  1. Different dogs Lilli but tthey they filmed the Anatolian barking very aggressively in its pen. The media are doing the usual and making it as over the top as possible. I am sure Cosmolo said a heap more that would have balanced the story out a lot more but it would have ended up on the cutting room floor for nor fitting with the hysterical theme of their story. This is scary.
  2. Glad Gus came out of it OK joypod. Scary. Every time I see your siggy I always do a double scroll back to have another look at Daisy. She is so cute.
  3. There is no such thing as a safe roaming dog. It would be very interesting indeed if there were stats on motor vehicle accidents being caused by wanding dogs.
  4. Man, that makes me so wild. Effwit owner. Bet she wouldn't have been telling you to relax if her dog was killed. Glad you managed to avoid the little one. Must have given you a terrible fright.
  5. I know accidents happen but I think far too many dog escapes are due to lax and irresponsible ownership and I have had it up to the eyeballs with picking up wandering dogs. I am starting to sound like a broken record but I WISH people took containing their animals to their own property seriously and that the councils enforced this more.
  6. Yep, he is a vet. He runs the shelter with the big kill rates. Does he even like animals? Yes, the shelter that kills something like 2 out of 3 dogs, and has millions of dollars of revenue annually. But apparently, all those dogs are Pit Bulls and their crossbred counterparts, hence why they are killed. Think of the children!? You did so well Sumosmum! Yeah you did a great job Sumosmum. I can see how taking such a stance and inflaming the issue really serves the LDH very well. Handy little smoke screen.
  7. The short promos for the segment really made me expect the worst so I ended up being pleasantly surprised. Glad the dog trainer really got his say.
  8. No doubt. There is a place in this world IMO for dogs prepared to do harm to humans who simply trespass. IMO Australia is not one of those places and a dog with the temperament of the Fila needs to be carefully placed in the right homes anywhere. A correctly temperamented Fila will do more than just guard.. so when little Timmy comes uninvited over the fence looking for his tennis ball, he won't be leaving in one piece. I'd say he wont' be leaving anyway but in a coffin. Anyone who could casually say that they wish to own such a dog in an urban setting in this country needs their head read. Place that argument in a place like Johannesburg and its a whole new ball game. What ever "poodle fan". I live in one of the roughest neighborhoods in Australia, we had over 5 murders in this suburb last year and many, many other bashings, sexual assaults and attacks. Just cause you live in posh poodle ville doesn't give you a right to judge. I've only been here a year and I have already had my place broken into and my possession stolen, including my former dog (which was a labradore). You can really go stuff your opinions. Little Timmy isn't going to be coming over my 3 metre high fence, I don't have any kids as neighbors and all the neighbors are long term. Its none of your bloody business why I want a specific dog or not, and I have every right to have a guard dog that is capable of taking down an intruder for my protection (well I should have that right, if Australia wasn't such a gutless cotton wool nanny state). I have a right to protect myself whatever you may think. You may like dogs that are "like little poodles" but I like real dogs with assertive temperaments that are capable of protecting me. BTW You would make a great leader for this nanny state, seeing as you like to judge other peoples business. I am a responsible owner, entirely capable of managing my dog and restricting my dog to my property. You are a clown who likes to think people are too irresponsible to handle things and everything should be banned. Oh and "poodlefan", there are many non-banned breeds which are quite capable of mauling to death little Timmy, I have met great danes and other dogs that would maul little Timmy if he jumped the back fence, its not the breed, its how the dog is trained and socialized, its hypocritical and deluded reasoning that thinks some breeds are "bad". There is no such thing as an evil or bad breed of dog. Screw the government banning everything (especially dogs), because of the extremely small minority of dog attacks by irresponsible dog owners (you know instead of actually holding those owners heavily responsible). Ban cars, ban back yard pools, ban swimming, ban sports, lets all wrap the whole of society in cotton wool and take away all of our liberties, otherwise poodlefan might have nightmares about the bad things that could happen. OH WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN! What a discusting post. You are obviously a very angry, nasty person. Glad I dont live near you! I think you are full of it as well. Agreed, NicB. You sound like the type of person these breeds really don't need. On a forum people can say they have 3 meter fences and are the the pinnicle of responsible dog ownership but sometimes the main assertions belie the subtext.
  9. They are great, Teebs. I do remember seeing photos of them on here ages ago but couldn't remember your exact wording.
  10. Most people in the general population don't know what BSL is so it would probably get the message across more if you write "Banning a dog breed (rather than BSL), targets the wrong end of the lead". I would not have known what BSL or "BSL- Bullshit legislation" meant before I joined up here.
  11. Great pics. Puck looks like the master catcher and is so photogenic. All your dogs are lovely.
  12. I agree that the fines need to be hiked up for roaming dogs but I also think there needs to be a balance between the cost of the fine and the enforcement. I would like to see the councils really concentrate their energy into policing the roaming dog problem.
  13. Ahhhhh. So that is the reason for the higher euth rate at LDH. Good to know.

    Hamish

I am so sorry for your loss of Hamish. Run free boy.
  15. Miss BeRigierent, I remember your posts from when you lost Bella and how sudden and what a shock it all was. Don't forget that it is memories, the love, the time you shared together, the spirit of who she was and who you both were together that is the most important not the package that she came in.
  16. The dog that killed this little girl wasn't a pitbull Matthew and you know it. The overwhelming majority of individuals of breeds used for police and security work fail the grade for a range of reasons. BTW, dog bites are pretty common in dog handlers. Which part of "because some pitbulls might be dangerous doesn't mean ALL of them are" can't you grasp. Some Labradors are dangerous Matthew. Seriously scarey dogs. Doesnt mean all of them are and you're in a better position than most to know it. But take a poorly bred Labrador, fail to socialise it to recognise children as somethign other than prey, fail to teach it bite inhibition, fail to keep it in a manner that sees it form good social bonds with people, fail to train it to come back when its called and fail to exercise it regularly and you've got a recipe for a dangerous dog. The breed matters only as far as size and power go. It matter as far as bite thresholds and bite inhibitions go. It also matter as far as drives go. Crossbreed it with other large and powerful dogs and your capacity to know what its drives and inhibitions are decreases exponentially. But none of those qualities is restriced to particular breeds, nor shared by all individuals within a breed. Assuming so is the path to disaster and that's the path that BSL takes. Labradors weren't bred for fighting. Pitbulls were and are. The pitbull debate will continue I am sure, but seriously Matthew_B don't you have any other ideas. Surely you don't think banning APBT's is just going to stop dog attacks from happening. I only ever seem to see you post in topics regarding pitbulls.
  17. Certain humans have no place In society either, shall we exterminate them too! Hehe.......if only we could !!! :D I have to admit R&B , when it comes to my own dogs ,pitties do worry me. We have a fair few PBs ,staffies and crosses thereof around our area...,many of which are loose at the front of their properties.......so these days because of it I rarely take the pleasure to walk my dogs . Instead I drive them to local parks to exercise them. I also believe that once pitties are off the scene.....the next bull breed to take their place in trouble will be the American Bulldog. I am seeing more and more of this breed and none seem to have a very nice disposition. To me this is an issue that keeps getting brushed over. Among many other things I think raising fines for dogs not being secured on a persons property/ wandering and having better enforcment of this would help reduce dog attacks on people, pets and the risk they pose to motorists.
  18. It is about being factual. If it was a cross breed then it was not an APBT. Simple. So now to eradicate cross breeds? Dog attacks on a wide scale and preventing tragedies like this from happening again are not going to magically happen because APBT's get banned. Infact this little girls death would not have been prevented if this dog is infact a cross breed. We need to dig a little deeper and kind of get over the whole APBT argument for a minute and try to throw some other possible solutions into the mix. .
  19. TD, the fact the society fears something doesn't mean that fear has any basis in fact. I wish folk could see that their belief is being manipulated by politicians and the media for their own agendas and for the most part with no real reason for that fear. I get that people are worried about large powerful dogs and their potential to kill. I share that concern. I wish folk would read past the headlines and hysteria and actually educate themselves about what makes a killer dog. The research is out there, the books are out there and the fact that most people with real knowledge of dogs and dog aggression don't support BSL should be telling you that something's smelly about the BSL solution. Which part of "banning dogs breeds doesn't stop dog attacks" are people failing to grasp??? People like Mathew and others who dont have a fundamental understanding of dogs dont realise how easy it is to make a maneater. They can remove all pitbulls tomorrow and using dogs that are already here and legal you can breed another type of dog in a very short space of time. One that is more human aggressive ,larger and more dangerous. It is not that hard and not that hard to turn them nasty.Armed with that knowledge which end of the leash should you target? If a meth head can make a batch of meth under his kitchen sink with limited knowledge and basic ingredients it proves you dont need to be a chemist.Dog breeding is the same its not rocket science. Wow, sheer lunacy! If we believed you, every Police Dog Squad member and security guard dog unit would be suffering numerous injuries caused by their dogs. The fact that they don't is because the breeds selected are those which can be trained to restrain their aggressiveness and to attack only when commanded. The pitbull that killed the little girl that is the subject of this topic could not be stopped no matter what. I was under the impression the dog in question was a dog of mixed breeding. Matthew_B, you arn't per chance a HeraldSun journo, are you?
  20. IMO People in general are far too lax and complacent about containing their dog/s within their own boundary. I personally would be glad to see the fines for roaming dogs raised and it more actively enforced.
  21. Looks like a left........But you really should have the matching pair to tell for sure. :p Adorable!
  22. Sending deepest condolences and thoughts to Gary. Also thoughts to the family that cared for Banjo whilst Gary was in hospital. RIP Banjo.
  23. Thanks oakway. i would be interested to hear if anyone here has been using this.
  24. Agree with this. I have stayed in fenced and unfenced holiday accomodation and I was still hyper-vigilant in the fenced place because you never know what people may do despite it being a dog rental. I am not to know whether the landlord or neighbours are using rat baits poison or any other such poisons or if snakes go into the yard. For me personally, when I go on a holiday with the dogs it is about spending time together going for drives, big hikes and just hanging out. If I want time away from that responsibility I will go on a human only holiday. Edited to answer your question, Dyzney. I would prefer the enclosed veranda because you can leave the doors open and the dogs can go inside or on the verandah area and I find it more relaxing when I am away with them to have them in closer proximity.
