  1. How do you know he doesn't roam when you're not there? It's the same as saying the dog doesn't bark when you aren't there, but how would you know? I don't think anyone here is being elitist, just realistic. I would say most dogs will leave their property if the opportunity is there (not LGDs) boredom and having being left to roam before will factor into it. So he's now sexually mature so any common sense has left him, much like teenage boys. Dogs will dig, jump, climb and fight just to get to an female on heat, if the neighbours dog is being walked over the road, yours won't care about cars, commands or anything you think he would usually, he will go straight for the female on heat. Neutering the dog will help, keeping him contained will be the solution. If you can't keep him confined in a yard/property, think about buying/building a decent dog run. You'll need to make sure he gets mental and physical exercise as well, lots of bones/toys etc to keep him occupied in the run or yard. A GSD is a working breed, they need stimulation and if you can't provide it, they will find their own ways (digging, destroying things, roaming, chasing cars, bikes, sheep etc depending on what is available)
  2. Oh Ned, what a lovely old boy, run free at the bridge now. Really sorry to hear Stellnme, it's so had to lose them, no matter what age. They leave lots of good memories, in time.
  3. I'd be more than happy to give a home to a little rescue dog, most who have been abused/neglected/overbred. It's called having a heart, and opening it up to take in the discarded, unwanted oldies. We don't euthanise old people/sick people, why do it with dogs who through no fault of their own have had a rough life. Don't want to buy an oldie WT? Then don't, that simple really. Rescue has always been a tough gig, for those that rescue, those that foster care, and those who try to make their life (however short or long) the best days they have left.
  4. Really sorry to hear that Teebs, big hugs for you and Kaos.
  5. Beautiful story sparky, especially the cat chasing the Borzoi's I wish there was more people with your attitude when it comes to snakes.
  6. Run free little Sarah. WM I'm so sorry to hear this, please take care of yourself.
  7. Hopefully that helps, I was going to say to put something like bubble wrap on the part he bangs on, and something on the inside of the door frame if needed, to see if that would soften the noise. Not a deterrent as such, but stops the noise. (I had to do this to a door inside, because my cat thought that pounding on the door constantly would get her fed. I Bubble wrapped bottom half of door, and smeared a dab or three of Vicks Vaporub on it. Lesson learned...kind of. Now she sits in the kitchen and meows like she's being strangled....*sigh*)
  8. Poor Molly, so glad she is on the mend and it was nothing serious. They like to keep us broke and on edge
  9. Hope it all goes well for you @Little Gifts Bit exciting and daunting all at once.
  10. Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about Dee Dee. I remember all the photos and stories of Dee Dee and Zeph, and the Christmas card with their pic on the front. She obviously led a wonderful life, and gave much joy to others being a pets as therapy dog. Run free beautiful girl. Hugs to you and Zeph.
  11. He did say "meet my loving dogs" so perhaps he was just walking one at a time? Well done to Basil and Jarrad, kick in the pants for the ungrateful parents.
  12. Amazing capture BDJ, this is so beautiful...just wow. Well done.
  13. @~Anne~ You could ask these people, even if only for suggestions https://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/10446/CatRescue-NSW Or try over at Catworld (like DOL but for cats) forums in the Cat Rescue section http://www.cat-world.com.au/forums/index.php?/forum/46-cat-forums/ @trifecta may know of places (just ignore this if you know longer do this) @*kirty* might be able to suggest someone, though she hasn't been on in a while. Good luck! Otherwise if you have no luck, surrendering to a no kill shelter would be the last option.
  14. Sorry for your loss Woof. They do leave a huge hole in your heart, but we love them so much when they are with us, we'd do it all over again. Run free at the bridge beautiful Lulu, I'm sure my Charlie will show you around, he always liked the taller ladies.
  15. I see their concern, I wouldn't house two females together either, your girl might be bulletproof in the park, walking etc, but having another female living in her house can bring trouble. They don't call them bitches for nothing. Is it specifically a female you wanted?
  16. You could try Germ,an Shepherd dog Rescue as well. They are breed specific and you can often find young dogs that would suit your lifestyle. Good luck. Here's the link, if you're in SA https://gsdrescuesa.com.au/adopt.html You could also try https://www.petrescue.com.au/groups/10692 Or https://perfectpets.com.au/profile/shelter-rescue-welfare/german-shepherd-dogs-in-need/Wynnum+West--Brisbane----QLD/773
  17. This topic was back in 2008, wonder why it's been rehashed by a new member?
  18. It's such a heartbreaking decision to make isn't it. Kobi was a beautiful boy...run free over the bridge now, there's lots of Dolers dogs to show you around. I'm sorry for your loss Gotta, they leave a big hole in your heart when they go.
  19. I'm sorry for your loss LMBD, what a beautiful tribute to a well loved companion. Crumpet will run free over the rainbow bridge now, with lots of Dolers dogs to greet her and show her around.
  20. Me either gillybob, I can't see them paying a 10K fine either, but hopefully not being able to own dogs for 10 years is of some comfort, and the community service, hope its something befitting, like picking up dog poop from parks, or scrubbing disgusting public toilets.
  21. Aww, love Thymes face, who can't love their faces. Looks like Thistle has got the hang of retrieving in the water now, she'll be swimming like a champ in no time.
  22. Love the look on her face PC, says it all.
