been a bit slack lately). And weekends often twice per day. They are not required to heel, but i don't like pulling, or peeing on every second pole. So they get the length of their lead to sniff around and pee. Their daily route is about a 15 minute on lead walk there and back, and an off leash run of however long i stay there. I also bushwalk once or twice per week, and in summer they swim in the creek and/ or pool every day. Some days if i do not have time for a walk, they get a quick run on the bike. And i also try and do conditioning exercises with them. They would love it if i were able to walk them 3 times per day. But i just can't do that!
  2. Another thing i had been told for oily / greasy dogs was to shampoo them directly onto a dry coat. So just pour it straight on and lather (it may need to be diluted a tad for that to work) But it did seem to work better at removing grease the time i tried it :)
  3. Thanks, I have seen the ramps. How does that work on a bed though? Would it need to sit on top of the mattress? I've got a ramp up my bed for henry :) I didnt buy it, in fact its just my agility contact training mini aframe that's being used as a ramp, but i have it tucked in between the bed frame and my mattress. so the mattress goes over it a tiny bit. So it is a step at the top of the ramp, but just mattress height. And i have it at the end of my bed and dont notice a thing. Though the ramp itself at that point is only ~2cm thick.
  4. I had to stop and pat a very young Weimaraner pup the other day at a cafe. That owner was also amazed that i knew the breed of her dog  She asked if i had one, and i just said "No, I'm just a bit of a dog nerd!" ETA: we have a nice weim and dally pair, a couple of greys, and a xoloitz....however you spell that! That walk around my area. Its nice to see something different :) And the local pet shop put up a picture of an ibizian hound who visited the other day- wish i had met him!
  5. he is divine. A friend of mine just got a dally pup too.. i wonder if they are from the same litter. I will have to ask where she got him!
  6. Ive just ordered some- so this is nice to know :)
  7. Yes, I just bought a large square for the back of my car from the Pet network / Peperone. Best price with shipping that i found.
  8. Good to know; I have found what I could about this particular breeder and everything seems to check out. She has 2 different breeds, although of course no cross-breeding. Is that pretty typical or do most stick with 1? Also wondering about the price. If buying 2, is it reasonable at all to see if a deal could be negotiated, like 2 x 2500, going for 4500 instead of 5000, or is that considered rude? I want to be respectable of course, but I also don't want to overpay. It isnt uncommon for breeders to have multiple breeds :) You could try, however, i do think its unlikely that you will get a discount on buying more than one. Given they could sell the other full price to someone else.
  9. I know, I was saying only buy a pup from parents who have been DNA tested for this.. Not to Dna test your own dog.
  10. I have 4 cavaliers, and had one other before these guys. They are 1,3,5 and 7 yrs old. All are generally very healthy- no heart issues, no eye issues, no ear infections ever, no syringomyelia. My only issues are that henry has grain allergies (but this can happen in any breed) And kokoda does have luxating patellas- though just a grade one and easily managed. And these first started after a large fall that he had- he hadn't had an issue prior. The issues are there, so it is crucial to buy from a breeder with dogs that are specialist cleared from a cardiologist and ophthalmologist. As well as a dna test for dry eye/ curly coat syndrome. SM isn't quite as common over here as it seems to be in America and the uk, but it can happen. I only know of one who has had it- and I know many cavs :)
  11. I think you need to share a photo :D
  12. Yes, I would follow all of these suggestions- Reduce food, add veggies and make him work for his food. Even something as simple as scattering his food over the floor works :) Empty egg cartons and milk bottles are also cheap and easy food containers that they can work to get the food out of. Also - please don't smaller dogs are well known for not being able to regulate their blood sugar levels too well. I first read about it when I was reading something about Chihuahuas - I'm not 100% sure it applies to pugs - but regardless.... Please dont. https://www.purinapr...n-in-toy-breeds http://www.swankpets...-to-prevent-it/ I think this tends to be just the tiny toy breeds. I fast my dogs on occasion after a big meal (so chicken frame one day, then a fast day then food again from the next.) and have never had any issues :)
  13. I personally now feed raw, and am very happy with the results. I LOVE ziwipeak, but it's so expensive. You may need a second mortgage to feed it full time  Others I have used in the past are earthborn, Sunday pets and taste of the wild :) They kept condition and coat health best on the earthborn of those three. And heaps of things you can add on top of kibble too- so long as it isn't more than 10% per day as they say more than that unbalances it - yoghurt or kefir, sardines- fresh or canned, canned or fresh salmon, meaty bones, chicken wings, Turkey necks, grated veggies, cooked veggies, some fruits (not too many as they are high in sugar and can cause yeast overgrowth), meats, leftovers.
  14. I was going to say three, but there's a sneaky 4th head!
  15. I don't have any weight loss food suggestions, as I've always just reduced the amount of food they are currently on, or switched to raw. IMO, A lot of these foods are lower quality and just contain indigestible fillers. So i would personally just further reduce the food you are feeding her, reduce the sardines too. Are the sardines and salmon in oil or water? If oil, switch them to water only. You can add in something like raw grated carrots as well- low calorie and pretty much just a filler like the beans. Though, i do now feed raw and have done so for many years so my kibble knowledge is declining- What is the carb and protein percentages in the canidae? Also make sure she works for her food, obviously nothing major given her HD and cruciate- but just scavenging for it, feeding in muffin tins with tennis balls ontop, from empty egg cartons or milk bottles, kongs, bikkies scattered through the grass, simple obedience. Treats and tidbits- does she get any of these? bones?
  16. Quite a variety of breeds too! I did notice that when i was on the UK last, lots of breeds you don't typically see around, like scotties, airedales, springer spaniels and gun dogs. I don't really ever see any of them around here.
  17. Yes, everyone here in brisbane is freaking out because it may get to 6 degrees
  18. Wow! So great! I voted this morning and you were 15 spots behind 1st place- moving up in the world :D
  19. I would definitely recommend a specialist for a large and important operation such as this, as you really want to make sure it has the best outcome. In fact, many general vets would bring in a specialists to do it- or this has aways been the case in the clinics I've worked in.
  20. that is great! great video too, love the go pro :)
  21. Ha ha yes they can! Which is why we have to work on our recalls because they disappear very quickly in the opposite direction Here's a recall video of Em a few weeks ago - she had gone a long way and most of the way back was either in water or uphill and she still makes it look easy  https://www.facebook...100008551569765 So great! What a champ
  22. For a temporary thing I was also going to suggest some vet wrap or socks. Just make sure with the vet wrap that you stretch it before outing it on, and don't put it on tightly as that stuff really compresses!
  23. She is gorgeous, whatever she is! but there is definitely something else in there IMO, the face and ears are different. These are WSS - My link I just can't quite put my finger on the breed the face is like... And she really could be anything- this dog also looks shepherd -ish but is a husky x border collie My link But a size and body picture would help too :)
  24. They are all so grown up! And doing so well. Congrats to Em too :) quite the achievement Definitely keep me informed if you are planning some more babies :D but no doubt i'll be stalking you anyways haha
