Liver Problems, Advice Needed Pls
becks replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My just about to be 7 year old Giant Schnauzer has been going through all this over the last several months. She had a 3 week course of antibiotics and has been on the royal canin liver diet for nearly 2 months now and her symptoms are much, much better then they were. She has put on weight, is full of energy. She will be going back for more tests soon to evaluate just how much of a change has happened and where to go next with her treatment. -
Once the newness has warn off (cut edges especially will drop chunks of fluff for a little while) the vet bed gets washed with whatever needs to be washed.
-
just split his daily ration in to half (and don't panic at how little it will look to what he has been having) and feed twice daily. Mine all get fed 2x day
-
(scream) blue murder red hot n sexy yellow fever (LOL) pink n perky lavender n lace
-
mine wear cat collars from as soon as they are big enough to fit them
-
The only dog I had (a mongrel) who ran in particular areas of the garden so much she ran away the lawn, later developed epilipsey, the running was one of the warning signs for it.
-
hope all goes well. I had a similar thing a few years ago, lost 4 of the 6 in the litter, the last one dying at 3 weeks of age but he never put any weight on.

You will need to buy a separate ticket to watch the main ring/BIS events on the final night, all other evenings are free to enter as are the day time events. Get one of the maps they hand out to hang around your neck, it really helps to find your way around. Each of the stands has a number with hall number and stand number - make a note of both if you want to go back to buy or collect something, it is very easy to get turned around when you aren't used to the layout. Samoyeds are in our pastoral group (just incase you didn't know, sure you did!) which is the friday next year. Travel by car on a friday around birmingham is a major headache, so arrive early and leave late to avoid the worst. If you can get the train, the station in close by as is the airport.

Should also add, make sure the dog you are coming to see if going to crufts, also has the pet passport sorted in time and contacted the KC for an ATC number so it can be entered in shows in the UK
-
http://www.crufts.org.uk/ that is the best link to find out what is going on each day. There are plenty of demos going on each day, so you will be able to see some dancing with dogs. Don't forget the Mary Ray demo just before the BIS judging. Crufts is now in several halls in the NEC and you will walk miles, so comfortable shoes are a must. A friend who has a bench is a help, so you have somewhere to dump your shopping/coats etc. Food is very expensive at the show, although not as bad as it used to be, now there is a dedicated food hall open. Arrive early to avoid the big crush to get in, if you are driving there it will also help you find a reasonable parking spot (though you may still want to get the shuttle bus to the halls or walk for 15 mins to get in - all part of the fun to walk in alongside the exhibitors) If you are interested in watching a breed being judged, you will definityly need at least one more day just to go around the show, there is a lot to see aside from the demo rings, discover dogs area, obedience ring, agility, etc etc.

The working group we have in the UK is fairly different to the working group you have. judges over here don't have licenses. Anyone can be asked to judge so long as they are on the relevant breed judges list. These lists fall into several categories from the learner judge who has yet to get some classes right up to the judge who is passed to give tickets. It can take several years or more to get up to being able to give tickets in one breed. There are also several different tests we have to pass before we can move up thelist, along with having judged a set number of the breed at open shows and champ shows without CC's for the breed.

That sounds like a retained puppy tooth that will want removing by the vet.
-
i'd take oscar to be checked out by the vet as he's been having a few accidents. might have a slight infection or some other bladder problem brewing.
-
A lot of the competition people at my obedience club choose to get their puppies at 6 weeks as they think it makes the pup easier to start their training at that age. My pups still don't go until 8 weeks old!
-
just questions that will tell me what sort of pet the people are looking for and what type of home they will offer the pet, then it is a case of seeing how that matches up to the type of home would suit each pup, IMO.
-
If there is a puppy tooth still there, much better to go and see the vet now - it will be highly unlikely to fall out by itself now. As others have said, your dog is a cross of 2 different poodle breeds. It would be a cross if the same thing happend with my breed with also comes in 3 different breed sizes, a mini crossed with a standard would be a X bred schnauzer.

Dog Cannot Eat Fancy Brands?

I had the same thing happen when my giant was on pedigree dry foods, soon as she was back to the previous diet, she was fine again. In her case she became dog aggressive on Pedigree. -
hope you mean the saline and not the lens cleaner as that really hurts if you get it in your eye.

From the dogs point of view 'no' means whoppee I've got mums attention, then when you give chase, you have just taught the dog that there is a big game and lots of fun to be had. I suggest first off, work on your 'leave it' command - you can practise with a treat on the floor and keep covering it when pup tries to take it but once they back off tell her 'ok' and let her have it. find something your dog really likes and use that only for times you want to take 'bad' things from her. Use it to get her attention, then offer the reward (toy/treat) so she can see what she can have instead. get her to 'drop' the item and then ask her for some sits/downs/paw etc first, so she is having to work for the reward and you have distracted her from what she had. Just don't make a grab for the item as that just makes it more special to her and will go back into the old habits again.

Get pup used to you coming and going throughout the day, don't make a big deal of you going (ie no trying to tire out the pup before you head off - it just makes your absense more noticable to the pup). I find it best to restrict pup to part of the house, so you can easily come and go, then when you do return to where the pup is, don't go straight to the pup, carry on with your jobs and if pup is quiet, go and have a game or some quiet time with the pup.

a biotin supplement has been known the help giants with nails that are brittle and fall off.
-
could be immune system problem or something simple like a nail bed infection ( giant schnauzers can get something that sounds similar)

I was in the veg section of the supermarket the other day and a lady was in there 'puppy walking' I had to restrain myself from saying hello to the dog, as he was under training at the time.
