My BT always waits to be invited to play, she seems to play with labs the most as they seem to play the same. She wrestles and box's , never any running, in fact its funny when she meets a dog who wants her to chase them, they zoom around her and she just stands still waiting for them to come back into reach  My cattle on the other hand is a stalker and chaser.

Staffy Needs A Home - Sydney
juice replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Imho ,he looks nothing like a purebred staffy,i don't even think that is a proper colour, but could be wrong, he just looks like a pound mutt. I just wouldn't feed him bones, easy solution, and tell potential homes too. -
I am very breed loyal to BT'S. I grew up with pound mutts, then got a farm bred jack with my 2 mutts. I babysat a friends BT when his band went on tour and that was it I was hooked!!! I will always own one, can't imagine life without such an idiot around

I showed my kids and they thought the iggy was crazy ( they are used to a very chilled BT), I had to explain that's was IG's are like

I have noticed for years lots of pounds id -ing anything tan with a black muzzle as a mastiff x, it really irks me as BM's are not common, so the chance's of it being a x is remote.

Thanks!!!! looks like a mini bully

I wanted to see more of the bully

Deerhound Needing Rescue

Darn ,Stormy just sent me a text as she knows I like the big scruffers, I thought she meant the boy at broken hill, I keep sitting on my hands -
My biggest gripe with people leaving sick animals in the pound is that they should say so. Too many times poor rescuers take on old dogs, pay a fortune in vet bills only to have to pts very quickly. Its menatally and financially draining. If they just told the shelter what was wrong an informed descision could be made without the heartache. I have had 2 elderly foster dogs ,both turned out to be dying, I wouldn't have missed my time with either.

The upside to having dogs outside is I come and go as I please without anyone stressing over it. They are are all laying in the sun atm, one is asleep on the couch in the garage. :)

so whose the coward in this thread?

This dog is not hungry or starving, you need to just ignore him ,he already knows how to play you. It will do him no good health wise, plus he needs to know you are in charge. Walk away or ignore him, he will not die because he isn't constantly fed, but will if he gets heart problems because he is too fat. I know you feel sorry for him, but you have to toughen up, he won't hate you for it.
-
Also if you get him groomed and all the coat stripped out you can actually see how fat he is better.

AAA , are not a rescue, they charge a fortune for people to surrender their dogs ( my neighbour paid $500 each to surrender 2 greys). There are lots of threads about them. Don't make assumptions as to what happened in his past, get a good solid run for him ,or keep him away from the fence. I live with church land behind me and used to have kids hopping over the corner of my fence to get across to Macca's, hose works a treat

Its seems you don't know a lot about owning a dog atm, so perhaps Pers could link you to some good threads to read up on? He certainly can't hold on that long it would be painful with a bladder that full. Perhaps the JS people here could list a regular routine for you, exercise grooming etc. He will take time to adjust to his new home, so he may change in a few weeks when he has settled in.

Food Issues, Struvite Crystals And Allergies..
juice replied to will_454's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have a dally that forms stones, so has to be on a low purine diet , I feed raw chicken mince and VANS. My vet also suggested adding a teaspoon of bicarb. Just out of interest, if everything allergy wise cleared up on one of the foods could you go back to that? I assume crystal forming is not life threatening in female dogs as they pass them? would be the lesser of the 2 evils? I have a BT who get skin allergys, and she is on roo and VANS , and has been fine since I put her this from kibble. -
By a neighbour as I was walking my elderly BT foster Mason " why would you get one of those when you have children?". Same guy when I got my new BT girl," my god those dogs are ugly". ( I so wanted to ask if he had looked in the mirror lately). Another neighbour when her husky rushed over to say hi to my 3 onlead " say hello to that one ( cattle), but don't go near that one its jaws lock " ( BT).

My Rottie X Puppy Is Searching For A Home!
juice replied to lovemesideways's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I would change his breed id, a lot of people will be put off by it and just not look, and anyone who really wants a rotti looking dog won't be interested as he doesn't look like one. Personally I love rotts, but I don't think the id is helping him. -
I think you need to write down the stuff BJ has said and leave it out for your boyfriend to see. Cost of C section ( possibly emergency one too), cost of raising a litter of pups, food, vacs, chips etc. Then look at what byb staffys are going for. If you hit him in the pocket he may listen. That's besides the heartache of her dyeing during the birth. Is he going to be responsible for each puppy for the rest of its life if the new owners don't want them ,or does he not care if they die in the pound later, like all the other byb staffies that outnumber any breed in any pound?( they were all once cute little pups someone thought was a good idea to produce).
-
I used to do it by accident really, neighbours asked me to do theirs ,one had 3 dogs, the other 2, and then the lovely doler with 2 rottie's and a small fluff, when he had surgery and couldn't do them. Bear in mind its getting hotter, so walking during the main part of the day maybe too much for some dogs, I walked the rotts either morning or late arvo, and I did them speratley, too big and powerful together, and different exercise needs. Take into account when you are free, and getting to and from . Actually I really miss it, I may put up a poster locally and do it again, Min, how much do you pay for a walker these days?
-
I am going to make a comment, and don't take it the wrong way, but have you considered getting a behavoirist out just to see how they are going.? My concern is that it would be a shame if Friskie has to live her life afraid of Perry, and Perry would be on high alert forever too. Trying to force them together may not be the right thing, if Friskie is avoiding being near or around Perry its for good reason, pushing them together will bring stress to them both.

Please Delete - Thread Was A Waste Of Time
juice replied to Blacktown List's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I would like the other side of the story too, he may well have had pain relief. I'm not taking that rescue's word for it, after the state they adopted out a dog to a client of mine, who then attacked the resident dog needing vet care, and then were rude about it going back.
