  1. I can find you half a dozen 'silky terriers' , even yorkshire Identifications, on petrescue that give me the heebies.
  2. I sometimes add our intake records to the website, in his case they are there to make a point...his wealthy owners who said he was 'just getting old' and a 'bit itchy' know that he went to us and I want them to be ashamed of themselves. They make me sick. But I'm so proud of him. On the day he arrived I think we broke the sound barrier getting him to the vet. And now he is a chubby cheeky boy.
  3. I Bert He's not ready for adoption yet, his disgusting intake photos are on the website so he's come a long way and is doing very well for himself. *distressing image*
  4. How are things going? Yet again I'm way behind! (Sorry DDD it's been a while since I popped in or had any input, there's been a lot of sadness here. But I'm still thinking of Danny. )
  5. This is something I have tried to work out re Australian ingredients and as far a I can find there is nothing govt regulated to protect consumers from anything other than the meat component. If someone can dispute that I'd me more than happy because to me it reads as if the labelling doesn't have to tell you the origin of the ingredients. some snippets Cache linked because it opens in .doc form otherwise here agriculture.gov.au eta Toxic mouldy grain is linked to Aflatoxin ingestion
  6. Not sure if it's been posted yet but the NSW Gaming Authority sent this out. 2wk extension to greyhound racing act review submissions
  7. :) Maybe the people who run the page are also the volunteers doing the fundraising and are a bit pleased with themselves. But to block you ... as long as you were being polite and not snarky then that's just plain odd. It's very possible that they've had a few comments already and now just give people the flick rather than engage.
  8. Nobody has the time to chase them. And if he is buying unchipped pets it's the previous owner who gets in trouble for not chipping. Under 8wks doesn't count either. Re-sellers approach rescue as well. They look for pets with a price they can make a good profit on. Mostly purebreds or fluffies. People complain about adoption fees but too cheap and you get vultures. One woman in Sydney was well known for it around rescue.
  9. With thanks to Ken, SSR and the SSR Family & Friends, Emma, Liv, Linda and Mum. Our sweet vet. All the adopters who understood that ChiChi stayed with me 24/7 and gently greeted her into their home. And thank you Illy at Blacktown Pound. I remember your kindness and trust in me like it was yesterday.
  10. It's been a month, I never wanted to believe this would happen. Gutted isn't a big enough word to describe the feeling. Thank you ChiChi for everything. For being you. For being my light. For memories that hurt right now but will be treasured forever. I love you so much. I'd do anything to bring you back. Please know how much you mean forever and ever. Sorry for not being able to write more, it's too empty here to think.
  11. They haven't said if all the ingredients are from NZ. I am getting suspicious about how imported products are being snuck in such as; on the front it says Made in Australia / Australian Owned / Product of Australia and fine print on the back *from Australian and Imported Ingredients.
  12. I have one here that cost $6000+ I raised a litter of 7 pups, everything premium with no cutting corners and 24/7 by their side. Their adoption fee was a fraction of what they cost to raise and keep their mum healthy, add vetwork to that. If we were donated $8000 it would take very little time to burn through it. But if the rescue doesn't feel right, doesn't just ignore you but block you as well then go with your gut. Look further afield.
  13. Meh. Don't listen to FB online rescue experts  there's a lot worse going on under their noses, you're just lucky they weren't in a complete flap about your dog being from a breeder. edit: where's the photos? :D you can't mention cone of shame and not share lol
  14. Chemical smell? I haven't seen their renovated setup but if they have used waterproof non porous two-part epoxy type coatings, they do need to cure for a while in good ventilation which does make quite a powerful smell. It's excellent disease control for sealing concrete and brickwork where pathogens live but takes some time to set. I doubt it's ok to be chewed while still soft. Just speculating. :) Maybe someone who has first hand knowledge will post.
  15. First up: Pet shops suck, and shouldn't be doing live animals. It is an archaic and inadequate treatment of all pets much like the days when zoo animals lived in a tiny concrete cell with metal bars for public amusement. And in the end their lives are basically stock with a use by date. But, almost 20 years ago I was a pet shop employee. And a very good one re hygiene and care. And yes you can quietly put people off certain dogs but you'd better not get caught. Several times, I was yelled at for pups having no water and had to point out that the heavy bowl with blue glaze was in fact spotless and full. Not empty. There's a sick puppy: no it's actually asleep. There's a poo: no we remove poos (can you smell a poo?) that is a chew stick. Everything, even the floors & counters were cleaned with hot water and microcide, we never had the parvo everyone else had had. And your alternative is sell them or they sit in that vile glass box for months deteriorating. I didn't work for a store who does PTS of old pups. And took a few older ones home as my own, because I couldn't stand to watch them jump up and down, up and down, up and down all day. It's no life. And eventually I burned out, my final battle was over a test run for desexing of kittens. They sold for $35 pre-microchipping, no vetcheck, no vaccine and there was no budging on that. It was disgusting and I realised just how little they cared. "Everything has it's price" was a favourite saying. So looking back today, by very name 'pet shop' we would be under considerable fire and were still doing things a whole lot better than some of the current promoted and more socially acceptable ways of getting a pet. That may upset people but it's true, especially now in rescue. The enemy should be anyone who doesn't fulfil a duty of care no matter what they call themselves.
  16. Yep glucose was at the chemist :) it's plain glucose and the bag is bigger than you'll ever use but it's good to have in the dog-stuff collection. I've heard Cerenia is great but I fortunately haven't had to try it yet. Peptosyl is for dogs and horses, non prescription ,kind of a daggy stomach settling liquid and has kind of fallen down the list of tummy options, it's sort of like the chalky old mylanta or that pink stuff Pepto Bismol still popular in the US. But I keep some in the cupboard anyway, in the dog-stuff collection. Just in case. And I'm prepared to wear pink splatters if it's spat out. It's definitely not got the properties of Cerenia.
  17. Poor Danny . Are you ok DD? Very sorry if I'm repeating suggestions but every day is going to be different so this is some of mine...it's a helpless feeling when you try so hard with erratic progress. Maxalon injection works well and might be your best alternative to trying oral when you're already battling. If you do go in on a vomity day definitely I'd ask for subcutaneous fluids to make sure he's got a little hydration to combat the vomiting. It makes them feel a little better. The vet may even be able to show you how to do it yourself, not great if you're nervous about needles or if you have a squiggler but it's not hard to do. And I keep a little bag of glucose powder to rub on the gums to knock the edges off any sugar drop they experience from not eating or not keeping enough food down. Nobody ever drinks the lectade or wants nutrigel except for the dogs that are feeling great already. Both are always a fail here for anyone nauseous and I don't blame them really. Peptosyl is hard to get in and easy to get back up (so you may want a prescription PPI) but a great antacid. And I may have missed this but have you asked about whether they can compound any of the meds together?
  18. As do pounds. And some breeders and some rescues Sadly, yes. Probably more than some. Yep I was being politically correct You definitely are.
  19. Yes! But from what I can gather, it's the loopholes and casual usage of 16D. Firstly, proper (aka all the rules they make you agree to when applying) usage is not enforced so there's no qualms about sharing anymore. Secondly you don't actually 'need' it if a pound wants to give you animals so once you have your foot in the door with a borrowed clause then sometimes you use it, sometimes you don't. Anything under 6 months old doesn't need one. Animals under mandatory chipping age don't pose much of a problem. And anything neonate is easy. Like whole litters. eg Use a clause for the mum and get ten bonus 5wk old puppies with no chips. It's the rural pounds being emptied and animals being transported everywhere, to literally anyone incl vanishing over the border. I'm torn about posting a snapshot of an adoption purchase note I was sent. Far out some people are rotten.
  20. Just be careful, isn't set up by the company, it's been set up by someone named Olivia Kmet and judging by the email address for the paypal account, it's hers. Her intentions are probably completely honourable but be sure of who you are donating to. I would not give money to any person who claims to be taking donations. Who on earth is Olivia Kmet and where does she fit in to the scheme of things? There was someone else on Facebook who said they were taking donations but I can't remember the name. The boarding kennel owners insurance will cover the business, both property and loss of income and also their house. I would donate only to the Red Cross and/or the Salvation Army. They'll be at the coal face helping people. I'm sorry but if this is taken as not caring. GoFundMe = Dodgy, non-refundable, and untraceable. Please Beware. They run to take a %, not to protect donors from rorts. & If you're an Australian without relevant state charitable approval or a taxable business your use of crowdfunding is illegal. Paypal will freeze the money forever if they catch you. (not having a go at you viszlamomma, I hope people read here before 'donating') It's totally odd to be collecting for a business anyway. Most states require boarding kennels to have an evacuation plan as well so the whole thing is a preventable waste of life. I'm sad and angry, wishing something was done to prevent it, and could be done now for the pet owners, for the nightmare, and the poor animals. The owners who have to live forever with what has happened to their pets. I can't imagine the grief and sadness they feel. Wishing peace to them all.
  21. A+ Great site. :) Very legit. I think you might have just had a glitch.
  22. Not referring to the original group at the beginning of the thread, just the broker behind it.
  23. :) More pups going out undesexed and no paperwork? All over FB apparently. No matter how much of a show they make of bashing PR. Leopards don't change their spots eh?
  24. The pounds know and haven't done anything. The DLG knows and haven't done anything. Nothing can be done about clauses being used to pull animals for third parties. Clause 16D in the Act doesn't specify desexing, it's only mentioned in the application you make to get one. It's merely a poorly managed record keeping system. And even less can be done when the dog leaves the state. Gone. No record of anything and no way of knowing what happens to them. However, PR do desex for their own adoptions. The $50 will include vetwork. Which is more than can be said for some of the 'rescues' running the same way. We thought PR was bad.... and guess what, it got worse. edit: people are going to be very disappointed when they choose a dog that already has rescue or adoption. It sounds like you can just order a dog but it doesn't work that way. It'll just be the dogs they can't move.
