  1. I don't consider 9 weeks too young to go to it's new home. Whatever the breed I highly doubt it's still with it's Mum much. You need to question your husband more. There is often a delay in getting papers to new owners due to back log in the various offices. Victoria in the last few years has been very bad, often taking weeks. I'm gathering the pup was bought in Queensland? I believe they can be registered straight into the new owners name and I have heard some breeders wait until all pups are sold before submitting the paperwork. Pups in Qld that are going onto the main register also need specific DNA tests. You say the breeder has two unrelated breeds? I am assuming that you are going off the DOL listings? It doesn't mean they don't actually breed different breeds, just that they are not noted on DOL. In my breed there are several breeders listed that haven't bred my breed in donkey's years but still show up in the listings. Except for certain rules you don't need permission to breed but yes litters should be registered. You could check with QLDdogs if the breeder has actually submitted any paperwork. It would help if you had copies of the parents registration. And it is possible someone, had an "oops" litter so the pups can't be registered. Breeder may be helping them out or the breeder might have had the accidental litter. But why would your husband say they were "fully papered"? You really need to pin him down. You sort of blame the breeder for not doing due diligence but you don't know how many conversations your husband and breeder actually have. Even if hubby says it was minimal can you 100% trust that is correct? And it's true that there are some breeders who wouldn't bother too much as long as they get the pups sold. You also need to decide what to do with the pup. No shame in not being able to keep her. Sounds like a popular breed so there is most likely a breed rescue that could take her if you don't want to find her a new home yourself. Or you have to decide if you can do her justice if you do keep her. Sorry you have been dumped into the middle of this.
  2. Not true in Victoria! i thought (probably incorrectly) that Queensland is the only State where this is a requirement
  3. visit the toy poodle club of Victoria website or poodle club of Victoria or nsw website as they will have what testing is a must ,what too look out for etc
  4. Yes but is it ethical? If you buy a dog from an ANKC breeder and it's on limited registration you have to ask yourself, and the breeder, why. It may have a fault that makes it not suitable for breeding but no impact on its life as a pet. Who knows what your dog may pass on if bred with another dog. And ignorance is no excuse. I'm in Victoria and the laws are quite strict.
  5. Correct. Except that the breeder only has to own the bitch (at least that is the rule in Victoria). You can agree with the owner of the sire to use him “at Stud” and for that service pay the owner a “fee for service”. There are rules and conventions about using a dog for Stud, but that’s another topic! The owner(s) of the sire and the owner(s)of the dam have all got to sign the application to register the litter which (in Australia) has to be done by the owner of the bitch and registered in their kennel prefix.
  6. JRG

    Advice please

My sympathy to you -Poor baby. I have been following this conversation carefully because the law is different in different States. I could see small claims in Victoria maintaining that you should not have sold the pup, knowing that it was “faulty” (ie not fit for purpose) and awarding the purchaser full recompense + expenses. I hope for your sake that is not the ruling in WA. You need to remember that currently animals are treated the same as inanimate objects by most of the Law. As a breeder you should never pass your problems off on to someone else.
  7. I’m looking to bring a puppy into our family. I found this breeder who has a litter due in 6 weeks. When I got in contact with him, I asked if I could come over to see the parents. He said that’s not possible because of a quarantine. (Hmm..?) He also said when the puppy is due he will send photos. He is living on a farm and is a registered breeder. This is my first time buying a pup and something doesn’t sound right here because I don’t think there’s any quarantines in place in Victoria. The main goal for me here is: 1. Confirm that the puppy is a purebred. Will a pedigree paper do? 2. Check if the parents are healthy and there won’t be any hereditary issue with the pup. Thoughts?
  8. Here in Sydney we have the Small Animal Specialist Hospital ( SASH) for pets. They have oncologists that specialise in canine cancer and they have a vaccine for Lymphoma. Perhaps if you rang SASH ( 02 9889 0289) they could recommend a cancer specialist in Victoria. Google Cancer Specialists for dogs in Melbourne and there should be something similar to SASH. If you had cancer you would be seeing a oncologist not a GP. The same applies to your dog. All the best for your dog. I have had 1 Giant with Lymphoma but that was 16 years ago. I think they have made some progress with the disease since then.
  9. There are regulations in Victoria setting out your options, I do not know whether they apply to dogs from NSW as well, but you can always ask or contact the appropriate the NSW govt department.
  10. Hi, I live in Victoria and got a puppy from NSW from a registered breeder when he was 8 weeks old. Puppy was always fussy with food and very low in energy, we though it was just because of change in home environment . Within two weeks of puppy arriving he was diagnosed with congenital portosystemic shunt. He was in ICU and recovered well but needs a surgery which can be done when he is 6months old . We are medically managing him as of now and he is super energetic and well. Breeder says she got the puppy vet checked and all , I wanted to know what are my options here . I don’t want to just let breeder walk away from this and wash of their hands. Are there any legal options I can take.
  11. What @Rebanne said. Personally I'd definitely be getting a consult with a vet eye specialist. I don't know where you are in VIc, but there's a specialist service in Melbourne that has a regular roster of regional visits (who knew Tasmania was a region of Victoria .)
  12. https://nationalpurebreddogday.com/looty-the-pilfered-pekingese/Here's a photo of 'Looty', the little Pekingese taken by British troops from the plundered Royal Palace in Peking. Looty was taken among 5 other little dogs who'd stayed near the body of a lady, thought to be an aunt in the royal family who'd committed suicide at the approach of foreign troops. After being taken back to Britain, Looty became the pet of Queen Victoria. This article gives information on what happened for the other little Pekes.
  13. In Victoria the pups have to be registered under the prefix of the person who is the registered owner at the date of birth. Which means that the bitch has to be registered in your name before it whelps if you want to use your own prefix. At least that is as I read it!
  14. Coalition For the Protection of Racehorses - Exposed 6 h · DISGRACEFUL MAIL THREATS FROM ANIMAL ACTIVISTS In a very concerning development, we have been sent the following mail sent anonymously to an equestrian horse business in Victoria. If you have also been targeted and threatened or know of others who have, please contact your local police enforcement for investigation. Please spread this message around to help identify the culprits and all the victims. The friend who sent me this thinks its only to threaten people with horses? Looks to me like it encompasses anyone with a domestic animal of any species?
  15. There's a beautiful 3 year old toy poodle that has popped up on DOL today. With my neighbours permission, I have whipped off a response even though we aren't in Victoria, as my neighbours are genuinely such a good home. So all fingers and paws are crossed here and hope they will consider my neighbours.
  16. This type of ad should be reported. I believe it is illegal to sell a dog without a microchip number and a breeder (resource) number in Victoria, the person advertising the dog AND the person who owns the site where it is advertised can be fined.
  17. It’s actually been a difficult time to be a breeder also. Sure, there might be a huge market for puppies of late but it hasn’t been easy times to produce them - in Victoria at least. Travelling to specialty breeding vets has been difficult (i do understand its ‘allowed’ but it still doesn’t make it easy) travelling to interstate dogs impossible, getting dogs on flights to stud dogs or puppies to new homes on flights impossible. It was hard to get people to visit to see puppies which means the puppies get less exposure and the breeder and buyer have less opportunity to develop a relationship too. There’s also the huge ethical dilemma about if this year is a good time to actually produce puppies considering the world has gone mad. People are in work/home situations which aren’t typical, opportunities to socialise and train puppies pretty much became non existent in Victoria. There’s going to be a huge glut of puppies who have missed a huge important part of their development because of lockdowns, plus potential separation anxiety from the working from home situation changing Thats my perspective on the other side of the argument anyway
  18. Me ! I don't know much about Eagle Heights, it's worth trying them. I would personally stay away from Melbourne due to some involved, may be the same person you were referred to. It may be worth reaching out to SA directly, or even WMA or WGSDCA. Being that there are restrictions and issues with training protection in Victoria, it's not going to be easy. ANKC obedience and tracking are completely different, IGP is very precise, and the tracking style is very different.
  19. Essentially schutzhund training in Victoria will require you to house your dog as a Dangerous Dog - muzzled, confined, signs etc. I am aware of a few trainers - can’t recall names - who have gone “underground” and are as shady as hell. So be very careful and aware of the legislative implications.
  20. Hi @Patty81 I can't really be very helpful, but I just did a quick check on the national Schutzhund Clubs page, and there are only 2 clubs in Victoria lsted there. ONe is the one you know about, and the other is called Eagle Heights Dogsports Club in Endeavour Hills. I don't know if there are any members here who do Schutzhund training. Most of us do obedience and Tracking through ANKC , and in some states the two are incompatible. Probably the best thing is to have a look at the two clubs Facebook pages, and then maybe ask if you can go (without dog probably) and have a chat with them about what they're offering. They'll probably just be getting themselves organised to resume after lockdown, so it might be good to give them a couple of weeks.
  21. Thanks guys ill see about a referral but being in regional Victoria im not sure if there is anyone outside melbourne. He can get a ball i roll with tug he gets my hands a lot lol.
  22. What else do they feed .? That isn’t a raw diet just raw meant . Feeding a raw diet is much more . Dont bother asking your vet ,very few know anything about how to feed dogs except promote the brand they sell . Asking the Great Dane club in Victoria would be a good start . Is this a registered breeder that health tests .?
  23. some 20 years ago I received a phone call from a lady to say her puppies photo was being used in a puppy for sale add. I had bred the puppy and when she sent me the site address all the photos were of puppies I had bred? it was a person in victoria and I reported it to the police. apparently she had scammed thousands from people before they caught her so its not a new thing
  24. I've always taken my pups to the local obedience groups. Any time I've tried private I've not been impressed. In Victoria there are quite a few clubs run by the GSD club. Maybe there is the same in QLD. I think it is important, wherever you go, that offers lifestyle manners first. Things like go to your mat, loose leash walking, help with life manners - no jumping up or nipping etc rather then perfect sits and heeling.
