Showpony Posted January 8, 2013 Share Posted January 8, 2013 So sorry for your loss.........the owner of this business is just as responsible for the conduct and training of her staff.........this is not an accident it is gross neglience.......I would be going to a solicitor and try to find one that specialises in animals. Report to RSPCA. Has the owner of the business offered to pay for Pets at Peace????? I would also think about going to your local paper with this story.....it's just plain disgusting.......NO DOG should ever be left with a choke chain on any where or for any reason. How about you just drop it? This thread is here to support Cazstaff in her grief, not to show off your apparent legal prowess. PS I'm sick and tired of people that do the ol' "so and so warned me about DOL" thing when they aren't greeted with kisses and cuddles. This is not a mandatory forum. My suggestion is one whereby she does not have to confront the death of her friend over and over everyday until the court date. Vet reports, BEFORE and after the incident. Affidavits that she will have to read and approve. History of the dog, especially medical records due to the fact the dog is past the average life expectancy of the breed and be prepared to have people argue that. And the worst problem? It being drawn out. Of course she has a case, of course she will get compensation, but what I have tried to suggest to those giving her "legal" advice is whether the trauma of reliving it everyday is worth it. Yes she already is reliving that trauma, but to do it in a more concentrated way is what I am speaking of. Yes I agree, what I say may appear insensitive, however it is a way of saying that the legal road is an expensive, timely and emotional roller coaster which added onto what the OP is already going through, seems to me it would be adding to that emotional stress. It's easy to say "sue her" and end it at that. You make it sound so easy, in reality it isn't.You guys going to live with the extra stress emotionally and financially everyday? No, she is. Those saying they have went down that road, I am sure you are of a very strong character and can pursue that, is she the same?. To advise someone you don't know to do the same without providing the pro's and con's on such a suggestion isn't right I feel, and I have tried to offer a more realistic, albeit insensitive? suggestion. And was the owner aware of it, if so she is negligent. It sounds like she was on the premises at the time as she said she walked past and saw him hanging, therefore surely she knew the staff were on lunch? Sounds like shoddy care. I would go after her, no doubt. I totally agree with this and even if it was "staff" who caused this it's still the business owner's responsibility to ensure they run a safe salon and that staff are hired with appropriate experience, trained properly and not left unsupervised if they have not yet gained enough experience etc. I'd want more information about why this happened such as; Why do they use choke chains in the first place? Is leaving a dog on the table standard practice? If not why did the staff do so and think this was ok? Are staff not sufficiently trained? Is the owner so removed from the grooming floor that they don't know what's going on? I personally don't know if I'd sue as I'm not sure I'd be interested in compensation but I would fully go after them to ensure that they are either shut down or measures are put in place to ensure it can never ever happen to another dog. I don't get my dogs groomed professionally but the boarding kennel we use send them home bathed, after this I'm leaning towards telling them to forgo the bath. RIP Buddy. xxx I am horrified by this. I was just about to pick up the phone to book our little dogs in to be clipped. I hope you do go after them legally. I would, but that is just me. It won't bring the beautiful boy back, but I think it needs to be done. This is so unprofessional, with tragic results. After such a long life, with a loving owner, he should have seen his days out with you. This was taken from you and him, and it was due to poor management, hopeless staff and totally avoidable. Be kind to yourself you only wanted the best for buddy and should not beat yourself up no one could foresee this. On a practical note the RSPCA would be an avenue I would pursue and I sm also wondering if the vet would not have an obligation to report it too.
