Their eyes are never "ugly", they have such soul in the way look out at the world. BTW - She's gorgeous I love the elegant look of danes, and I hope we never adopt that look in Australia. I know breeders like certain traits, and breed for them, but I love the traditional looks of all breeds. I understand breeding problems out, but not breeding them in!

I am always apologising to Whitney, she's such a big galoot always attached to me, so often bump her or step on her feet. Harry gets a profuse apology because he's usually not the one I'm treading on! I read a study a few years ago somewhere that if have your dogs around all the time and talk to them a lot, they can understand as much as a toddler. Not sure how true it is with Whitney, but Harry certainly understands a lot more that I give him credit for, and often surprises me with what he figures out from just a conversation.

I've found with our GD Whitney (who we've had for 5 years, and she's nearly 10) that her behaviour has changed. I think it's just that she feels more part of the "pack" as she has become more relaxed, she now barks a few times when someone comes to the door (she never used to) and she is much more comfortable in seeking affection from us. I do wonder what changed in her head, but I'm just glad she is more relaxed.

This! With great danes, the cost of anything to do with the vet. I can afford Whitney's vet bills, but it is something that must be considered if you happen to get a dog that needs medical care regularly. I know that I"ve paid over $25K at my vets during the life of my dogs.

I've only just seen this. Sending healing vibes to Pudding, and glad the others are home with you. Don't beat yourself up, accidents happen. Hugs to you and your family, such a stressful situation for you all.

We have a greyhound and great dane. We have a camper van, and previously have tented. We stayed at Pether Cottage in Talbingo with 3 dogs a few years ago, and dogs were allowed inside. We have camped at Moruya South Head (near the airport - but it seems to be getting rowdier now), Shallow Crossing on the Clyde River) and Talbingo Caravan Park. Our dogs are very placid and happy to have a few walks/explores, and then hang around with us lazing about :laugh:
