Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread
BC Crazy replied to megan_'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Del did really well raineth. Even with swf's and bug eyed cattle dogs. Well done to you both.Sorry to hear she has a sore elbow. We wish her a speedy recovery :) -
I didn't vote in the poll as I never say never. So I wouldn't say that I will never own any other breed but ...... My first dog was a wonderful little rescue Corgie X names Sooty. He was a gem & he passed away from dam tick at almost 15. Then along came our first Border Collie when I was about 10 years old. I have been "hooked" ever since. I have also had a cattle dog along the way but Border's are my heart breed.

Oh really Jemma thats interesting. My Vet was unsure actually. His hesitation made me very doubtful. I don't want them to have a tick problem but I also don't want to make them sick with a chemical OD either. And the fact that you have to put them back on a dry dog. They just wont work for us while we are away as my guys come out on the boat with us & are in & out of the water all day.

No biking airlock. Way too young for that k. Walking on lead 5 mins per month... eg . 25 mins per day for your pup, max. Your pups still growing so you have to keep concusion to his legs etc to a minium. Working him on any hard surfaces roadways, paths etc for any length of time is a no no. Free play in a safe b.yard is fine as he can choose when he is tired & rest. You can train him to do basic trick's & obedience to tire him mentally wiith no chance of causing his growing body any injury :)

Jesus....how heart breaking You cant muzzle a breed like this. Poor pooch Just horrific for all concerned. My condolences to Bulldogs owner & family. It's just wrong on so many levels. I do hope they are going to take this further. Dam sure I would. "Groomers" like this should be put out of business .

What Trick Are You Teaching Your Dog
BC Crazy replied to sheena's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Great work TSD !!! She is a wonderfully smart girl. So enthusiastic :) Sheena I would love to get my 2 started on a skateboard. Must have a look in our garage as I am sure we have an old one lying around somewhere. Your 2 sound like they are having a blast. Well done !! :) -
Don't feel guilty noishe nor blame yourself. Blame lays squarely on the shoulders of the owner of the dog that bit the poor women, no one else.
-
Yes DDarling, you want get my girl trigged to react big time rush at her on one of those small metal scooters. She wont bite the person riding it but if she was left alone I predict she would chase & snap at the scooter, nothing surer.
-
I am not a fan of tethered dogs left alone anywhere. Recipe for trouble IMHO. No way known I would EVER leave mine unsupervised anywhere. Also I worry there is a chance of someone stealing them

Great I will watch it :)

Not a silly question :) It means that you teach the last behaviour first and is a powerful way to learn. For example, you teach the delivery aspect of the retrieve first. In agility we teach the 2 on/2 off contact behaviour first - that is the last behaviour performed on the dog walk, A-frame etc. Oh thanks TSD :) I hadn't heard of this method before. Gives me another option to research & try.

Poor lady. Hope she is o.k. Would have been a really scary incident. Sounds like the owner doesn't realise how aggressive his dogs are in his absence. Hopefully he will learn from this & wont let there be a repeat episode.

Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
BC Crazy replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Exactly..... I always make 'light' of my refusal. Smile & say " Oh sorry just not right now.Stella is having a dummy spit atm". Maybe another time k. Or something like that :) -
Do You Like It When Strangers Interact With Your Dogs?
BC Crazy replied to Blackdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
I find my 2 BC's seem to by a people magnet too. I don't mind as long as the ask first & I supervise the interaction. I don't always feel like being over social but I do try 99% of the time. I sometimes say "no" if they want to pat Stella if she is having a bad day, anxiety wise. Some days she just wants to be left alone. That is fine & I always explain why I have refused any interaction. Those days are seldom. A nervous dog is not to be pushed IMHO. If she were to snap at someone I would never forgive myself. Both of my guys usually love pretty much everybody. They don't do loud people or kids though but neither do I. Clyde, geez.... I think that is pretty sad for your 8 year old to be turned away so abruptly. Without so much as an explanation. She was doing the right thing by asking. Your right next time she may feel too intimidated to ask. -
Can I ask a silly question, what do you mean by back chaining?

How cute !!! What a sweet heart. Thanks for sharing SM :)

Awww... how cute is that !!!! Loved it!!!! Thanks for sharing :)

Both my guys started day one here with a soft toy or something alike. Both love it. I start & finish the game. I sometimes play it with both dogs or with one while the other waits their turn. They also love theit Flirt Pole. They see me get that out & it's party time LOL :)

I have seen dogs with complusive behaviourial issues. I am no expert but if you have an intelligent dog or any animal & you don't keep them mentally/physically stimulated then they can find ways to occupy their time.Unfortunately this can lead to OCD 's The only thing I can suggest is redirection / reward. Exercise/ mental stimulation eg. training. On a multi ,short session daily basis.

That is truly so sad Sheena. Poor puppy He found a way to occupy his days being confined to a crate. Very tragic. Sorry you witnessed this. It would haunt me forever too. Good on you for never returning to that crappy store. I did the same at our local pet store after I witnessed them selling puppies at 4 weeks of age That was 10 + years ago & I have never set foot in the store again.
